She wasn’t going to let him lie his way out of this. “Jensen, you said it was a good thing Sinful got destroyed. It was the best thing for the both of us.”

“Yes, I did but there was more to it.”

“What more could they have been?” Maymi demanded.

“Do you want to know what those keys are for?” Jensen asked, glancing down at them and then back up at her.

“No, of course not.”

“They are to Health Pro. I bought it weeks ago for Casper to have his own personal gym, but as usual he decided he wasn’t interested in that much responsibility. So, I was left with this huge piece of prime real estate without any real use for it until Sinful got destroyed.”

Slowly, she began to realize what Jensen was telling her. “Are you telling me that you are giving me Health Pro to start a new bakery?” she whispered.

“What you overheard me telling Casper my thoughts about it,” Jensen answered. “I think it’s the perfect spot for you. I will even help you interview people to help you out. Maymi, I love you so damn much. I wouldn’t ever get any enjoyment out of your pain.

“I wanted to tell you about this way before now, but your friends had you locked away like gold in Fort Knox and I couldn’t get to you.” Cupping her face in his hands, Jensen stared into her eyes. “I know you screamed you hated me earlier. Is that really true?”

Tears fell down her cheeks hitting the back of Jensen’s hands as she shook her head. “No, I love you. I hated that I did especially when I thought you loved that my bakery got destroyed, but I did. I still can’t believe you’re handing the keys of an entire building over to me. I can put a picture of my grandmother on the wall now.”

“Baby, you can do anything you like. It’s all yours. I’m just so thrilled I didn’t lose you,” Jensen whispered and lowered his head to kiss her but she moved back. “What’s wrong?”

“I just have one question before I let you kiss me,” Maymi said.

“Alright, what is it?” He took the keys from her hand and tossed them on the stand next to the bed. He slowly lowered her back down to the bed and covered her body with his.

“Will you be my assistant at least two times a week? I mean if you going to be with me you’ll at least need to know how to make two different desserts.”

“Maymi, if they are sinful as you are than I will make it there three days a week,” Jensen agreed right before he kissed her.

Sympathy for the Devil

By Asha King

Natasha Whitaker is a workaholic, putting in long hours to acclimate herself to the P.I. business in preparation to take over for her aging mentor. But the day after her boss’s retirement doesn't bring the usual insurance fraud and cheating spouses: instead, a dead body shows up in a startling similar fashion to a home invasion cold case from years ago.

Complicating matters is the return of Devin Archer--estranged husband of the original victim--to Stirling Falls. He was the prime suspect in the first case, though slipped away when there wasn't enough evidence to prove his guilt. With bodies piling up the same time as his arrival, all eyes in town turn to him once again.

Tash is hired by the brother of the first victim to keep tabs on Devin, a task she eagerly accepts. But she can’t help her attraction to this dark, potentially dangerous suspect, or deny the instant heat between them. Is Devin a broken man still suffering from the loss of his wife, or a cold-blooded killer setting his sights on Tash as his next victim?

A Sneak Peek...

“Is this Perry’s new tactic? Get me to incriminate myself to
you
?”

“Goddamn it, Devin, I’m trying to help you. The cops don’t know yet that she went there that night, but they’ll figure it out soon. The last victim spoke to you the night she was abducted—I know because I saw her approach you. If Walker did as well, that means someone is possibly deliberately targeting women who have been around you.”

“Like I told Perry,” he said coldly, slowly, and letting his voice drip with venom. “I. Don’t. Know. Walker.”

“Did anything happen Friday night? Did anyone talk to you?”

She was serious—she apparently
actually
wanted to know.

Devin sighed and shook his head. “Nothing out of the ordinary. Yeah, people talk—they tend to be very friendly when looking for someone to fuck.”

A blush crept up her cheeks, but it was the only sign of her discomfort; she had an excellent poker face. “And did you?”

“Excuse me?”

“Fuck anyone?”

He smiled unkindly. “Is this personal or professional curiosity, darlin’?”

She didn’t back up or storm away but he strongly suspected she wanted to. “Just answer the question.”

“I go out for drinks, not women. Since I’m not particularly welcome locally—despite trying—it’s the one place I
can
go.”

“It’s a hell of a distance to go and cover charge to pay for just that.”

“Maybe I like the atmosphere,” he said with a shrug.

