Karru ran his hands through her hair, cupping her jaw and encouraging her to lift her eyes and meet his stare. “My sweet one. So much pleasure. Let me do the same.” She carefully palmed the underside of his length and gently stroked her teeth over his sensitive skin, drawing a hiss from his lips. “Please.”

He growled and pulled away from her only to chase her to the surface of the bed. He nudged and lifted her until she was centered on the large surface and he was atop her. Yes, this was what she wanted. What she craved.

“My sweet one,” he mumbled against her skin, his lips raining kisses on her body as he explored her. He stroked her, petted her, kissed her… Her shoulder, her neck, her breasts; his mouth was everywhere. He snaked his way down her body. “Must taste you.”

She was onboard with that plan.

“Karru, please.”

He grinned and nibbled her hip. “As my Jhoari demands.”

She demanded. Demanded a lot.

He gave her everything she’d ever dreamed of. He tongued her inner thigh, following the curve to her center. There he lapped at the seam of her lower lips, tasting and teasing with the careful laps. She whimpered when he flicked the top of her slit and whined when he delved and licked her inner-most flesh. He circled the source of her pleasure, the bundle of nerves so like a Terran clit, but just different enough to give Terran males difficulty when pleasuring her.

Karru did not have any such problems. No, he went after her, giving her bliss between one breath and the next as if he was born to drive her to ecstasy. He moaned against her sensitive flesh, adding the vibrations to her growing joy.

He slipped two fingers inside her, stretching her as he had not so long ago. “Yes, right there…” He pushed deeper and rubbed against her inner walls. “Yes,” she hissed. “Please.”

He lifted his head. “So beautiful. So delicious, my sweet one. My forever.”

His words shoved her closer to release, encouraging her to fly with the ecstasy, and she could do nothing but comply. Her heat tightened and squeezed his penetration, milking him and begging to be filled with his length.

The trembles of release overtook her, stealing her ability to control her limbs. Her toes curled, muscles clenching and she cried out for him. His name was on her lips, the bubble of pleasure building in her chest and then it finally popped, robbing the breath from her chest with a final yell.

With her shout of completion came other sounds, ones she was not familiar with. Specifically the pounding, rhythmic thump of feet on her new flooring. The rapid rumble didn’t reveal itself until the owner of those feet broke down her bedroom door. There was no gentle whoosh of panels parting, but an echoing blast of phasers as the metal was destroyed. Then, of course, four men piled into the room, destroying every hint of intimacy she’d shared with Karru.

He immediately rolled from the bed and suddenly his swords filled his hands. The rapid whip of words flew through the air and she hardly caught the meaning of any of them. That didn’t keep them from vaulting them at each other though.

One of the men cut her a glance, his gaze lingering on her and she realized she was nude and sprawled out on the bed. She reached for the discarded blanket and immediately covered herself. Karru might not care about showing his goods to his long-time guards, but she did.

When his gaze didn’t immediately leave her, she snapped at him. “What are you looking at, asshole?”

That effectively silenced the argument and everyone focused on the now red-faced guard. Well, it ended
that
argument. Now a new one blossomed and it ended with the peeping Tom kneeling in the middle of the room, head bowed and hands at his side.

More shouts, more growls as what seemed to be the lead male Rasu, she recognized him now, argued with Karru and gestured toward her. Anger suffused Rasu’s features as he looked her over with a cursory glance and then launched into more shouting. It wasn’t a look of appreciation but a simple catalog of her appearance.

Crap. Maybe pushing Karru despite his mention of Palia rules was a really bad idea.

“Karru?” The argument continued, the men ignoring her. She still didn’t understand what was going on, still didn’t grasp the intricacies of Palia tradition and behavior, but she refused to be ignored. She grabbed more of the blanket and curled it around her, making sure she was fully covered before she rose to her full height. The men still towered over her, but she refused to be cowed by their extra height and bulk. “Karru,” she snarled and that finally got everyone’s attention. “What’s going on?”

Rasu glared and shot off another spatter of words.

Admittedly, her next actions and words were really bitchy, but after everything she’d been through… She figured they’d forgive her. Or at least, she hoped so.

“It’s rude to speak another language in front of someone.” She stepped forward, pretending she wasn’t dressed in nothing more than a blanket and was fully clothed. “Whatever you have to say, you can say it in federation common so the rest of the class can understand you. I’m assuming that guy,” she pointed to the kneeling man. “Is in trouble for staring at me and I can’t exactly blame him. I’m not being cocky, but I think I look pretty good. Besides, if I’m presented with some hot naked guy, I’m going to stare. You can’t blame a man for doing something instinctual.”

That had her cut off by a glaring Karru. “You will not stare at other men.”

And there were the gasps.

She placed her hand on his chest and gently stroked him. “Of course not. I don’t want other men, it was an example.” His length twitched and hardened against her and she rolled her eyes. “Really, we’re in the middle of an argument with the whole neighborhood in here. You want me now?”

“Always.” It didn’t look like he was going to apologize for it either.

“Men,” she grumbled. “Let’s get back on task.” She peeked around Karru. “Why did you guys break down my door and why does this guy look like he’s about to meet his death?”

The male flicked his attention to Karru then to her and back to Karru. “Jhoari…”

“Do not look to me. Your Jhoari asked you a question.”

“I have never…” nervous tension filled the stranger.

“You shall now,” Karru immediately countered.

The guard focused on her and carefully replied in federation common. “We believed the Jhoari in danger and sought to protect. He looked upon Jhoari’s naked form and shall be punished.”

“We already addressed the ‘looking at me naked’ issue. It’s dumb. As for the other, you thought he was in danger?” She gestured at Karru. “From
me
?”

The guard shook his head. “No, we believed
you
to be in danger. You are the Jhoari. He is the Jhoari…” he frowned and quieted. “He is the Jhoari-consort.”

Consort?
Consort?

Only people with a certain rank had
consorts
.

Rebecca slowly panned her attention to Karru and she ignored his groan. “Perhaps, it is time
someone
told me exactly what the title Jhoari means.”

Karru reddened and she wondered if he’d actually answer her question. The tics floated by and he finally opened his mouth to reply. “The Terran word for Jhoari is ruler. I was the ruler, overlord, of Palia as elected by the people. It is typically a title passed from parent to child.”

She swallowed hard, forcing herself to voice the question that lingered on the tip of her tongue. “And now you’re the consort so that makes me…”

“The empress.”
