“Let’s be quick,” he says and hands me Tank’s helmet. “You slam this against the concrete wall. We’ll get him laid out.”

So easy. And only possible because Jack snapped the enforcer’s neck instead of shooting him. But then, he’d probably figured all this out ahead of time. He’d known Creek might not be coming alone.

All the assholes who keep their distance are right about one thing: Jack
is
scary. But what they don’t get is that the only reason to be afraid is if you come after him—or the Riders.

I finish with the helmet. Creek takes it and crouches, strapping it onto the man’s head.

“You got this from here?” Jack asks.

“Yeah.”

We head back to the truck and he pulls off his ruined jacket. Neither of us is wearing a kutte. We left them back at his garage. No need to fuck this up by having someone say they saw a pair of Riders out here around time Tank ran into a wall.

I drive. The light from Jack’s phone throws harsh shadows over his face as he texts. Probably sending a message to Saxon.

“Want me to drop you off at the ranch?” I ask. He won’t send details over the phone, so that means he’ll need a face-to-face with the prez.

“At my place. I’ll take my bike out there.” He glances at his phone as a reply comes in and he pushes it into his pocket. “Why’d you come?”

To his apartment tonight. My knuckles are white on the steering wheel. I watch the road, not glancing his way. “To make another bet.”

His voice suddenly roughens. “What bet?”

“I made reservations at the Hilton in Bend for Sunday night. I’m going to be at the bar. I bet you won’t sit next to me.”

“If I win?”

“Thirty nights with me.” It’s a bet I don’t want to win. And if Jack wins, he doesn’t have to ask—and neither do I.

Not this time.

He’s quiet. I know he’s watching me but I don’t glance over as we roll through town and pull into the lot of his shop. He opens one of the bay doors and I pull in.

When I get out, I toss him the keys and gesture to the bed of the truck, where the body had been. “You’re going to take care of the back before you go or do you need me to?”

“I’ll clean it up,” he says.

And he’s so quick, coming for me, pushing me back against the garage wall, his fingers at my belt. God. Need bites into me, sharp and painful. I grip his shirt and tear it over his head. Fuck, his chest. Greedily my hands slide over hard muscle, warm skin.

He shoves my jeans down. I’m already wet. So wet. I groan when his fingers slide into me, my hands clutching at his shoulders. His mouth finds mine and he lifts me, shoving my back higher against the wall. His thick cock pushes deep in a single hard stroke.

I cry out, my body stiffening at the sudden invasion, but it’s good. So good. And it’s a fight, like I knew it would be. My fists clench in his hair and I hold his dark gaze and just fucking dare him to look away, to shutter his eyes, to hide again, but he can’t, he doesn’t, and he’s mine as he fucks me and fucks me and fucks me. He’s mine as I come, crying his name against his lips and my back against the wall. He’s mine, my pussy holding him deep as his fingers dig into my hips and he shudders against me.

I hold him tight as we catch our breath, his face buried in my neck, my legs wrapped around him. Quietly I say, “You should come over to my place after you’re done at the ranch.”

Sudden tension transforms his muscles to steel. Gruffly he says, “Are you asking?”

“No. Just saying.”

His chest expands on a ragged breath before he nods, his rough jaw scratching my neck. “I’ll be late.”

I don’t care. “If I’m asleep, you can just break in again.”

It’s almost dawn before I feel him against me. I begin to turn, but his arms wrap around me and pull my back against his chest. In my ear is a low, “Just sleep, Lily.”

I snuggle closer, loving every inch of his warm skin and hard muscle against me. “Okay.”

“I have to leave early.” His hand slides through my hair. “I’ll be gone for a few days.”

“Where?”

“Vegas. I want to get an eye on how the Hangmen operate, see who’s calling the shots in the mother chapter. I want to know what to expect. I’ll be back by Sunday.”

“I bet you won’t.”

His lips press to the back of my neck. “Nothing could stop me. I’ll have my thirty nights.”

He’ll have a lot more than that. By the time the month is over, he’ll need me as much as I need him. He’ll ask for more.

I’m betting my heart on it.

Chapter Nine

The hotel bar is busy. It’s summer, so some families sit in the dining area, but this late it’s mostly just business travelers and couples left. This time of night, sitting alone, I’d usually have had about five or six offers by now. There haven’t been any here. I’ve seen a few men glance at my face and it seemed like they were going to make a move, then their gazes fell to my kutte and they hesitated. If they took a step closer, I gave them a look that scared them away.

I know Jack’s here when the guy checking me out is scared away before I even bother with the look. I don’t glance over until I feel him slide into the barstool next to me. He sets his helmet on the bar. His saddlebags are over his shoulder.

My heart is in my throat.

He orders a beer and I look him over. His knuckles are raw. There’s a cut on his cheekbone and his lower lip is split. So he’s been fighting. But I know Jack. His opponent wouldn’t have touched him if Jack hadn’t allowed it. So he went down, got info, but getting that info meant pretending he was someone else. Maybe stroking some asshole’s ego by taking a beating.

Losing, but still winning. That might be our theme this weekend.

He takes a swig of his drink, looking straight ahead. “No red dress?”

“Did you want the red dress?”

“Not here. I like you like this. It’s who you are.”

“Yeah, it is.” A girl in a kutte and with her heart about to pound through her chest.“I might catch some shit from the brothers for this.”

His shoulders tense. “No.”

“Yes. But when I do, just have my back.
Don’t
come to my defense. Don’t be my shield. All right?”

He struggles with it. But finally he nods.

Good. I slide off my barstool, taking my drink with me. “Room 319.”

His helmet in hand, he follows me to the elevator. My hands shake as I pull the keycard from my back pocket and unlock the door. I don’t get more than a step inside before he sweeps me up against his chest.

I cling to him, my arms tightening around his neck. He carries me across the room and lays me on the bed before coming down over me, settling between my thighs. His cock is hard and thick; his big hands are gentle as he cups my face.

Finally, his gaze meets mine. His dark eyes are flat, but not empty. Heat burns within.

“I win,” he says softly and his mouth captures my lips in a searing kiss.

So I win, too.
