Chapter Five

Dennis said he
had some things to do. So he gave me his credit card to go shopping and buy a dress for this party thingy. I hate the fact that he is so rich. Just this little piece of plastic makes me feel so uncomfortable. I decided to walk around and shop; it’s something that I missed doing. Since I’ve been with Dennis I haven’t done the simple things I used to do. As I walked down the block, I had the feeling that something was not right. My ‘Spidey Sense’ was kicking in from my ring. I quickly looked over my shoulder and glanced around. Then I spotted the familiar black car. It was Dillon tailing me; I shook my head at the thought of Dennis and his over protectiveness. I turned around and strolled up the passenger window and seen Dillon blush red. I caught him red handed and he felt embarrassed that he was following me.

“Did Dennis put you up to this?” I asked but I already knew the answer.

“Yes ma’am.” I smiled.

“Well you don’t have to follow me like this. Come,” I motioned him to get out of the car. “Walk with me.” He nodded and
got out of the car and walked with me. Well at least now I have someone to keep me company as I go search for a dress.

We walked a few blocks away
from the hotel to a local boutique shop. It wasn’t a designer name store, which I liked, it was a plain little store. I looked and looked and looked, till I found the most beautiful blue sleeveless gown. I tried it on in the dressing room and I fell in love with it and I think Dennis will like it too. I brought the dress to the checkout counter without even looking at the price. That was so not me, but the fact that I had Dennis’s credit card burning a hole in my clutch bag, I knew he could afford it. I mean shit, he bought a freaking island so I think he can afford just about anything. As the sale woman rang up the dress I did not look nor ask the price, I just handed over the card and throw the receipt in the bag.

Dillon and I made our way back to the
hotel; I told him that he didn’t have to escort me inside which he complied to. As I made my way back to our hotel suite, I was shock to find Dennis in the kitchen making some coffee. I ran up behind him and hugged him tight. We haven’t been left alone since we have been here but sometimes I can’t help myself.

“Hey beautiful, did you find a gown for tonight?”
He asked turning to face me.

“Yes I did.” He leaned down and kissed me. “And I found something else along the way,” I murmured against his lips trying to catch him off guard.

“And what was that?” He asked oblivious to the obvious.

“Dillon stalking me,” I said and he just stood there and smiled. I shook my head at him and jabbed him in the side.

“Ouch,” he said as he held the side that I hit him on. “I’m sorry love, I should have said something earlier but I needed to know that you were safe.” I glared at him. “Since the CIA is looking for us I had to be sure,” he added.

“Well don’t fret my love,” I said as I cupped the sides of his face. “I have this to warn me,” I
whispered and showed him my ring.

“I know. That is why I worry more.”

He has no need to worry about me, I’m a big girl and I can take care of myself...I did till I met Dennis. If my memory is correct, I saved him because of my ring. I stopped Benny from killing him but almost killing myself with my own powers, but that’s here nor there. I still saved his life. I also dislodged the bullet from his leg and healed it but he’s worried about me. I let it drop because all it would do is start an argument that will go back and forth and I don’t want to fight. We’ve been getting along so well over the past month I’ll let him win this one, but if there is a next time I will prove him wrong.

He decided that we should have a day out in the sun
since its still early. We spent the majority of the afternoon outside, while Dennis showed me the best parts of the Jamaica. We explored its magnificent coral reefs and endless white sandy beaches, complimented by its tropical landscape.

Dennis
showed me a good time to the point of near exhaustion; we did everything from snorkeling to windsurfing, you name it we did it. He even took me on a little hike too, telling me about the different types of plants and wildlife that’s here on the mainland. For once today, we just decided to just relax on the beach for the rest of the day and soak up in the sun. After a long day like today, the sun felt amazing on my skin. I lost track of time as the sun started to fade away, Dennis and I strolled along the beach hand in hand when a man and a woman suddenly approached us; they looked like very important people.

“Dennis Evers
, I’m so glad you could make it,” the man said while shaking hands with Dennis.

