“It feels good to stretch the lungs sometimes,” he said between breaths. “But it’s starting to get cold.”

Remembering that Graham didn’t have thick fur like him, Rudy rushed to his side to shield the man’s body with his own. Graham laughed and patted Rudy on the back in supplication. As much as he wanted to frolic and play with Graham by his side, he didn’t want him to get sick, so he stepped away and reached deep inside him. He connected with his other body and pulled it up.

When he was fully human again, he stretched, missing the warmth of his fur. Graham was next to him in an instant, Rudy’s clothes in his hands. His expression was etched with a shred of disbelief, but his energy was pure and positive.

“Jesus, hurry up. I can feel the frostbite nipping at your toes,” Graham said.

Beaming, Rudy asked, “You sure it’s not your toes?”

“Exactly. It’s freezing and we need to get back.”

When Rudy was dressed and his feet were booted, he asked carefully, “Maybe you will let me warm you up?”

Stilling, Graham slid his eyes to Rudy. “You mean—yeah, okay. That sounds really nice right now, but I thought we might have had pushed it too far last night? Some of those noises you made didn’t exactly sound human,” he said, chuckling awkwardly. “I’m in, though. Jesus, I really want you. Unless… you have completely benign intentions…”

Graham stumbling over his words was damned adorable and Rudy marched up to him. He pulled him close, letting his heat sink into the man then pressed a chase kiss on his lips. “I want you, Graham. Really, really badly. If I can handle you next to me while caribou, then I can handle you inside me.”

Making a sound of supreme need, Graham’s hands dropped to Rudy’s ass. “I’d like that.”

Chapter Eight

They crashed through the door of Graham’s apartment, their lips locked and their tongues tangled. Rudy seemed overcome with desperation and Graham had to admit to himself, he was looking forward to sinking into the man. Scarves, gloves and hats littered the floor like a breadcrumb trail to Graham’s bedroom. The remainder of their clothes pooled in the center of the room, and seeing Rudy naked in all his glory, sent the blood rushing to Graham’s groin.

Rudy’s eyes lowered as they slowly took in Graham’s bare body. His voice was hardly more than a whisper. “You don’t know how long I’ve waited for this. How many nights I fantasized about the day we might make love. I never thought it would come, and now here you are.”

“And here I am,” Graham croaked, equally as surprised. “So what do you suppose we do about it?”

A lecherous grin tugged at Rudy’s lips and he closed the distance between them. The moment their naked forms crashed, Graham saw stars. He moaned into Rudy’s mouth as they kissed, their tongues working furiously. All he tasted was cool mint and all he could feel was a soothing heat. Their bodies fit perfectly against each other, Rudy’s smooth, mostly hairless skin sliding against Graham like silk. Playfully, he pushed his lover onto the bed and Rudy giggled as he bounced. Graham took a second to run his eyes all over the man he had dreamed about for years. Rudy parted a leg, throwing him an inviting look.

Holy shit. This is actually happening.
He was sure he was lost in a vivid dream, the sight of Rudy splayed on his bed blowing Graham’s mind. Swallowing the last lingering disbelief, he covered the man’s body with his own, Rudy’s legs going around Graham’s hips. The moment their dicks met, they groaned in unison and he held his lover close, determined to savor this moment. Rudy spanned his back with scorching palms as Graham kissed him tenderly.

“Are you nervous, Graham?” Rudy whispered, his eyes dark in the low light of the room.

Chuckling, Graham ran a hand through the man’s hair. “I should be, but… no. I mean, on some level all this doesn’t feel completely real. But I want this more than anything.”

Purring, Rudy ran his nose along Graham’s neck. “So do I.”

Dropping down, Graham planted kisses along Rudy’s body, and grazed his nipples with his teeth. The man arched against him, hissing. Graham moved further south, sucking, kissing and leaving little marks along Rudy’s body. He nipped at the sensitive skin of Rudy’s thigh, relishing the little gasps as he got closer to the man’s thick cock that was already weeping with need. His eyes holding Rudy’s, Graham swallowed his dick down and didn’t stop until the blunt glans hit the back of his throat. Rudy arched up into him and made the hottest sound Graham had ever heard. Fingers dug into Graham’s hair and he regarded the man.

“Too excited… won’t last if you do that,” Rudy whispered.

Feeling like a billion bucks, Graham returned to Rudy’s lips and spent a long while kissing him. Their limbs tangled and their bodies slid against each other like silk until they were huffing and puffing.

“Turn around,” Graham managed, his throat scorched.

Rudy obeyed, and Graham settled on his side then pulled his lover close. He spanned every inch of skin, from Rudy’s neck, down to his hip. Planting a kiss on the man’s shoulder, he ran his fingers up along the man’s crack, eliciting a very enthusiastic response. He found the puckered entrance and circled it.

