Chapter Eleven

Big was posted at his bar enjoying a game of pool with Kiyan and Dinero. They were catching up with each other since they’d all been busy that week. Keece and Case were stuck at their tattoo shop working.  Big took a sip of his drink and then began to chalk up his pool stick.

“Aye, Dinero, what's up with you and Asia?” Big asked.

Dinero shook his head with a smile on his face. “Man, I ain't fucking with that bitch no more.”

“Why not?” Kiyan asked.

“Man, her pussy almost had me at the bank about to write her ass a check. I can’t fuck with it,” Dinero joked.

Big and Kiyan looked at each other and busted out laughing. Dinero tried his hardest to hold in his laughter, but he failed.

Big held his stomach, trying to gather his words. “Wait a minute. You gotta tell us what happened.”

“Bro, I just told you. Her pussy turned me into a one minute nigga. Fuck her and her tight-ass walls,” Dinero ranted.

Kiyan laughed. “That’s the kinda of girl you’re supposed to keep around. What the fuck wrong with you?”

Dinero shook his head. “Nah, I don’t want to fuck around with her. I don’t like the way she be making me feel.”

“You like her, don’t you?” Big asked amused.

“Hell nah,” Dinero lied.

Kiyan smirked. “Nah, nigga, you like her for real. And the fact that her pussy was A-1 was the icing on the cake. Asia has turned my brother out!” he laughed as he shook hands with Big.

“Man, hell nah. I ain't fallin’ for any of these bitches in the Mil.”

“Except for
Asia
,” Big teased.

“Look, ain't nothing wrong with getting a chick that’s down for you. Eventually, you gon’ want somebody to come home to,” Kiyan said.

Dinero twisted his face. “No, I’m not, bro,” he argued.

Kiyan waved his hand at him. “Whatever.”

Big looked at his watch and noticed that it was almost time for him to meet Tara. He had asked her if they could meet so they could talk, and she’d surprisingly agreed. Big was preparing to come at Tara in a different way other than yelling at her. He wanted them to really talk like two mature adults so he would be able to see his daughter without a hassle.

“Aye, I gotta go meet Tara soon. I’ll get up with y’all later,” Big announced and gave his brothers a handshake.

“You got your pistol with you?” Dinero joked.

Big laughed. “I don’t think I’ll need it tonight.”

Shiiit
! With Tara, you should have a warehouse of weapons with you,” Kiyan kidded.

“That’s true, but I’m trying to talk to her on some chill shit. If I call y’all to come bail me out, then you'll know how the talk went,” Big joked.

Big walked out and got inside of his car. Since he was near Bayshore Mall, he decided to meet Tara at Devon’s Seafood and Steak Restaurant. He parked and got out. Big walked inside and was seated right away. He alerted the hostess that he was expecting a guest. After ten minutes of waiting, Tara finally strolled in dressed casually in a white v-neck shirt and ripped jeans. The hostess escorted her to the table where Big sat quietly. He looked at her intently, trying to figure out what kind of mood she was in. She sat with a blank look on her face as she looked at the menu.

“So I brought you here so we can talk and maybe settle our differences,” Big said, breaking the silence.

Tara looked up and him and sighed. She really wasn’t looking forward to meeting Big, but she didn’t want to pass up an opportunity to spend time with him alone..

“What differences do we have? You hate me and I don’t understand why. I gave birth to your daughter and you treat me like shit,” she calmly said.

Big looked at her like she was crazy, but he quickly straightened his face. He’d promised himself that he wouldn’t let Tara bring him to anger.

“So do you think that keeping Zaria away from me is right?”

Tara crossed her arms. “Yes, especially when you do shit that I don’t like such as having a bitch that I don’t even know around my kid. Do you think that shit was right?”

“Aye, calm down,” Big said calmly. “If I had let you meet Aimee
first
, would that have honestly made you feel better?”

Tara sat in thought for a moment. “No, because I still wouldn’t have like that hoe. How come it’s so easy for you to move on? Why won’t you work on our family again?”

“What family?
You
broke up our family, not me.”

Tears began to form in Tara eyes as Big brought up her cheating act. “No, you broke us up when you were texting another female!” she yelled.

Big looked around and noticed that a couple of patrons were looking at them. “Aye, calm your ass down for real,” he warned her.

