At this point, it didn’t matter to Clementine. Well, it did. She really loved Remington, had almost since the moment his mother had introduced them a year ago. But, she’d seen that flash from the future. Him watching as she walked down the aisle to marry another man. She’d realized long ago, one couldn’t change your destiny.

“You about ready in there?” Clementine jumped at the sound of Remington’s voice outside the bathroom door. She took a deep breath and smoothed her hands down the side of her dress one more time, the feel of the fabric giving her confidence a much-needed boost.

“I’m ready.”
As I’ll ever be
, she whispered to herself.

Remington staggered backward as Clementi opened the bathroom door and stepped into his bedroom. Again, a flash of light seemed to embrace her, flaring out around her. She stepped forward and closed the door behind her and the light disappeared.

He cleared his throat, his eyes roaming over her. Damn, she was fucking beautiful. Inside his demon started to pant, the sexual tension rising inside him until he felt his entire body tauten with need. Need for this woman.

Ours.

The word whispered through Remington’s mind.

Ours.

No, no, no, he shook his head. Not ours.

He saw Clementine’s lips begin to tremble, and he knew immediately she thought the negative shake of his head had been aimed at her. Or more precisely, her appearance. Knowing he had to make it up to her, the words started tumbling out of his unguarded mouth.

“Damn, you’re beautiful.”

His expression, if not his words, apparently reassured her. A little.

“You really think so?” She tugged self-consciously at the hem of her dress that barely managed to cover all the essential parts. The length made him growl low in his throat. If she so much as moved the wrong way…

When she started to draw back, this time because of the growl, his hand shot forward, drawing her to him. “Yes. Yes, I really think so.”

His hand cupped her jaw, tilting her head up so she was forced to look into his eyes. He knew what she’d see. Those gold flames he couldn’t hide when his demon was out. When he was angry, or aroused. Right now he realized he was angry that he was aroused. Or was he angry he was aroused and couldn’t do anything about it?

“This has to be the most fucking ridiculous plan I’ve ever agreed to,” he breathed against her face.

“Why?” One of her small, creamy white hands came up and gripped his wrist. He noticed the contrast in the color of their skin and size of their bodies. He shivered at the rush of desire that flooded his body.

“Because I don’t want any other fucking man to see you like this, that’s why,” he growled out the words, bending his head to capture her lips in a kiss so damn hot it threatened to burn higher and hotter than the flames of hell. It wasn’t a hard kiss; though heaven help him, it was taking all his control not to inhale her lush lips and sweet mouth. He brushed his mouth over hers, tasting her top lip, and then her bottom one. Kissing the corners of her mouth, coaxing her to kiss him back. To open her mouth and invite him inside.

“Let me in, baby,” he whispered. She opened to him slowly, making his demon burn even more. “That’s it, just as a little bit more.” The end of his tongue licked along the barely opened seam of her mouth. “Fucking yes, that’s it.”

He thrust his tongue inside Clementine’s mouth as she opened to him fully. Her taste flooded his senses. She tasted so damn innocent, reminding him of sweet, ripe cherries. But as he kept sipping at her, the flavors deepened, fire mixing with the sweet. Burning him up. Setting him on fire.

He grabbed her to him, showing no finesse as he did. He just needed her close, as close as he could possibly get. He bumped his hips into hers, wanting her beneath him in his bed. Wanting her bent over the back of the couch as he thrust his cock into her from behind. Wanting her straddling him as they rocked in the easy chair. Wanting her on her knees, as he’d fancied time and time again, his hand gripping her hair as his cock plunged in and out of her pliant mouth, her wings fluttering with her own desire.

He wanted her. Period.

Clementine’s body turned to liquid as Remington whispered against her mouth, begging her to let him in. Let him taste her. As soon as she did, his mouth crashed down on hers, hard and furious. His lower body pressed against hers, his cock a hard ridge that fit perfectly against her groin. She bucked up, wanting to feel that strength. Without any thought, her arms encircled his neck, pulling him closer.

He tasted just like he should—a dark night filled with danger and excitement. It was not surprising how much she wanted to keep on tasting him, how much she wanted his hard, warm body pressed tighter and tighter against hers.

How much she wanted so much more.

He pulled away slightly, their breathing ragged, their lips wet. “Oh, baby, you taste so damn good.”

“So do you,” she whispered back. Their mouths merged again, and she opened hers for the thrust of his tongue. He explored her mouth, their tongues tangling, as they tasted each other. As the need intensified, grew to the point of bursting out of control, Clementine fought for her sanity.