“I thought about this a lot. What it would feel like to sink deep inside you, the way your ass would squeeze my dick,” Graham murmured.

“Fuck,” Rudy hissed. “Don’t stop with your trucker talk. Me like.”

Laughing, Graham dragged his tongue along the little mark he’d left on the man’s shoulder. “I bet you’re going to be so tight. And the sound of our bodies slapping together as I pound you? We’re going to wake up the town.”

Rudy’s fingers dug onto Graham’s hip, his harsh curse making Graham grin like a mother fucker. At least until he realized he didn’t have the necessary supplies to do what Rudy wanted.

“Shit. Did anyone think to bring lube?” Graham asked.

Rudy turned to gape at him, his expression falling.

“Hold that thought.” Graham shot out of bed, forced his legs into his jeans then threw his coat around his naked torso. By the time he got down stairs, he realized he forgot his shoes, but he just didn’t care. Gasping and groaning as his bare feet sank into the snow, he rushed to his truck. He searched through the glove box and located some condoms and a tube of lube.

“Thank you, Jesus,” he said then raced back into the building and to his apartment.

On numb feet, he returned to the bedroom and held up the lube, his grin victorious. Rudy held his arms open and Graham quickly shed his clothes then join his man in bed. Rudy’s warmth sunk into him and chased the chill away. Rudy stole a deep, thorough kiss then turned his back to Graham.

Graham squirted a healthy dose of lubrication on his fingers, then plundered Rudy’s ass, the man’s gasps filling the room. He took his time, teasing and taunting, circling and stroking until Rudy was begging for more. Graham sheathed himself then pressed his dick up against his lover’s entrance. Gently, he pushed forward, Rudy letting him know what he needed by urging Graham’s hips forward. He slipped in and they gasped in unison. Giving the man a minute to adjust, he slowly retreated then dove back in.

“Great Spirit,” Rudy croaked. “Don’t’ stop. Whatever you do, don’t stop.”

“Never,” Graham whispered against his lover’s ear. He’d never before been so bold, or vocal with his intentions, but this was Rudy and he felt as if he could be open about anything. “By the time I’m done with you, you’ll be a puddle under the summer sun.”

His response came out in a garbled bark as Graham slammed into him. As he increased the pace and thrusting power, Rudy became more demanding until he was growling like a wild animal. The man suddenly burst into action. Gripping the base of Graham’s cock, he freed himself then pushed Graham onto his back. Straddling him, Rudy sat down on his cock. They cursed in unison as the man’s tight hole strangled Graham’s dick. Rudy was ravenous, his fingers digging into Graham’s shoulders as he rocked against him.

The orgasm surged quickly and Graham gripped the man’s hips in an effort to slow him down, but the guy seemed not to notice. Rasping his name, Graham tensed as the pleasure rose up to consume him and he gave himself over as the orgasm rocked his body. His vision blurred and his muscles quaked as he emptied his load into the tight confines of his lover’s ass. He came back down slowly, and when he opened his eyes, Rudy was looking down on him with a satisfied smirk.

“Holy shit,” Graham muttered. “Why didn’t we do this sooner?”

Chuckling, Rudy wrapped his fingers around his cock then started jerking off fast. Graham watched the way his head tipped back and the muscles of his neck tightened. Rudy sucked in a breath before Graham was splattered with the man’s spunk—Rudy’s balls seemed hooked up to a spray hose as he came wildly. It was a gorgeous sight to witness his lover sitting on his dick while he climaxed and Graham committed the whole thing to memory. If they were lucky, they would share many moments like this. That thought brought on all the warm and fuzzies and Graham embraced them, glad to be able to share his feelings with the man he loved.

Rudy collapsed on the bed, his chest pumping hard with breath. Graham scooped him close, their slick bodies sliding against one another. Limbs tangled and fingers went through hair as they snuggled—Rudy had always loved the part that came after hot sex and cuddling with Graham made it all the sweeter. As they relaxed, a weariness spread throughout Rudy, and it was absolutely glorious.

“Oh yeah,” Graham breathed out. “That was everything that I expected and more. You’ve been a naughty boy, haven’t you?”

Chuckling, Rudy ran his palm up and down the man’s stomach, spreading the evidence of their love-making. “I’ve had a little practice, yes. What about you? I’m sure you’ve gotten your fair share of roadside blow jobs from hitchhikers.”

“There were a few, but not as many as you think.” After a long second, Graham shifted so he could look Rudy in the eye. “None of that compares to being with you though.”

