He suspected Patrice had him read while he was out of it, but that was the advantage of the life Bowen chose—he didn’t know anything about nothing when it came to the inner workings of the agency.  The who’s who if you will, and he didn’t want to know. He also knew from his previous stay with the bitch that Patrice couldn’t crack him completely—some secrets his brain refused to divulge.  The life altering ones that is, and he was thankful for such mental fortitude.

Turning his head, he sighed, muttered “fuck” at his sunny surroundings, and began counting the rows in the wainscoting.  How long would he be here before they moved him to more suitable surroundings for a Landon captive (i.e. a cot and four concrete walls)?

The door cracked and his head swiveled.  He’d expected Patrice or one of her “handy-men” ready to lay into him, but in walked a complete shock to his system:
Xandra

A slow exhale released as he took her in.  The dark cascading hair so neatly swept into a tight pony tail.  Her tall, slim figure hugged by conservative clothing that screamed dollar signs, and that face—heart shaped with full lips, the button nose she hated, and those aquamarine eyes.

Her eyes were the first thing he’d noticed about her all those years ago.  If truth be told, he’d been entranced by those
damn
eyes.  But now, now all he saw was a doormat that made him quake with rage.  Xandra was a gutless, weak-kneed, pushover who was easily intimidated by the family who controlled her life.  He wanted no part of her except for one very vital thing; something he’d been denied his entire adult life. This reinforced his despise, and not until this moment had he ever wanted to strike a woman as he did Xandra. His voice hit guttural depths.  “Tell me where.”

“Bowen, you’re safe here,” she began flatly, ignoring his command.

              “Answer me!” he barked.

She jumped, stepping back. “Bo, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” This proved she’d heard him loud and clear the first time.  Her hand began to stroke her ponytail in nervous abandon, straightening the strands to perfection.  She had to be a perfect
fucking
Landon all thirty-eight years of her perfect
fucking
life.

Hate her
!

Bowen jerked on the chains that held his arms. If he could just get one wrapped around her perfectly slender neck.  “You know why I’m back,” he gritted.  Yes, he volunteered himself to save his cousin; there was no way he would have allowed her to subject herself to the Landons, but he also had every intention of saving someone else. “My child, Xan!

Where is the baby you denied me twenty years ago?”

              Xandra’s eyes widened, inhaling deeply.

She pulled a needle from her back pocket and approached his side causing him to curse and jerk against the restraints.

She was going to drug him again.

"Calm down," she ordered, slightly slurred as she placed the cap end of the needle in her mouth and yanked.

She then grabbed a firm hold of his forearm and drove the needle in.

"You fucking bitch," he snarled.

This caused her to wince as she pulled the needle free.

Quickly, she stepped back as though she feared he'd break the restraints.

Through his pants he declared once more, "Where?

Where is my child?"

"I don't know what—"

He wasn’t about to tolerate her lies. “I want my child, you gutless bitch, and you will help me, or mark my word, I will make every breath you take from now until your dying day pure, uninhibited agony.

On shaky feet, she drew closer, but there was no denying the venom in her eyes. "You won't take my daughter.

Ever!"

But as the words bit forth, she pulled a tiny folded piece of paper from her pocket, opened it, and thrust it in front of his eyes, all the while uttering her oaths of retaliation.

Completely lost and confused, Bowen read the paper:

Help me.

Patrice has her hooks in our daughter
.

She's turned her
.

She then jerked the paper away and stuffed it back into her pocket.

There was a moment of tense silence.

"Now," she said calmly as if coming down from her ire. "If you play nice and cooperate, your stay will be much more comfortable."

She then spun around and straight out the door, leaving Bowen stupefied.

Other than pain, he honestly didn't know what to expect upon his return to Patrice, but not in a million—
scratch that
—gazillion years did he expect what just took place.

"Fuck!" he bellowed into the cheery space.

His outrage now doubled knowing Patrice had influenced and was probably using his own flesh and blood for her vile acts against mankind.

And Xandra?

Well that bitch might not know it, but she signed her own death warrant by allowing such a reprehensible thing to happen.

Sunshine yellow may have filled the space around him, but his suddenly heavy eyes saw red.

Blood red and promises of retribution took him under.