This man just wants sex, she reminded herself harshly. He was a good-time demon. Yeah, his two other brothers had settled down, but not Remington. Remington was different. He had a darker, deeper soul. One that didn’t allow another inside.

She’d known that about him since the moment she’d met him. Knew there was no future with him. So what was wrong with that? Clementine kept up the mental argument she’d been having with herself the last year. Didn’t a woman need physical satisfaction, too? Wasn’t that why she’d finally started to accept dates when men asked her out? She had needs. Wants. Desires.

All those thoughts flew out of her mind when one of his hands started traveling up her body. Away from her hips and over the abundant skin of her stomach.

“Clementine.” He breathed her name as though he’d just unearthed a hidden treasure. “Baby.” Another deep, dark groan escaped him as he cupped the underside of her breast. His mouth left hers and traveled along her jaw and down her throat. His nose nudged against the low neckline of her dress and pushed aside the fabric as he trailed his wet mouth along her throat, seeking, seeking…

“Remington,” she murmured, so lost in his touch she wasn’t sure she could think straight. Her fingers threaded through his hair and for a moment, she wanted to pull him closer, bare her aching flesh to his touch, revel in the feel of the man she loved, loving her. “We can’t.”

For a moment, he kept caressing her, the heat of his mouth almost burning her skin.

“We can’t,” she whispered again.

He slowly raised his head. “Yes, we can.”

“N—”

He bent down, placing one last, hard, frustratingly short kiss on her needy mouth. “Yes, we can. More importantly, we will.” He pulled back, licking his lips as if he couldn’t get enough of her taste. “But first, we’re going to find this damn dark fae.”

CHAPTER FIVE

CLEMENTINE HAD NO
idea where they were. After they had broken apart from the kiss that had caused Clementine’s pussy to swell and weep with moisture, Remington had opened a portal and ushered her through it, keeping her close. One of his long hands had settled low on her hip and was still there as they walked through the crowd.

She was pretty sure they weren’t in the human realm anymore. There were too many supernatural beings walking around openly. Vamps, trolls, angels, fairies. While all three realms were aware of the others, sometimes humans took exception to some of the supernaturals. Seeing an ogre burp into his beer mug, she was pretty sure it wasn’t because of their appearance, but just their downright rudeness.

Remington led her to the bar and ordered two drinks. When the bartender left, she grabbed the collar of his shirt to bring his head down to hers. Even standing on tiptoes with her high heels, she still couldn’t reach his ear. Again, the feeling of rightness washed over her. “Why are we here?”

Not that she minded. As soon as she’d grabbed him, his thick arm had encircled her waist, pulling her close and she discovered that he was still aroused.

“I finally got a tip while you were getting ready. One of the other bounty hunters spotted him here earlier tonight.” His breath feathered across her ear, making her shiver. She swore she felt him grin against the lobe of her ear before he spoke again. “Does that arouse you, baby?”

She yelped when he bit down on the tender flesh, scraping his teeth along the edge before letting it go and straightening up. She clung to the collar of his shirt, not sure if her wobbly knees would hold her up. Clementine tried to ignore him, her gaze searching the crowd. Tried to ignore the heat radiating off his body like a mini sun. Tried to ignore everything about him, especially his mouth. Heavens, Remington was just too… powerfully male. He had hormones she didn’t even know she had heating up.

“Don’t look at me like that, Clementine. Not yet anyway,” he warned, his voice a deep rasp.

“Look at you how?”

“Like you want me to eat you up with a spoon.” He nudged her closer, letting their fronts bump. He took one foot and pushed her stance wider. Immediately she felt the edge of his dick against her clit. “I want that, too, baby,” he said as he rocked against her. “I want to make you so damn wet, and then I want to lick it up. Eat you out.”

“Remington,” she threw back her head, her dark head cascading down her back as she struggled to stay on her feet. “Please,” she begged.

“Soon.” He smoothed her hair back, giving her a gentle kiss on the forehead. “First, we’ve got to go get a fae.”

“What? He’s here.” That washed away some of her desire. Remington was looking over her head.

“Yep. He’s on the dance floor.” He looked down at her, a grin on his face. “What do you say we give the bastard something to be jealous of?” Without waiting for her answer, he was pulling her through the crowd to the middle of the dance floor.

