“You right,” Romeo said, taking slow steps towards her. “That shit back in there…that ain’t really how I get down. Blame it on the liquor. Not on my heart,” he told her.

Shayla didn’t respond as she stared at him through narrowed eyes.

“Lemme make it up to you,” Romeo offered. The look on his handsome face was genuine, but she was apprehensive when it came to him. A first impression was certainly a lasting impression.

Shayla didn’t bother replying as she looked over his shoulder towards the entrance.

“Ya girl ain’t comin’,” Romeo said, knowing exactly who she was looking for. “I told you, she keepin’ company with my homie. And it don’t look like she leavin’ anytime soon.”

Growing cold from the breeze, Shayla hugged herself to keep warm.

“Look, you ain’t gotta forgive me for that bullshit I said in there. But at least lemme take you home,” he offered. “It’s too damn cold out here to be standin’ around.”

Shayla grimaced as she weighed her options. They were definitely slim under such circumstances. “Fine,” she agreed, realizing she had no other choice.

“Cool.”

Putting her reservations to the side, Shayla waited for valet to pull up his whip. She literally had to keep her mouth from dropping open after a silver 2015 Porsche Spyder arrived. Seriously? This is what he’s pushing?

The valet attendant anxiously hopped out before opening the passenger door for Shayla. Secretly, she relished the envious stares from chicks that were still waiting in line. The moment she climbed in, the pungent scent of marijuana filled her nostrils.

Shayla had no idea she was now playing with fire...

Focused on their own little altercation, the two of them failed to realize they were being closely watched. Parked several feet away in a black boxed Chevy were three goons behind tinted windows. The jack boys had been scrutinizing Romeo and Desmond all night. As soon as they noticed one leave, they hastily made their departure as well.

“You really think dude holdin’?” Kevin, the youngest of the trio asked. At only eighteen, he’d abandoned his education for a life of crime with his older brother.

With wild, shoulder length dreads that were always unkempt, Kevin looked a lot like Chi town rapper, Chief Keef—and was equally as rebellious.

“Fuck you think? Look what da nigga pushin’,” Kaniel told his younger sibling. He too had dreads, but his touched the middle of his back.

“I may have to swipe that bitch too,” their friend Lamar added in. He was a coffee brown brother with a face full of tattoos.

“The car or the chick?” Kaniel asked.

              “Shit, both,” Lamar cackled.

Together they watched as Romeo and Shayla pulled off into traffic. Keeping their distance, they followed closely behind. Without a doubt, they knew this would be their biggest lick yet.

EXCERPT FROM “BACKPAGE”

Juicy J and The Weeknd’s “One of Those Nights” blared through the massive speakers inside of Velvet Ultra Lounge. Colorful strobe lights reflected off the dozens of people swaying and gyrating on the dance floor.

Big-bootied waitresses sashayed through the crowds while carrying bottles with sparklers. Weed clouds mingled with the club’s smoke machine filled the air creating a misty atmosphere. The place was jam packed and lively as usual—but that was expected of the Atlanta nightlife.

Royalty sat alone on a plush leather sofa in the VIP room as he snorted a line of coke up his nostrils. Other than being impulsive and rowdy, he had a serious drug addiction. He often blamed it on the horrible things he experienced during deployment—but that was only part of the reason.

Cocaine temporarily made Royalty forget about his past, insecurities, and dealing with the truth. At twenty-five, he still was unwilling to accept who he was so he used the drugs to mask his feelings.

Royalty snorted and wiped his nose. Standing to his feet, he walked over towards the rail and looked down at the dance floor. His eyes scanned the massive crowd of club-goers until they finally settled on Lady.

Royalty lit an L as he watched her grind her colossal ass against Cap’s mid-section. Lady’s body was something fierce. She had a super tiny waist with massive thighs, and enough booty to donate to the less fortunate. A chocolate Keyshia Dior was what Royalty always told her she looked like.

Seeing Lady twerk on his homeboy had Royalty’s dick rock hard. He had fucked her so many times that the sweet scent of her pussy was embedded in his memory. Without even trying, she managed to turn him on like no other.

Suddenly, Lady’s dark-eyed gaze connected with Royalty’s. Evidently, Allen wasn’t the only one who liked to watch.

Royalty released the smoke through his nostrils as he continued to undress Lady with his eyes. His bad boy demeanor was what made her fall for him. That and the way he fucked her in the bedroom. Lady would have memories for a lifetime.

Royalty was an animal. His sexual appetite, insatiable. He was both aggressive and passionate when it came to sex. He made it his sole mission to fuck Lady into submission whenever they made love. He was the type of nigga that would choke you and pull your hair while telling you how much he loved you and needed you.

Lady smiled and blew a kiss to Royalty. She loved teasing him.

Royalty chuckled and pulled out his cellphone. He then sent a text message and patiently waited for her to receive it.

After feeling her phone vibrate, Lady pulled the iPhone out her black studded Louboutin clutch. Her eyes anxiously scanned Royalty’s text which read: You gon’ be my bitch til I expire.

“Tell that nigga wait his turn,” Cap whispered in her ear as he held her from behind.

Lady slowly turned around and wrapped her arms around Cap’s neck. For the moment, she decided to give him her undivided attention. “Don’t tell me you’re getting jealous,” she teased.

Cap snickered. “Nah, none of that,” he assured. “But, shit, if we gon’ share yo’ ass then he gon’ have to learn to play fair.”

Most people would never understand the four friends’ kinship because society stressed that a regular couple consisted of two people. However, the quartet had made up their own standards, setting them apart from the rest.

Royalty and Cap were both Sweater and Lady’s boyfriends. And Lady and Sweater were both of their girlfriends. Instead of the common two-way relationship, they had their own four-way thing going on. The friends lived together in a two bedroom-two bathroom home in Riverdale, and conducted their lives like every day normal couples.

Some nights Lady slept with Cap. Some nights Lady slept with Royalty. At the end of the day, they all had an understanding and more importantly they all trusted each other.
