“Come to me, Kris, or I will wake you and be very unhappy,” she mumbled, and closing her eyes, let out a breath and sighed. “I love you, Kristof, join me. I need to dance in your arms again and right now that is the only place we can.”

“Yes ma’am,” he whispered as he slid into sleep. Forcing his mind to the dreaming, Kris formed a ballroom with a thought and dressed himself appropriately. He was having a hell of a time though holding the dream shape, if Courtney didn’t arrive and help him hold it soon she’d walk into his nightmares instead.

She slid into the room dressed in a long silver gown and smiled. “My wedding dress,” she gave him as she added flowers and white to the ballroom. “Something to help keep you on the here and now, on me, Kris.” She turned for him. “Do you approve?”

Looking her up and down, he nodded slowly. “Isn’t it bad luck for the groom to see the wedding dress before the wedding?” he asked as he cued up music and moved toward her. Holding out his hand he took hers as she gave it to him. Tugging her gently he hugged her close and then moved them around the room to the music.

“This is just the gown I want, Kris. It’s made of silver, there is no fabric in reality that is like this.” She shrugged and went into his arms and close to him. “Besides, it’s a myth that it’s bad luck. It stemmed from way back when there were arranged marriages.” She didn’t know why she was blathering on, but she was. “A father would arrange a very ugly daughter’s marriage, she would be seen beforehand and the groom would run away, hence why it’s bad luck.” She pulled back and with laughter in her voice asked, “Unless you’re saying I’m ugly and you should run?”

Growling at her he tugged her back to him. “You are perfection made flesh, Courtney, and you damn well know it, woman. I happen to be rather traditional on some things.” Though his mother would kick his ass for taking advantage of her before they were wed. “If something happens to me during the ceremony I’m blaming you totally,” he teased, kissing her gently.

“You can wear a four leaf clover in your lapel, Kris. Nothing will happen to you.” Or she would lose her mind. “Now, waltz with me?” she asked as they simply stood there now in the middle of the ballroom. “Dance with me as if it were our wedding day, Kris?”

Nodding slowly he changed the music and took her gently into his arms. Moving her across the floor in the old-fashioned waltz, he kissed her nose lightly. “I love you, Courtney,” he whispered softly to her.

“And I love you, too, Kristof.” They danced for what felt like hours, turning and laughing, enjoying each second they had until she moved them into a garden. “I need you, Kris. You won’t make love to me in reality, and I miss you. I need you.” And six weeks was just too damn long to be without release. “Make love to me? With me?”

She’d been hurt and he hadn’t wanted to cause her any more pain, but in the dreams he could take her without worry about any of that. Altering the dream he guided her to the large bed set in a soft glow of candle light stripping them both with another adjustment. Laying her on the soft silks of the sheets, Kris ran a slow hand over her body. “Perfect,” he breathed looking into her eyes as he stroked her skin.

She bit her lip and nodded. “Yes you are, aren’t you?” When he was about to complain, she shook her head and grinned. “Don’t, give me this, Kris. Give this to me, darling, and let me have it.” Her hands moved over his body and smiled. “I need you, Kris. I need everything from you because I am giving you all of me.”

He didn’t know what to say to her so he just kissed her softly. Rolling to his back he pulled her over him, draping her body over his. Nipping at her skin he stroked his hands slowly down her back to cup her bottom.

She moved easily in his hands and braced her hands on his chest. Looking down at him she adjusted herself on him and slid onto him hungrily. Her eyes never leaving his as she ushered him into her body.

Lifting his hips slowly he let out a slow hiss of air as he joined with her. “I’ve missed you so much, Courtney,” he whispered softly pulling her down to kiss her.

The kiss was sweet and hot and sexy all in one. She pulled back slightly and nibbled his lips as she moved on him in their dream. “I’ve missed you, too, Kristof. So much I’ve missed you,” she murmured slightly as she moved with him. “I love you, Kristof. God, I love you.”

“I love you, too, baby,” he smiled up at her softly. Stroking her cheek he let his hands wander down over her body gently. Cupping her breasts he massaged them, flicking at the tight nipples carefully even as he lifted his hips to push into her deeper.