Clementine’s body and confidence seized up when she found herself surrounded by writhing bodies. She’d never danced before, and she’d never been good in a crowd this size. Plus, the room was pulsating with sexual energy. Strike three for her. Well, maybe not, because she was sure she was contributing her fair share of that. She lifted one of her hands to fan her face, remembering Remington’s whispered words. Wow! Had he really said that to her? Her wet pussy said he had—and more importantly, it was telling her she would really, really like it.

If she could get over her inhibitions and nervousness of revealing her body to the red-hot demon.

“Come on, sweetheart, loosen up.” When Remington spoke behind her, she realized all she’d been doing was swaying to the music. Immediately, she felt the strength of his arms close around her, pulling her back against his body. She gasped when one of his thighs insinuated itself gently between her legs from behind. “That’s it, let me take you.”

And she did. She closed her eyes and allowed her body to follow Remington’s led. Soon, she was rolling her hips, and her hands were reaching up to encircle his neck from behind. He took advantage of her position and ran his hands over her torso, those large palms cupping her breasts. Her eyes popped open when he pinched her nipples before returning to their original position at her waist. “Remington.”

He bent his head, burying his face in the side of her throat. He bit into her flesh, and he sucked, long and hard. So long and hard, she knew she’d have a mark in the morning. His mark. She groaned and ground her ass back against his cock.

He thrust against her, his large hand splaying across the curve of her stomach. For once, she wasn’t even aware of how she might look to others. All that mattered was how good this man was making her feel. “He’s watching. Make it look good, baby.”

And with just those few words, her happiness burst like a bubble caught in the wind. They were faking it. All of it. To capture the dark fae’s attention. Sweet heavens, she needed to end this. Yes, she’d wanted to feel the pleasure of being in Remington’s arms, just once. But now she knew that would be too high of a price to pay. She swayed against him for a few more moments, her eyes trying to find the man who had started this. The glint of a flashing neon light caught the almost silvery glow of a man’s hair. She waited another moment, waited for another flash and then she knew it was him. As if he sensed her scrutiny, his gaze focused on her, and she gave him a smile. She’d hung around more than one succubus to know less was more. She held his gaze as she pressed back against Remington and allowed the sexual need to flow through her. She continued to smile at the dark fae, their gazes locked as if waiting for the other to blink.

It wasn’t going to be her. She had one shot at this. Again, she pressed back against Remington, and she felt his hands tighten on the breasts, his fingers move; involuntarily she was sure, to pinch her nipples between his thumb and finger.

The dark fae not only blinked, but it also looked as if he was about to cum in his pants.

Got you, Clementine thought to herself.

Before she lost her courage, she stepped away from Remington, catching him by surprise, no doubt thanks to the same sexy stupor that had overcome her as she’d moved against him. In seconds, she was lost in the crowd, hoping that both men would follow her.

Remington blinked furiously when Clementine disappeared in front of him. For a moment, he thought she’d portalled out, but then he realized she’d simply walked away. “Son of a bitch.” He lunged forward, but he already lost her in the crowd. His gaze zeroed in on where he’d last seen the dark fae. He was gone too. “Damn, fuck, shit.” He pulled his cell phone from his pocket.

“Do you have him in sight?” he’d called in a few favors when he’d set this up since his brothers weren’t available. Or should he say he didn’t want his brothers involved in this even though he trusted them with his life. And that of his mate.

Mates. The reason they were safely in the human realm. Both of his sisters-in-law were pregnant, and there was no way he was going to put his brothers at risk now.

“Yeah, he’s chasing a fine-looking piece of ass. Looks like he didn’t take the bait, dude.”

Remington growled low and deep. “That piece of ass is the bait. And she’s my mate!” Heads turned as he roared the words into his phone. “Now where are they?”

“Headed out the door.” Came the reply, making Remington’s demon push forward.

“Don’t let them leave.”

He rushed through the crowd as fast as he could. Finally, it thinned out, and he breathed a partial sigh of relief. He wouldn’t feel better until Clementine was back in his arms. Up ahead, he saw the sway of her round ass. Right behind her was the dark fae, the neon light glittering of his head. If he touched her…

A portal opened in front of Clementine. She screamed, unable to avoid it. The dark fae stumbled in after her. Remington lunged forward, just barely making it through as it closed. He grimaced as the edge of the portal tightened around him, almost cutting off his breath. Then, he was shot out of it like a bullet from a gun. He tumbled out, instantly recognizing the hard granite floor of hell. He stopped rolling and stood up with another grimace. Damn, that had hurt.

