Right arm opens in 2nd position through preparatory, left one goes up into 3rd position. Lower yourself in demi-plié on left leg. This movement may also be done with a jump, following the same rules.

GRAND FOUETTÉ EN TOURNANT

En dedans.
This kind is more often used than en dehors. Stand in pose croisé front, left leg front, coupé and demi-plié on left leg; spring onto half-toe and thrust out right leg into 2nd position to 90° with a grand battement jeté, opening arms into 2nd position. Lower yourself on left leg in demi-plié, turning en dedans, and gliding it on the floor close to the supporting leg, thrust right leg forward with a battement to 90° in the direction of point 6; rise on half-toe, bend body backward and complete the turn en dedans, holding the right leg at the same height, conclude the movement with a 3rd arabesque in demi-plié. It may also be finished in 1st arabesque.

When the leg moves forward, the arms move through preparatory position up into 3rd position, and finish in arabesque.

En dehors.
Pose croisé, left leg back, coupé, demi-plié on left leg, thrust out right leg into 2nd position at 90°, rise on half-toe of left leg; open arms in 2nd position, thrust right leg through 1st position on the floor into 3rd arabesque in demi-plié, carrying the arms through the preparatory position also into 3rd arabesque. Turn en dehors on half-toe in croisé front at 90°, giving the arms the required pose.

118. Grand fouetté en tournant

GRAND FOUETTÉ EN TOURNANT SAUTÉ

The same movement can be done with a jump. We begin the same way, and after demi-plié on the left leg, the right leg is thrust out into 2nd position; the left one tears itself away from the floor in a jump, while the right one is thrust out in the described manner. The turn is also done in the air, during the jump with the left leg.