She rode him for what seemed like hours until she threw her head back and cried out, his name a passionate scream from her lips as she came hard, hot and fast.

Arching up he yelled her name loud and long to the heavens, his body shuddering in relief and pure sensation. Collapsing under her, Kristof lay panting hard, his chest rising and falling, that had been…Wow! He knew when they finally came together in reality it would be fifty times more explosive, but some things he didn’t intend on telling his mate. This at least would sate the Wolf for a time, but now he’d had a taste of her again after a long dry spell and he wanted more.

She was draped over his chest like a cheap floozy and gasping for air like a guppy. Her eyes closed as she tried to find the words, but none would form until finally she moved slightly and muttered, “We will need to take out extra insurance on the house when we are able to make love again in reality.” Because with the heat they generated, and the explosion she knew would happen, they would lay waste to their home.

Chuckling softly he kissed her hair lightly and nodded. “I think that may be wise,” he breathed out hoarsely. Stroking her hair carefully he let his head drop to the bedding again. “I don’t think I can ever move again.”

“I don’t think I want to,” she said with a satisfied smile as she snuggled down and closer to him. “God I love you, Kris.” It came out a whisper of sound, her mind telling her that while the dreaming was amazing, her body was still healing and needed rest. “Hold me all night, Kris? Stay with me, please?” She was afraid he would pull out of the sleep to save her from his nightmares, but he needed to realize that she would always be there for him, nightmares or amazing sex, she was there for all of it.

Sighing softly he nodded. “I’ll try, love, but you need to remember some of this is instinctual and I have no control over it. But I will try, for you,” he promised, it was the best he could do at the moment. He knew that if, or rather when, a nightmare hit his mind would automatically protect her and shut her out from what was happening.

“I love you, Kris,” she gave one last time before she closed her eyes and was sound asleep in her dream and in reality.

Chapter 5

Jerking violently, Kris lifted his head and then let out a low growl, there was someone in the house. Touching a finger to Courtney’s lips as she woke, he shook his head and then pressed his finger to his lips to signal her to remain silent. Shifting he slid off the bed and padded silently on bare feet to the door. Easing it open on silent hinges he crept down the hall and came around the corner. “For fuck sakes, Laz, you’re supposed to call before just showing up here,” he snarled when he caught his brother’s scent. “Wait”—he frowned—“what are you doing here?”

“I’m here because you didn’t answer your phone when I called this morning, the four times or the time right after lunch either. Since we hadn’t heard from you in over twelve hours my mate decided we needed to scope things out,” Laszlo said as he turned with a shrug. “For whatever reason she has this theory that if you’re left to your own devices too long you’ll keel over dead or some such nonsense.”

Desi rounded the corner and laughed. “No, I don’t think you will keel over dead.” She took another big bite of her Slim Jim and chewed slowly. “However, you all know that he starts in that lab and he forgets to do anything, eat, drink, take care of his mate?” She teased knowing that he would never forget to take care of Courtney. “Where is C anyway, Kris?”

“Bedroom,” Kris said, eyeing her. “I still can’t believe you put up with big brother’s crap, and willingly,” he commented even as he stepped back out of range with a grin. Shaking his head he waved them on. “Come on, I’m sure Courtney will be glad for company other than mine.” Who wouldn’t. Stepping through the door he smiled at his mate. “It’s okay, love, just the neighbors being their usual nosy selves.”

Courtney grinned. “Thank god, someone to tell Kris that I could be up and moving.” Well, at least be carried somewhere other than their bed. “I am growing mold. I really, really want to move, please?” she begged and took Kris’s hand in hers when he moved to her side, positioning himself between her and his brother and sister-in-law, protective as ever.

Desi snorted and took a seat on the chair at the side of the bed. “You love us, Kris, and you know it.” She took Laszlo’s hand when he moved to her side, slightly in front of her as if in protection as well. “And yes, I put up with him because I love him more than life itself.”