“Remington!” He jerked his head to the right at the sound of his name on Clementine’s lips. The dark fae held her by the throat, her arm twisted behind her.

“Let her go,” he ordered

“Not likely,” the dark fae responded.

Heavy footsteps sounded in the hallway before a looming black shadow appeared. All three of them turned, waiting. Remington wasn’t a bit surprised when Luc appeared in the doorway. “Greetings, greetings everyone. I’m glad you could make it.”

“What the hell is going on, Luc?” Remington kept one eye on the dark fae and one on his boss.

Luc tugged at the sleeves of his coat, before smoothing a hand down the front. He looked as if he was getting ready to step inside a boardroom, not roaming the halls of hell.

“Luc, I’m warning you, if he hurts one hair on Clementine’s head, you will pay.” Remington’s hands clenched into tight fists at his side.

“Well, that would be up to you, wouldn’t it?”

“What are you talking about?” Remington thought the man had actually lost his mind. He’d been playing with other’s fate for so long maybe he was beginning to think he was the Supreme Being.

Luc sighed. “Do I really need to explain this? You should know the drill by now. You need to prove that you are worthy of Clementine.”

“Listen, you little snake,” Remington started forward and found himself frozen in place.

“I have decided that you and the dark fae should fight for the fair maiden.”

His demon rose inside, stretching his muscles, preparing to launch itself at Luc. He concentrated on the energy surrounding him, drawing upon the gift he’d received from his mother. Angels were naturally somewhat resistant to the power of a demon. Something about keeping the balance of good and evil. Remington, however, had inherited a little more ‘oomph’. Add in the fact that he was determined to get to his mate, the love of his life, and he would soon be free of Luc’s hold.

“You want me to marry a man who abuses his children?” Clementine continued to twist in the fae’s arms.

“Oh, that. Well, that wasn’t really true. I confess I played on yours and Rachel’s soft heart. Those were just some imps wanting a little acting experience. It had to be believable so that Remington would agree to be your bodyguard.”

“Agree? You never gave him a choice.” There was indignation in Clementine’s voice, and Remington wanted more than anything to reassure her that he would always be there for her.

“He never really needed one.”

Suddenly, the vision Clementine had experienced when she’d met Remington was filling her mind. She was dressed in a long white dress blowing in the wind. This time, however, Remington wasn’t standing at the side watching as she walked towards a flower-covered altar. No, now he was lying on a cold granite floor covered in his own blood. And this time, Clementine saw the face of the man waiting to marry her. The dark fae.

“Remington,” she whispered, her face filled with anguish. She couldn’t let them do this. Couldn’t see him hurt. “Luc, you can’t do this.”

“Oh, but I can.”

“No, I’ll do anything you want. I’ll marry the dark fae. Right here and right now.” She didn’t hesitate. She’d suffer for eternity if it meant saving Remington.

Remington growled, long and deep as he continued to try and escape Luc’s hold.  He felt his vocal cords unthaw and bellowed, “There is no way in hell you’re marrying some other man, Clementine.”

“I see your vision has returned.” Luc continued to converse with Clementine as if Remington had never spoken.

He cursed again, trying desperately to free his arms and then his legs. “What vision?” Maybe if he kept them talking, Luc wouldn’t realize he was breaking free.

“Didn’t she tell you?”

“Tell me what?”

“Well, when Clementine first met you, she had a vision about you.”

“So?” He’d had quite a few fantasies of his own about her.

“This one showed her marrying another man. While you watched, seemingly uncaring that she was.”

Remington’s gaze flew to Clementine. “Is that true?”

She nodded her head slowly. “I knew you didn’t want me. Never really would.”

Remington’s demon went own full-blown alert. Before he could say anything, the granite walls begin to shift. Once the walls stopped moving, a large boxing ring appeared in the middle. The dark fae materialized inside, dressed in black silk shorts, his hands taped. He looked like an MMA fighter.

Before he could form another thought, Remington found himself in the ring, his attire now a mirror image of the dark fae’s. The other man started circling him, and Remington knew the fight was on. Luc popped into the ring. “And now ladies and gentlemen. Oh, wait, we have no audience.”

Remington shouldn’t have been surprised at Luc’s showmanship. With a flick of his hand, the other man opened a portal and out poured his family. Rafe and Julie, Roark and Kayley, his father and mother, and Kayley’s father, Ephraim. Another flash and Kayley’s mother along with her two sisters and their husbands appeared.
