“You think it’s a good idea for a pregnant woman to be drinking all that coffee?” he whispered in her ear.

“What? How did you—” She turned and gave him her best annoyed face. “That was a surprise. I was going to tell you tonight with a special cupcake that had a tiny plastic baby in it. I had Callie make it.”

He chuckled and kissed her nose. “Babe, do you think I didn’t notice these right away?” He gently cupped her breasts in his hands. “These have pregnant written all over them. I love it. But I’ll still take that cupcake, even with a creepy baby stuffed inside.”

She couldn’t help grinning as she slapped his hands off her breasts. He grabbed them again and she laughed. “Stop it.”

He kissed her lips and she lost herself in him, as she always did. She finally pulled away and stared up at him.

“Are you happy that we’re going to have another one? I mean, Brett is a lot of work, and I know—”

He shushed her with a finger on her lips. “You think I don’t know exactly what I’m doing when I make love to you? Making babies with you is my favorite pastime. Of course I’m happy.”

A startled cry interrupted their tender moment, and he gave her a wicked grin. “On that note, it’s your turn. I changed the most horrific diaper you ever saw this morning.”

She rolled her eyes and gave him a quick kiss before she went out into the living room to find Brett sitting up in his bed wailing. She picked him up and he instantly quieted as she patted his back and whispered sweet nothings in his ear.

She turned to find Alex leaning on the doorjamb to the kitchen. She smiled at him. “What?”

“Nothin’, I just love watching you be a mother to my son. Who would have thought, me and little Brooke Abbott? That night I snuck in your window, I never would have guessed I’d be knocking you up some day. Not once, but twice. And I’m pretty sure I’ll want to do it again.”

“My goodness, you’re very sure of yourself.” She turned her head and considered his words. “You remember that night?”

“Of course I remember that night, you were all cute and sleepy, your room covered with ’N Sync posters. I won’t give my opinion on that though.”

“I’d appreciate that. I
was
thirteen.”

“Yep, and I was a troublemaking little shit.”

“That is true, and I had the biggest crush on you.”

With a grin he pushed off the wall and made his way over to her. When he got close, Brett held his hands out and Alex took him into his big muscular arms. Who could blame the kid, the man was very appealing. Big, warm, and safe. She put her arms around both of them and laid her head on Alex’s chest.

“Let’s hope this little guy is nothing like you when he’s a teenager,” she said. “I don’t think I could handle it.”

She felt his warm chest move beneath her as he laughed. “Being bad was fun. But this”—he placed a kiss on her head, just like he had all those years ago—“this is what I was born to do.”