“I’m glad I was invited to
come,” Dennis replied while looking down at me. I narrowed my eyes at him as I didn’t understand why he was invited, and then it hit me. We were walking towards the Ocho Rios beach party. “This is David Maltiz, he’s hosting the auction tonight and this is his wife Kathleen,” he added. “This is lovely lady is my girlfriend Angelina,” he gestured with his hand. I smiled and greeted them both.

“Aw, you two look
like a very lovely couple,” Kathleen said. I blushed and smiled back at her. She whispered something into David’s ear then said her goodbyes and walked away.

“Can we talk?” David asked Dennis and he nodded.

“Go and relax a bit, I’ll be back soon okay?” He said turning to me and I nodded.

He kissed my forehead
and he walked away with David. I walked over to an empty gazebo and relaxed on the one of recliners and closed my eyes. It was a little after dusk and Dennis still hadn’t come back yet. I sighed to myself, I was getting lonely without Dennis here by my side.

“Is this seat taken?” A woman asked.
I opened my eyes to see a redhead, probably my age and that her vibrant red hair was not her natural color, smiling down at me.

“No
,” I said with a smile and she sat down on the recliner next to me.

“Hi, I’m Anastasia
,” she said extending her hand out to me. I noticed her accent, she definitely was a Jamaican resident, and she looked very classy too.

“Angelina,
” I said shaking hands with her. “It’s nice to meet you,” I added.

“Likewise
. Ah an American?” She asked noting my own accent. I nodded. “Yeah I figured, I’d never seen you around here before. You look important so I thought I’d hang out with you,” she said smiling. I laughed at her for calling me important; shit, she’s the one who looked important. I’m just a simple girl from Virginia I thought to myself. “You’re on vacation right? How is Jamaica treating you?”

“Oh, it’s amazing.
I love it here,” I said truthfully and she smiled widely. We talked for a while, about me, about her and the ball later tonight; my temporary loneliness from Dennis was cured by her presence.

“I’m going to the ball
tonight, you’re coming right?” She asked and I nodded, she’s very talkative so when she stopped talking, I abruptly looked at her and mentally told her to keep talking. I hate talking about myself; I’m not rich or special…well not in that kind of way. I couldn’t go around and blab to everyone I saw and say, hey I have a ring that gives me special powers. “Oh my, that’s a beautiful ring,” she says catching me off guard. I sat there stunned for a second on what to say.

“Um, thank you. It’s an um…family heirloom.” I didn’t know what else to say. I mean, I’m not technically lying, my grandfather did hand the ring down to me.

“Well it’s absolutely beautiful,” she said as she grabbed my hand to take a closer look at it. “I love it, and the stone placement is amazing. It must be worth a fortune,” she added. I was just about to acknowledge her on her remark till she startled me with her half screech. “Holy Fuck!” She breathed. “Excuse my language hun, but I think Greece has lost one of its gods,” she said. Her eyes were fixated ahead; she looked at me then pointed towards the beach. “Get a load of that handful of sexiness,” she said as I looked to where she was pointing. It was Dennis and he was coming out of the water, running his hand through his wet black hair as the water trickled down his hot body. “Woo!” She swooned fanning herself. “A man like that doesn’t get any more perfect than that.”

“I know
,” I added in the same enthralled tone. Not bothering to let her know that he was my Greek god. We both stared shamelessly at him while he sauntered towards us.

“Oh my
god, is he coming over here?” She asked frantically while fixing her hair. “There’s nothing in my teeth right?” She asked smiling at me.

“No
,” I said stifling a smile. Dennis came over and sat on the edge of my recliner. I sat up as he leaned towards me and kissed me on the lips.

“I missed you,” I whispered to him.

“I’m sorry, I needed to cool off as you can tell,” he murmured. “I’m going to have a meeting with those business associates from earlier in a few minutes, so I’ll have to leave you for a little while,” he said as he rested his forehead against mine.