Tara grabbed the napkin and wiped away a tear. “Why don’t you want me anymore? I told you I was sorry.”

Big sat back in his seat and sighed. He was tired of Tara bringing up the same old shit. Being in a relationship with Tara was something Big would never attempt again.

“I don’t care about that shit no more, Tara. I didn’t bring you here for that. I brought you here so we could come up with some type of arrangement for Zaria,” he stressed.

Tara quickly turned her face into a mean scowl. “I don’t feel comfortable with Zaria being around that Aimee hoe. How long have y’all been together?” she pried.

Big rolled his eyes. “None of your business. Do you really think I’ll have someone around my daughter that I didn’t trust?”

“I don’t know, but I don’t like the bitch. Therefore, you can only see Zaria at my house.”

“Are you serious?” he gritted through his teeth.

“Yes. That bitch hit me in my eye. There’s no telling what she’ll do to Zaria, and I’m not taking any chances.”

“But didn’t you push Aimee first?” he questioned.

“No, I didn’t,” Tara lied.

Big nodded his head. He’d had enough with her games and decided at that very second that he was going to take her to court. He’d avoided it for years, but there was no way around it now.

He threw his napkin on the table and reached inside of his pocket for money. Big tossed a couple of bills on the table and left without saying a word. He couldn’t wait to call his lawyer the following day so he could file for joint custody.

Aimee and Asia sat in their mother’s room as she went through her old clothes. Jovelyn had requested that they come and help her sort through some old clothes that she planned to donate to Goodwill. Although the twins had moaned and groaned, they would never pass up a moment to spend time with their mother.

Aimee stuffed some clothes that were on the floor into a garbage bag while Asia sorted clothes that were on the bed.

“Asia, make sure you don’t put my boots into the bag! Those are to stay!” Jovelyn yelled from the closet.

Asia twisted her face and picked up the boots. “These boots are ugly as fuck. Why does she want to keep them?” she whispered to Aimee.

“I heard that! Watch your language, little girl!” Jovelyn warned.

Aimee pointed and giggled at Asia who rolled her eyes at her. Jovelyn finally emerged from the closet with a multi-colored jacket. “Do one of y’all want this? It’s fly, don’t you think?”

Aimee and Asia looked at each other and busted out laughing. Jovelyn pursed her lips at their silliness and waved her hand dismissively.

“Ma, that jacket might have been fly in the eighties, but it’s ugly as hell now,” Asia said, laughing.

“Mama, you’re trying to get us talked about,” Aimee said as she gave Asia a high five.

Jovelyn rolled her eyes. “Don’t hate ‘cause I was fly back in the day.”

“You sure was, Ma,” Asia said sarcastically.

“Oh, sis, what happened between you and Dinero?” Aimee asked as she folded clothes.

Asia sat next to Aimee making sure to speak in a low voice. “Girl, I think I turned his fine ass out. He got up in the cat and didn’t know what to do. He couldn’t handle this good pussy.”

Aimee rolled her eyes. “Girl, please, but continue.”

“Like I was saying, the nigga kept stopping because he was about to nut, so I had to take control and get on top. Girl, he has not answered my texts or phone calls. Dinero is running from your girl,” Asia said, laughing.

Aimee was shocked because she just knew Dinero would never fall for her sister. “Wow, I’m like really shocked right now.”

“I was too, but to be honest, I kinda like his rude ass, though,” Asia admitted.

Aimee excitedly pointed in her face. “See? I told you he might turn the tables on you.”

Asia shook her head. “No, no, it’s not like that.”

“Yes, it is. Don’t deny it, girlfriend.”

Their father interrupted their chat. He had just come in from work, looking tired.

“Damn, what the hell is going on in here? Hell, I wanna lie down,” he complained as he kicked off his shoes.

“Mama got us in here trying to get rid of her old clothes,” Aimee told him.

“Oh, stop your complaining. You can still lie down,” Jovelyn said.

Russell walked over to the bed and shoved the clothes off of his side of the bed. He lay down and got comfortable. Asia got up and walked over to his side of the bed. “Daddy, what's up with your platinum card, G?”

With his eyes still closed he said, “Ain’t shit up with it. Now get your ass out of my face, G.”

Aimee laughed at Asia who had a twisted look on her face.

