FIRST AND FOREMOST
I must thank the people at Allen & Unwin – in particular Jodie Webster and Hilary Reynolds – for being so utterly delightful to work with, and for making such wonderful books with my name on the front.

Of course the whole book would be a confusing jumble of contradictions if it weren’t for the storylining genius of Sarah Dollard, who is the best critic and friend a girl could wish for. As always, Justine Larbalestier also provided generous, useful and invaluable feedback.

Thanks also to Colleen Boyle for giving me a behind-the-scenes tour of the Melbourne Museum and telling me lots of disgusting stories; to Liz Hills and Chris Miles for help with D&D stuff, my dad for telling me about the snails in Patricia Highsmith’s bosom, and Jess West for letting me borrow her Celestial Badger.

Mary Roach’s stomach-turningly-wonderful
Stiff
taught me a lot of creepy things about death and decay that made their way into this story – it’s a highly recommended read.

And, finally, to my oldest friend, Anna Grace Hopkins – thanks for sticking around.