“It
’s okay, go handle your business. I’ll be fine here,” I said looking into his gorgeous blue eyes as if I was in a trance. Dennis turns his head to Anastasia, who was staring at us with her mouth open. Oh shit, I totally forgot that she was here.

“Hi,
I’m Dennis,” he said offering her his hand.

“A-Anastasia,” she said shaking his hand. Dennis
nodded and turned back to me.

“I’ll meet you at the ball
in an hour; Dillon will take you there, okay?”

“Alright
,” I said and he smiled while grabbing my hand and then kissed my knuckles. He got up and walked away as both Anastasia and I stared after him. I turned my attention back to her and she gave me a scornful look and I shrugged. “I forgot to say that he’s also my boyfriend,” I added as she shook her head in disbelief.

“You could ha
ve given a girl a little warning you know,” she said and started laughing hysterically. “I mean damn, I totally made an ass of myself,” she added.

“Sorry
.”

“O
h no hun, don’t apologize. I just wonder how you were able to keep from scratching my eyes out. Then again if you did that to every girl that swooned over him we’d all be blind,” she added as I nodded sadly. Even though he always made me feel like I was the only woman in the world, I wasn’t. And I knew in the back of my mind that any woman would kill for a chance to be with him. “Aw hun, I didn’t mean to make you feel insecure. Sure we all want him but it doesn’t matter because he’s so in love with you.” I looked at her and thought about what she said. Yeah, every woman alive would give their right arm just to sleep with him but he has eyes only for me, well I hope he does. “It actually hurts my self-esteem,” she added and I smiled at her kindness.

“You th
ink so?” I asked and she nodded.

“Yeah he’s not going anywhere, besides the two of you make sense together
.”

“Make sense?” I asked
, a little baffled at her statement.

“Yeah, I mean the
both of you are drop-dead gorgeous,” she said and continued. “Damn, I would love to see what your kids would look like, they would just be…wow!” She stated.

I blushed; she couldn’t be serio
us. I knew I was decent looking but not drop-dead gorgeous, but I couldn’t deny that Dennis was. I’ve always wanted to have kids one day, but there was something about having Dennis’s baby that made my heart race every time I thought about it. For a split second I let my mind wander as I imagined myself holding a little baby boy in my arms and he looked exactly like his father. I sighed as Anastasia laughed at the expression I had on my face then stood up.

Okay, enough daydreaming. I’m going to the salon to get my hair done.” She glanced down at her watch. “Since the ball is going to start in about an hour or so I gotta run. Hey, you want to come with me?” She asked and I shook my head. She then gave me a skeptical look. “You weren’t going to do your own hair and make-up were you?” She asked again. Yes I thought to myself, but I knew better. This was a fancy event that needed an extravagant look.

“No
.”

“Then come on,
let’s do this,” she said and I gathered my things and left with her.

I rushed
back to the hotel to get dressed after being at the salon with Anastasia for over an hour. Dennis said to meet him at the ball in an hour but my hair and make-up at the salon ran a little late. I pulled out my blue gown and pulled it over my head with extra caution not to mess up my hair. I had to admit that the hairstylist did a magnificent job with my hair, it was elegant but yet simple which I like, it totally suited me. This event seemed reminiscent to my birthday party, just that now I knew why I was actually getting dressing up. I laughed to myself as I finished up. I grabbed my clutch bag then took a moment to look at myself in the mirror. Becca and Pam would be proud of me I thought to myself, as I looked myself over in the mirror, I looked pretty good.

As
I walked out of the hotel suite, I had to carry the skirt of my gown when I walked even though I was wearing stilettos. I made my way outside to find Dillon waiting for me by the car. He opened the door for me while commenting on me that I looked beautiful. I blushed and thanked him. He drove across the city and parked in front of a huge building where limousines and expensive sports cars were dropping people off who were dressed in the same type of attire as me. I took a deep breath as Dillon helped me out of the car, I was a little nervous. This was the first ball I’d ever attended, and not having Dennis with me at my side was not helping the situation any better.
