“Whatever would you do without me? Okay, I'm about to fall asleep.” Daria slowly sat up. “And I guess this lawn
is
kind of your bridal suite. So rude of me to take a nap in what is probably your marital bed where all kinds of things might have happened.”
“Things do happen,” Amelia agreed. “And with an Ultraco, they happen a lot. And speak of the dragon ...”
Braxan came strolling along the edge of the lawn, wearing the kilt-like garment that seemed to be his favorite. Even here, just calmly walking through a garden, his royal bearing was obvious.
Daria sighed and unashamedly checked out Amelia's husband. “You know, if he has a brother he wants to set up, send him my way. Doesn't even have to be a prince. A street sweeper or a plumber or something would be just fine. As long as he has that dragon presence.”
“I'll tell him,” Amelia said and got back on her feet. “They don't really choose their loves themselves. They have a Fated Mate kind of deal. That's what started this whole thing. He saw that I was his Mate.”
“Yeah? Stars, I love that. And you two found each other in a universe as huge as this one. Maybe there's some hope for me, too. I'm super happy for you both, by the way.”
Amelia hugged her friend close. “Thanks, Daria.”
“Thanks for what?” Braxan was approaching. “Don't give her any gold, Daria. She has dragon in her now. She might start a hoard.”
Daria smiled at the Ultraco. “Oh, I think I know what her hoard is. And yours, too. Okay, I suppose I have a wedding to plan now. I hope you like teal and black. See ya!” She sauntered off in the direction of the elevator down to Marqatzo's insides.
Braxan took Amelia in his arms and kissed her on the lips. “Girls conspiring, huh? What was that about your hoard?”
She reached up and laid her arms around his neck. “Oh, you know. My hoard. My big, strong hoard with the wings and the scales and the kilt.”
“Ah.
That
hoard.” The Ultraco took hold of Amelia's gold medallion and turned it around so the text was outward. “You know, I thought I loved my hoard. My old one, I mean. And then it turned out that I didn't. I gave it up. It wasn't even that hard. I was never in doubt.”
“Do you ever miss it?”
Braxan looked up at the Earth. “Yes. I miss the gold. And the gems.” He shrugged. “I am a dragon.”
Amelia felt the familiar hardness between them and loosened the cord that held his kilt up. “Can't you start a new one? I mean, like a hobby and not an obsession that has you going to war for pay?”
The dragon prince pulled her shirt over her head. “I suppose. But my new hoard is so much more fulfilling than the old one. I think I'll focus on that for a while.”
Amelia opened her bra in the back and discarded it. “Oh, you better. This hoard can do something that the old one couldn't.”
He raised his eyebrows and stepped out of his kilt. His manhood strained towards the sky. “Only one thing? I can think of many.”
Amelia pulled her pants off and flung them away. She was always ready in his presence. “Well, several things, of course. But one thing above all.”
“Now you have me curious.” The dragon kissed both her breasts and cupped her naked butt in his strong hands.
She embraced his neck again and he lifted her up, so she could curl her legs around his waist. “
This
hoard can love you right back.”
He pierced her soul with those strange eyes with their alternating yellow and blue sectors. Yellow for the dragon, blue for the man. “And does it?”
She laid her head back and looked up at the Earth. It seemed very close. Anyone there with a strong enough telescope could probably see them right now. She didn't mind that. Not at all. She wanted everyone to see that she was his.
“You know, I think it just might.”