“Damn, Daddy, you’re always acting stingy with your credit card,” she huffed.

“You should ask your sister for hers. She’s the one driving around town in a Porsche.”

Asia immediately looked over at Aimee with a shocked look plastered on her face. “Where did you get a Porsche from?”

Aimee smiled. “From Big.”

“That nigga bought you a Porsche?” Asia asked incredulously.

“No. He gave it to me since he didn’t drive it.”

Asia gave her a weird look. “Maybe I should keep Dinero around then. Didn’t you say they had money?”

Aimee nodded. “They all got dough.”

“Yep, I’ll keep on working on my li’l new boo, Dinero,” Asia said and started twerking.

“Asia, don’t be a gold digger,” Russell spat.

“Nah, Daddy, she likes him for real. Don’t let her fool you.”

“Whatever. Let me hurry up ‘cause I ain't feeling all of the heat in this room,” Asia kidded.

After two more hours of sorting through clothes, the twins finally finished. Since they had worked up an appetite, they decided to go out to eat with their mother. They always had a good time whenever the three of them hung out. They were very much mama’s girls and wouldn’t know what to do without her.

Chapter Twelve

Tara sat in her living room doing her cousin, Meka’s, makeup. Meka was going out to the club and requested that Tara beat her face. Tara was filling her in on her last encounter with Big. It had been almost two weeks since she’d heard from Big, and Tara had found it quite odd. He had gone from calling her every day, asking to see Zaria, to no contact at all.

“So did he say anything before he left?” Meka asked her.

Tara picked up some concealer and dabbed it on her face. “No. He said nothing. Girl, he looked so fuckin’ mad. That’s what his ass gets too,” she said gleefully

Meka shook her head. “Girl, you need to stop being so mean.”

Tara smacked her lips. “Girl, fuck Big. He shouldn’t have had that bitch around my baby. I don’t even know what he sees in the tight-eyed bitch. I look way better than her.”

“So you're really not going to let him see Zaria? I know she probably misses her daddy,” Meka reasoned.

“Whose side are you on?”

“Look, you know that I’m down for you, but you don’t play with a man about his kids.”

Tara rolled her eyes. “Meka, you don’t have any children so you wouldn’t understand. Since you're all up in my business, you need to help me get some information on this Aimee hoe.”

Meka shrugged. “Whatever, Tara.”

“You know who I should call?
Danica
. I know she knows something. Hold on.”

Tara went to grab her phone and dialed Danica’s number. She and Danica had never gotten along, but that wouldn’t stop Tara from trying to get information. She held the phone between her shoulder and ear as she waited for Danica to answer.

“Hello?”

“Hey, Danica, it’s Tara. How are you?” Tara asked in her fake tone.

“I’m good, Tara,” Danica replied dryly.

“So how is school?”

“Tara, you don’t give a damn about how I’m doing in school. Now what the fuck do you want?” Danica snapped.

Tara rolled her eyes, pissed that Danica had just called her out. “Look I need some information on the bitch that Big is with. What do you know about her?”

“I don’t know shit! Don’t call trying to get into my brother’s business when your ass wouldn’t even let us come to Zaria’s birthday party! Fuck you!” Danica yelled and hung up.

Tara looked at her phone, appalled that Danica had hung up on her. Yes, it was true that they didn’t fuck with each other, but she didn’t expect Danica to hang up in her face.

“That rude bitch hung up on me,” Tara spat.

Meka laughed. “Girl, what did you expect? Did you think she was going to invite you over for tea and crumpets?”

“Fuck that angry bitch.”

“Look at the pot calling the kettle black,” Meka said with a raised brow.

Tara smacked her lips. “I'm angry for a reason, though. That trick ain't got no reason why she’s such a bitch.”

Before Meka could respond, Tara’s doorbell rang. She wondered who it could be because she wasn’t expecting anyone. Tara walked over and opened the door and was surprised to see a sheriff’s deputy.

“How can I help you?” Tara asked, feeling her blood pressure rise.

“Are you Tara Cook?”

“Yes, I am.”

“You’ve been served,” he said before handing her an envelope and walking away.

Tara shut the door and opened the envelope. Her mouth dropped as she read the documents.

“What is it?” Meka asked as she walked over to her.

“This bitch is taking me to court for custody! Let me call his bitch ass,” Tara barked as she grabbed her phone.