Rubbing his chin to Courtney’s hair he rolled his eyes at Des. “I love you, Des, Laz I tolerate because I’m pretty sure he can kick my ass. And you, missy”—he looked to Courtney with a frown—“you can move when you can move all under your own power. When that occurs you can run laps and marathons.” And he’d be there every step of the way to ensure nothing ever happened to her again.

She snorted and grumbled. “I love you, Kris, but you’re being mean.” She shrugged and again looked to Desi. “Will you guys at least go out and buy us the latest Blu-rays and junk food?”

Now this Desi could understand and nodded. “I will make sure Laz goes.” Because of the advanced state of her pregnancy she wasn’t allowed outside of the properties between the brothers unless Laszlo was with her, and she knew why. After the attempt on her life when she first found out she was pregnant, yeah, not happy times.

Tuning in Laz rolled his eyes. “I suppose this is supposed to be a not so subtle hint?” he asked.

“Brother.” Kris snorted. “There was no subtlety anywhere near that suggestion. They left subtle at the door and came at you full bore, all barrels blazing,” he said with grin.

“You’re lucky I like her, brother,” Laz growled at his younger brother. “You are the only reason I’m doing this, Courtney, because the sooner you are out of bed and making his life miserable, the happier we all will be.”

Smiling gleefully Courtney nodded. “Believe me, I’m trying but I’m not all super-fast healing like you boys.” She winked. “Be happy that he loves me as much as he does or I would be calling you to go down to our lab and burn it down so that I can have my mate with me.” She squeezed Kris’s hand with her good one. “We are going into business together, did he tell you that?”

“I believe he mentioned it about the time that he asked me what he was worth,” Laz said dryly sharing a grin with his mate. Kris had not exactly been coherent when he’d been rambling on about it. The original conversation had been in the hospital when they’d taken Courtney in for post-operative X-rays and he’d needed a distraction. A couple weeks later he and Des had come over to check on Courtney since she was home at that time and to find out what he’d been babbling about.

“Apparently I’m worth a bit,” Kris said with a shrug, glaring at his brother to keep his mouth shut. “I thought it a valid question considering the fact that I no longer have a job.”

She shrugged. “I have no idea what I’m worth. If you include the paintings, more than likely a great deal.” Courtney closed her eyes and sighed as she simply sat there with her mate.

“Good point,” Kris commented with a nod. “We should look into that, we’ll need to when we get around to kids and all that anyway.”

“Paintings?” Desi asked curiously now.

“Oh.” Courtney flushed. “Kris knows, but I think that I likely haven’t told any of you.” She looked up into Kris’s eyes and when he nodded she looked back at Desi and Laszlo. “I am Warsaw C.”

It didn’t take Desi more than five seconds to let out a low whistle. “No shit?”

“Yeah, no shit.” Her face was in flames as she realized that both of them knew just the extent of her following, of her popularity.

“I have several of your pieces,” Laszlo commented. “Had I known you’d end up in the family I’d have waited for the discount rate,” he teased with a grin at her. “A couple at the house and that one you like in my office behind the desk,” he said to Desmonda when she looked his way.

Courtney’s eyes were glued to Kris as she realized what he had said. She watched him for a time before whispering, “You want children with me, Kris?” She didn’t think he did, not with his “anomaly” as he termed it. “You will give me children, Kris, really?” Tears dripped from her eyes as she just watched him.

Desi grinned and looked at Laszlo. “I think that’s our cue, love, take me for ice cream?”

Nodding, Laz took her hand and then mimed calling Courtney later, he would, too, on the way back so he could pick up what she wanted for the night.

Waiting until his brother and mate were gone, Kris nodded slowly. “I don’t want to miss out on anything, Courtney,” he said softly. “It’s likely selfish of me, but I do want to have children with you. I know with the anomaly it is a huge chance to take, but if you’re willing, I want to take it with you, love.”

She nodded and felt the tears falling. “Yes, I’m very sure.” She watched him and then touched his cheek. “We will be like you, I want to be like you are, Kris. When we do get pregnant, when we decide to take that final step I want to be a Wolf like you. I want to be able to protect our children, I need to be able to protect our children if you aren’t with me, Kris, please?”
