I had started a little garden, to see if anything would grow. I saved most of the seed packets so that when it was spring or summer I could try again. But for now I crossed my fingers that the potatoes would grow. There was a sprout from one of the tomato seeds, but I still didn’t know if my plants would thrive. Since the seasons were all messed up I didn’t know the right time to plant anything, not that I would have anyway. There were some brief instructions printed on the packet on how and when to plant, so I did the best I could with what I had available to me.

Any time I left the little cabin I drew detailed maps. I’d start at my house and walk out in all directions documenting what I’d find, hoping that one of these times I’d come upon the HOME base. So far I haven’t. I mapped out several gas stations and would take home gas, food and water. My supplies were generous and even though it was getting colder I didn’t worry too much about not having enough. I used a semi-sharp ax to stock up on wood for my fireplace. I started piles inside and in the basement and when those were full I made stacks outside. If any of the others had seen what I’d done, I knew they’d be as proud of me as I was of myself. I was impressed with how prepared I was, but after having done this for as long as we had, it shouldn’t be that surprising. Although doing it alone is much more difficult and lonely.

There were several things that kept me going. But one of the big ones that was keeping me alive was the thought of seeing everyone again. I’d left signs everywhere for them — on trees, rest stops, gas stations, little shops, light poles, anything I could find to leave my little messages on. The only thing I hadn’t been able to leave was directions on how to find me, that would just put me in immense danger. I felt I was already putting myself in danger leaving the notes all in this general area, but I needed to. Once they traveled further and stopped seeing the notes, they’d come back and check the area thoroughly. At least that’s what I hoped.

As for now, I had a feeling they were still inside HOME. They probably couldn’t leave, I imagined that they weren’t really free to come and go as they pleased. I hoped they’d found Ryan or at least found out what happened to him. And if Ryan was alive, that they were all together again, working on a plan to get out. I didn’t even let myself consider the possibility they had given up on me, or that they wouldn’t be able to find me. Instead, I knew it was as simple as they couldn’t come, not yet, but they would as soon as they could.

So for now I had to figure out my own plan to get back together with them. They were my friends, the only people I trusted. They were my family, and all I had left in this world. Not getting back to them was just not an option.

I would find it.

I would get in.

I would find them.

Thank you for reading my novel.

If you liked this story, there are two things you can do to help. The first is to spread the word! Tell family and friends, share it on Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads and similar sites, or buy it as a gift for someone you think might enjoy it.

The second thing you can do to help, is to leave a review.

Reviews are important, especially to new writers, like me, because it’s hard to get noticed among all the other great authors. There are so many writers trying to get noticed, and great reviews help new writers stand out from the crowd.

Even if you don’t like leaving reviews or don’t have time, I’m still extremely happy and excited you read my book. That means the world to me and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

But if you do have a few minutes, leaving a review will help me build an audience, get noticed, and could make a huge impact on my writing career. It doesn’t need to be a long review, a short honest review is just as helpful.

Again, a huge thank you for reading my novel.