Gazing into Graham’s gorgeous blue eyes, Rudy nodded. He had waited years before finally giving up his virginity and if he had known this day was a certainty he would have waited. But loneliness was a potent thing and Rudy had settled for Mr. Right Now.
The only thing that matters is that we are together.

“I would have to agree. I just wish we didn’t wait this long, but that wasn’t your fault.” Rudy skimmed his thumb across the man’s jaw liking the way it moved so subtly.

Graham’s gaze grew distant and he let out a breath. His eyes shimmered and he took a second to lick his lips as if he were trying to figure out what to say. “Tell me more about you, Rudy. Why did you leave?”

Rudy knew this time would come and he dreaded it, but he accepted it was a source of pain for both of them, and needed to be addressed. Steeling himself, he pushed away the animal instinct to flee from tight situations. “I had wanted to tell you the truth for a very long time, but I could never figure out how to explain why I had to leave. Even now, with you knowing what I am it is hard to find the words. We mate for life and an intense bond forms. I think on some level I bonded with you as a kid. We were always friends and no matter what happens between us I want us to stay that way, but for shifters even friendships run deep. Of course, being attracted to you didn’t help. With my first shift rapidly approaching, my feelings toward you excited the maturing instinct inside. Grandfather was afraid I would lose control around you so he sent me away to live with Grandmother’s family until I got a handle on my nature. There was a short time when I considered going
unchosen
if it meant I didn’t have to go away, but Grandfather reminded me that becoming
unchosen
had certain responsibilities that would take me away from here and my family.”

The man’s eyes dilated as if he were reliving the day Rudy had left without so much as a word. His brows came down and his lips parted as if he wanted to say something but nothing came out.

“I’m sorry, Graham. Those times are hectic for us and I agreed to go away if only to keep you safe. My biggest fear was hurting you unintentionally. While living in Canada, I focused all my time into learning to control my nature so that I could get back to you as soon as possible. By the time I got back, you had found a new circle of friends to spend your time with and I was afraid you were angry with me.”

“I don’t think angry is the right word. More like… Hurt. You didn’t even say goodbye. One day you were here, the next gone. I went by your house and your grandfather opened the door to tell me you had gone to live with your grandmother for a while. In my mind I expected to see you in a few weeks, but those weeks turned into months, and the months became years.”

“I know, and I hate that I did that to you. But I was afraid if I told you I was leaving, and you looked at me with heartbroken eyes, I’d never be able to leave.” Rudy buried his face in the crook of his lover’s neck and he was glad the man didn’t push him away. Graham had every right to be hurt and angry. When Graham held him even closer, Rudy sighed and kept on talking. “I hope one day you can forgive me for leaving like that. I just want you know that I had your best interests at heart when I walked away without a word.”

A broad palm spanned Rudy’s back and the gentle caresses loosened him further. Graham’s voice was clear as he spoke. “Now that I understand why you did what you did, I hold no grudge. And there is nothing to forgive. I can’t say I wouldn’t have done the same thing if I were in your position. All that matters is that we are here now.”

Graham’s words were like a sweet bird song to Rudy’s ears. It was everything he had hoped for, and now that they had gotten past that Rudy could concentrate on the other issue at hand.
Should I bring it up now?
He could safely say their future was far more important and impacting than him leaving.

“In any case, I can’t complain where life has led us. Sure, we’ve had some bumps along the way but I think they’ve made us stronger. If you would have told me the truth about you as soon as you came back I don’t think I would have believed you, nor would I have been passed that hurt. I guess we both needed to mature.”

“I’m so happy the way things have turned out, Graham. And I don’t think I would have been able to tell you the truth about me had you not run me over.” Graham smiled faintly and Rudy leaned in to kiss his lover. “I promise to make it up to you.”

Arcing a brow, Graham grinned slantedly, clearly liking that idea. Rudy closed his eyes and focused on the way the man’s body felt against his own, every touch making him shudder. These were the times he longed for—simple moments of shared pleasure and meaningful words exchanged.

“I have a question. But I’m not sure if I really want to know just yet,” Graham started, his body language betraying his apprehension. “I think it’s important that we’re open and honest about everything so I’m just going to go ahead and ask—how does someone become like you?”

Rudy suspected the man had wanted to ask about that very thing. He had hoped he would have had a little more time, but now that it was out in the open, a jolt of fear went through him. What if Graham wasn’t ready for that kind of truth? If Rudy confessed he wanted to make a life-mate out of Graham, would he turn away? “There is no easy way to answer that. But if the recipient wishes to receive the gift, he must ingest the
light-water
. It will enter his system and alter his DNA. He will become stronger and his senses will heighten. Then he must choose his form. But it must be done carefully because there is no going back.”
