Authors: A Dedicated Scoundrel
He took Catherine’s hand in his. “In the meantime, my wound is paining me dreadfully, Nurse. I think you had better see to it immediately.”
Pausing only to press his lips to Catherine’s for the briefest of kisses, Lord Justin Belforte, former spy and master of skullduggery, led his true love from the room.

Author’s Note: There really was a bridge at Huerta. After the Battle of Salamanca, Wellington was much concerned over the problem of escaping French soldiers, and he became enraged at the news that the Spanish officer whose unit was guarding the bridge, took it upon himself to order it abandoned. Uncounted would-be prisoners of war made their way to safety over the bridge. There were no fugitive generals among them (although one did escape earlier, assisted by two British officers). Rivenchy, and the plot to help him to freedom, is solely an embroidery on the facts. The author feels this is what writers of romance fiction are for, after all.