“Maybe you like to screw strangers who end up dead later.”

“I
don’t
screw random women.”

Her chest heaved with rising irritation and her blush hadn’t abated. “Except me?”

So that was why she didn’t believe him.

He took a step forward, then another. She backed up, hit the porch railing, and froze, staring up at him.

“Are you here as a private investigator or because you’re jealous, Natasha?” He paused only inches away, the toes of his boots touching those of her running shoes.

“Why would I be jealous?” she said, her eyes hard and challenging.

“Why are you really here?”

The porch railing creaked behind her, and her arms across her midsection tightened. Her breasts were thrust out, begging for his touch, and he wondered if her body was warming and tingling the way his was.

His hands came down on either side of her, holding the rough railing and pressing against her hips.

“Here, at my home, instead of trying to meet in a public place. After I warned you what would happen next time.” Closer still, until he could feel her body heat against his, hear the little panicked breaths she tried to clamp down on. “You’re looking for something. Something you think I can give you. Is that it, darlin’?”

“I should go.” She didn’t move, though—made no effort to leave.

“Maybe you’re thinking what I’m thinking.” He pushed his feet between hers, urging her into a wider stance. Her eyes grew glassy and a shudder worked through her as his hands folded on her hips.

“What?” she whispered.

“You’re thinking that you want to know what it’s like. To give up control. Be dominated. To have me tan that ass of yours before fucking it, and making you beg for every moment of it.”

His words had the desired effect, tremors working through her body and chest heaving as she panted. He swept his eyes over her, through the scant two inches between them, and to her eyes again. His grip tightened on her hips and her still-crossed arms loosened slightly. Her head tipped to the side as he leaned forward, brushed his lips up her throat.

“You’ll call me ‘sir’,” he whispered. “And you’ll beg. And you’ll thank me when I make you come.”

Hot for the Handyman

By Paige Bennett

Fifty-three year old widow Yvetta Phelps is lonely. She had a great marriage with her late husband, and put her own life on hold after his death three years prior, but now she realizes that she misses the intimacy of a relationship with a man and needs to move forward.

Enter, Ray Cameron, the young attractive handyman she's hired to build a deck on the back of her house. From the first moment they meet, the sexual tension is thick between them. Ray prefers the company of mature women and thinks Yvetta is the most beautiful woman he's ever met. Yvetta is likewise smitten, but fights the attraction due to her fears around their age difference and what people will think, most especially her twenty-six year old daughter, Tanisha.

Inevitably, they succumb to their attraction and spend a transformative night together, but it only fuels Yvetta's self doubt, and she almost loses Ray as a result. It takes forgiveness, and an understanding heart (and steaming hot sex) to bring the two of them back together.

A Sneak Peek...

Silence stretched between them as they gazed into each other’s eyes, then she abruptly stood, knocking back her chair and breaking the tension. “I could use a cup of tea. Shall I make a pot?”

Ray smiled. “Sure. That’d be great. And there’s still apple crumble, right?”

“I thought you were full to bursting,” Yvetta said in a teasing tone.

“There’s always room for dessert,” he said.

She laughed as she bustled about, filling the kettle and putting it on the stove. She brought the apple crumble to the table and went back to the cupboard for a couple of little dessert bowls. The fridge’s freezer held a small container of Ben and Jerry’s Vanilla Caramel Fudge, which she also brought to the table. By then the kettle was boiling. She dropped two teabags into the pot, and poured the boiling water over. That done, she carried the pot to the table and, still standing, attempted to pour them tea.

But Ray noticed that her hands shook. She was nervous, he noted. How cute. A few splashes of tea missed the tea cup and splattered on the table.

Yvetta gasped and set the pot down, grabbing a napkin to mop up the spillage. “I’m so sorry. How clumsy of me...”

Ray reached over and stilled her hand. “It’s fine, Yvetta. It’s just a little spill...”

She froze at his touch and her eyes flew up to meet his.

Ray sensed a shift in the atmosphere then...a rise in the heat in the room, an awareness of Yvetta’s need. Sparks jumped between them, and in the next moment, he pulled her into his lap, wrapped his arms around her, and pressed his lips to hers.

Her arms went around his neck and he felt, more than heard, her moan of acceptance and of mutual want. Her lips parted, and his tongue gained entry. Heaven.