She dialed Big’s number where it instantly went to his voicemail. Tara never left voicemail messages, but this day she would. “Yeah, so you think you're about to take my baby from me! Let me tell you that you're sadly mistaken! Since you wanna go this route, you'll never see Zaria again, you black bitch! Don’t even try to call me and see her. Fuck you and your life hoe!”

Tara hung up the phone with her adrenaline at an all-time high. Although she was angry, she was also fearful. Big had way more money than she did, and she was scared that he might actually gain custody of Zaria.

****

Asia sat inside of her car and killed the engine. She was parked in front of Dinero’s car wash, wondering if she should go inside. It had been weeks since their sexual encounter, and she hadn't heard much from him. He had sent her a text here and there, but it was nothing like before. Since Aimee had told Asia the address of his car wash, she decided to pay him an impromptu visit. Asia made sure her hair and face were up to par before getting out of her car. Asia strutted inside of the office and was greeted by two girls.

“What’s up? How can we help you?” one of the girls asked.

“Hi. I was wondering if Dinero was available,” Asia said.

The other girl looked at Asia and said, “Yeah, he is. Wait here.” She walked off.

“How do you know Dinero?” the first girl questioned.

“He’s just a friend.”

Seconds later, Dinero emerged, looking good enough to eat. His dreads were pulled back. His fresh lining framed his face perfectly. His full kissable lips were on display, begging Asia to devour them. He wore a fresh black t-shirt with some Robin jeans and black retro Jordan’s. Asia unconsciously bit her lip at the sight of him.

With a curious look painted on his face he asked, “What you doin’ up here?”

“I came to see you. Is that a problem?”

Dinero chuckled and shook his head. He waved his hand, gesturing for her to follow him back to his office. Asia followed him, loving the way he walked. She took a seat on the sofa while Dinero sat on top of his desk. He looked at her, waiting for her to tell him what she wanted.

“Now why have you been running from me?” she asked.

Dinero smiled. “Man, I ain't been running from your ass.”

“So why don’t you answer when I call you or why do you respond with those one-word texts?”

Dinero shrugged. “Maybe ‘cause I’m a busy nigga, Asia. I've told you already, Judge Judy, I don’t like answering questions.”

Asia smirked and walked over to him. “I know when somebody is running from me. What are you scared of?” she asked as she rubbed her hand down the side of his face.

“You really think you the shit, huh? Well, let me inform you that you're not.”

“It’s not that. I just don’t like being ignored,” she said and kissed his lips.

After their kiss, Dinero started laughing. “Man, Asia you gotta stay away from me. You got me kissing and shit like a sucka-ass nigga.”

“You didn’t have a problem kissing me when you were deep inside of me.”

Dinero waved his hand, got up, and walked behind his desk to sit in his chair. He needed some distance between them. “That’s old news. Talk about some relevant shit.”

Asia smiled. “Come and take me to get something to eat.”

Dinero sucked his teeth. “I don’t go on dates.”

“It won’t be a date. It’ll be two people who like each other going to get something to eat.” She laughed because she knew something crazy was about to come out of his mouth.

“I don’t like your shrimp fried rice-eatin’ ass,” he hissed.

Asia busted out laughing. “Negro, I don’t eat shrimp fried rice. And if you're referring to my ethnic background, I’m half
Filipino
and not Chinese.”

“Oh, my bad. Man, Asia where are you trying to go eat? You poppin’ up like I ain't got shit to do,” he huffed as he grabbed his keys.

“Stop frontin’. You know you wanna hang with me. We don’t have to go anywhere fancy. I kinda got a taste for some Popeye’s.”

Dinero rolled his eyes. “You're bothering me for some damn
Popeye’s
? Bring your ass on.”

Asia hopped up and followed him outside to his ride. She stood on the passenger’s side and waited for him to open the door for her. When he went straight to his side, she asked, “You're not going to open the door for me?”

Dinero twisted his face. “Yeah, I got you.” He hit the unlock switch on his door and then hopped in.

Asia shook her head and chuckled. She opened the door and got inside. “You're rude as hell. Didn’t your mother teach you how to treat a woman?”

“Nope,” he said as he started his car.

