Excerpt

She has no idea where she is.  There is no guarantee that she can find any civilization.  Worse, she may fall into the hands of that vicious reptilian ‘civilization’.   Their sharp teeth told her that she’s only a piece of fresh meat when being caught.

Oh, well, that won’t make a difference, right?
Die of coldness and hunger, or die of… being lunch.

It’s weird that the word
lunch
makes her feel so hungry.
I could probably eat an alien should I catch one at the moment.
She’s so amused by her unusual thought.
Maybe they’ll go down well with a bit of Teriyaki sauce?
She’s never been a big Japanese sushi fan, but anything
food
is so tempting now.
Anyway,
Zaak told her once that lizards
do
taste like chicken.

She rolls to the door, pushing hard.  The door is now stuck to the ground.   Damnit, it won’t move.

Bonita looks at the crack on the top.  It’s too small to crawl through.
Maybe losing thirty five pounds will get me through?  Yeah, right, Bonita, you don’t have to do anything now to lose that much—or more.
She swallows hard to subdue the hunger.  There is no saliva at all.

She pushes the door again.   No luck.  She hits the door with her shoulder.  Still no luck.

Damnit! I’m going to die on this stupid, ‘most wonderful and absolutely fantastic planet you will have to see, Bonita’.
She’s not blaming Zaak at all.  In fact, she feel so good because Zaak is dying somewhere on the same planet too, right?

We’re together.  Oh, wow, this is absolutely wonderful.

Her mind drifts into her fantasy world again…

“Hello…” The voice is so remote.

“Mom?” Bonita is so pleased to see Mom.

“Anybody there, hello?”

“Mom… it’s me, Bonita.”  She reaches to Mom for a hug but Mom steps away.   “Mom?”

“Hello, are you alive?”

“What?  Mom, I
am
alive.  Yes.  See, I’m talking.  Mom... See…”  Bonita’s vision blurs.  She tries to open her eyes wider.

Now she can see… Hah?  A dinosaur?  Gosh!  A dinosaur is staring at her from the crack!

She closes her eyes right away.
I don’t want to be the lunch.  No, I swear I don’t.

Moments later, she opens her eyes slowly.  Good, the dinosaur is no longer there.
I’m safe now.

Her heart drops while a happy smile crawling onto her tiring face.
Goddamnit, this is my only opportunity to survive!

She no longer feels the pain and numbness; nor is she afraid of any carnivorous dinosaurs.  She screams with deafening high-pitch, kicking and banging on the deadly cold hull.  “Someone, come back, hello…  Oh, fuck!  Please, don’t leave!  You mother fucker, can’t you hear me?  I’m here, HERE!  I’m alive.
I promise I am!
”

Chapter One

Bonita is very impressed by their honeymoon destination— the beautiful planet Le Jura that her husband Zaak discovered during a military exploration.

It’s a planet covered by ice and water.  The nearest land to the surface is about four hundred and thirty miles below sea level.   A thick layer of ice encrusted the planet, reflecting light so evenly as to destroy almost any shadow. From far above, the Le Jura drifts like a silvery pearl in the dark ocean of deep space.

Rumor has it that the sands of the ocean floor are full of gold and diamond. Top scientists on their home planet of Caludirium have begged Zaak to send his submarines to make full exploration.

Until they can harvest samples for examination, the true composition of Le Jura’s sea bed will remain a mystery. Unfortunately, the exploration is not a military operation and will not be conducted in near future.

Although the planet swings between two suns, Le Jura’s orbit is far from either twin. At the surface, the weather is so cold that the large watery body is covered by a single, gargantuan ice cap.

And yet, water flows. As if by magic, active underwater volcanoes send enough heat to melt over two thirds of the surface, turning the lonely planet into the breathtaking marvel of ice plateaus among a vast ocean.

Hot springs produce lakes and rivers everywhere.   Once in a while, a huge iceberg breaks down from the edge of a plateau, and is carried away by the ocean currents.

Unlike a typical biological system based on the heat and light from a sun, life on Le Jura begins at the bottom of the pitch dark ocean floor.

Active volcanoes line up along the ridges of the ocean mountains.   The smoke spews out, heating the water up to eight hundred Fahrenheit.  Iron, sulphur, and other minerals from the smoke serve as nutrients to the underwater flora and fauna.    When the smoke reaches the surface, it turns into bubbles in the hot spring.

The underwater ecosystem is based on shrimps and crabs which make their home at these volcanoes.  The larger creatures take them as food.  Heat and the high mineral content from these volcanoes form a rich soil for underwater plants to thrive. These waving plant forests serve as both shelter and food for smaller organisms.

At the surface, the twin suns illuminate the planet in pale light.  The sky is a mix of light brown, green, red, and purple; most time lavender.  Special gases in the atmosphere paint the sky with their magic colors: fluorine, chlorine, iodine, and nitrogen dioxide.

Sure these gases are deadly poisons to creatures from other planets, such as those from the Earth.  But the Caludirian civilization is so advanced that one painless injection enables Bonita’s body to handle all the chemicals.

“See the bird.” Bonita points at a large bird circling the sky at the remote horizon.

“A big one.” Zaak grins. The bubbling spring water hides the movement of his large hand as he massages Bonita’s inner thigh under the water.

“How big?  Like an eagle?” Bonita smiles at Zaak.

“Yeah, a BIG eagle.” Zaak grins.

Soon the bird comes close.
Gosh!
Bonita feels the vibration of the air.

Zaak put two fingers in his mouth and sends a perfect series of whistles into the air.  “Whip-woo, woooo-whip-woo…”

The bird circles above them, casting a huge shadow.  “Zaak, is she going to attack?”  Bonita holds her new hubby’s hand tight.

“No, no, she’s such a nice girl.”  He whistles again, this time with longer and softer tones.  The bird comes down slowly, its rough claws and wide-spread wings sending Bonita screaming behind Zaak.

“Come on, Bonnie, let’s go meet her.”  He stands up, holding Bonita’s hand.

Bonita peeks at the bird.  It’s much taller than her, with a long beak but no feathers.
Gosh!  A flying dinosaur.
   Bonita is scared.

Zaak smiles and steps forward, one large hand raised in greeting.   “Hi there, how are you today?”

The twin suns drop below the horizon in just minutes.  A single large moon takes over the sky, casting a silver light upon everything it touches.

The ocean surface is shining with mercury-striped ripples, reflecting the moonlight softly.   Bonita walks to the hotel room—a huge ice cave, holding her body tight.

“You cold?”

“A little bit.”  She walks faster.