They drove to the nearest Popeye’s, bumping Fabian's mix tape the entire way there. Dinero pulled up to the drive-thru and requested their orders. After grabbing the food, Asia told him to pull into a nearby parking spot so they could eat in the car.

“How you know I want you to eat in my car?” Dinero asked with a side eye.

“Nigga ain't nobody gon’ mess up this weak-ass car,” she spat before biting into a biscuit.

“I’ma have to tame your mouth. You must think I'm one of these lame niggas you used to fuckin’ with.”

“I forgot you were Dinero DeMao a.k.a. Rude Boy,” she said sarcastically.

“You better act like you know it. So what's up, Asia? I know you
think
I like you, but you gotta be feeling the kid too.”

“How’d you figure that?”

“’Cause even though I didn’t dick you down like I was supposed to, you still been hittin’ my line. And you just popped up at my place of business,” he said and then took a sip of his soda.

“Well, unlike you, I'm willing to tell the truth. I do like you, Dinero, but I’m not about to chase your difficult ass.”

“Who said you had to chase me?”

“Um, I had to pop up at your business just to talk to your goofy ass. You don’t need to run from me, Dinero. We can be friends. I'm not trying to force a relationship on you or nothing like that.”

Dinero nodded his head. Truth be told, Asia had been on his mind heavily for the past couple of weeks. There was something different about her because no other woman had invaded his thoughts like she had. Being in a relationship came naturally for his brothers, but it was never that easy for Dinero. The feeling of wanting someone was foreign to him, and it had caused him to shut Asia out. When she showed up at his car wash, he was flattered that she’d gone out of her way to talk to him. Dinero didn’t know how to let his guard down for Asia, but at the same time he didn’t want to hurt her feelings either.

“So, you gonna be my friend or what?” Asia asked, breaking him from his thoughts.

Dinero looked over at her. “What's in it for me if I agree to it?”

“It’s a surprise.”

Dinero smacked his lips. “Get the fuck outta here.”

“I’m just playing, but for real, give me a kiss,” Asia requested and puckered her lips.

Dinero shook his head. “I told your tight-eyed ass that I don’t kiss.”

Asia grabbed his face and gave him a juicy kiss with a little tongue. She pulled back with a smile on her face. “Next time, just do what I ask.”

Dinero looked at her then looked away.
This bitch got me feeling butterflies and shit. I don’t wanna be around her sexy ass
,
he said to himself. Dinero and Asia continued to talk and eat inside of the car. He figured it wouldn’t hurt to be friends with her. He would just have to make sure that his feelings for her didn’t grow deeper because he didn’t want to be in a relationship.

Chapter Thirteen

The DeMao brothers sat in their father’s house as they waited for him to come downstairs. Dom had summoned all of them over to his place without any explanation. Kiyan grabbed the remote control from the coffee table and turned on the TV. He flipped through the channels until he landed on NBA TV. Big’s phone vibrated in his pocket. He looked and saw that Tara had left him another voicemail.

“Aye, y’all know the sheriff’s department served Tara papers, right? That bitch has called me so many times since then that I had to block her dumb ass, but you know you can still get voicemails. She just left me one.”

Keece snorted. “Good. That ignorant bitch knows what time it is with her stupid ass.”

“So you're tryin’ to get
full
custody?” Case asked.

Big shook his head. “Nah, man. I just want joint custody. I want to see Zaria at least three days a week. Plus, I want an equal say in all educational, health, and social decisions regarding her.”

“Tara don’t even know what's about to happen. Not only will she no longer have control, but the money you were giving her for child support is about to go down,” Kiyan added.

“Hell yeah because I’m only going to report my income from the bar. They won’t even know anything about the rest of my money.”

Dinero laughed. “Yeah! Fuck her stupid ass up!” he urged.

Dom finally walked into the room, dressed casually in a gray jogging suit. His low fade had begun to sprout grey hairs with his goatee lined to perfection.

“What's going on?” he asked, greeting them all with a hug.

He sat down in the recliner and kicked his feet up. He was finally enjoying life after his divorce from his ex-wife, Celine. He had been married to her for over twenty years before he found out that their union had been built on a lie. After Celine confessed to sending Keece, Kiyan, and Dinero’s mother, Rochelle, away, Dom decided to sever his ties with Celine. Their son, Case, was the only way they had any form of communication between them. And because he was now an adult, their contact was very limited. .
