Authors: Raven K. Asher
“So, have the two new alphas been kind to you since they’ve arrived? Do you think either of them might catch your attention?” My father then questions changing the subject.
“They have been very nice, especially Emmett. Ford is a bit strange though.” I reply honestly.
There was no reason to hide anything from my father.
He couldn’t force me into anything.
Not when I had a pack behind me, and he knew I was too fragile.
“Ford is definitely different.” My father chuckles lightly. “But that’s expected from someone from the Laken Pack.”
He then sighs as he gets serious. “I’m glad that you seem to be getting along with Emmett but just be careful around him.”
“Why do I need to be careful?” I ask with a raised brow.
“For the past ten years we have been under the impression that the Draco Pack was dead. For one of them to show up out of nowhere has every one of the packs frenzied. The Draco Pack was one of the strongest packs alive. The fact that they have survived without detection scares us all.” He explains.
Leaning forward, I lower my voice. “Do you need me to see what kind of information I can get out of him about his pack?”
“I can’t ask that of you, Parker.” He replies with a shake of his head.
“I won’t place myself into danger.” I promise.
“Don’t push for answers, just let him reveal them to you, okay.” He gives in.
I nod my head. “I’ll be careful, Dad.”
Standing to my feet I move towards the door.
I stop with my hand on the knob when my father begins to speak.
“Parker, I thought you’d like to know that Titus is going to train Blue as quickly as he can. He’s hoping to have Blue back here soon to have a chance at being your mate.” He explains quickly.
“Titus knows how you feel about him.” He adds softly.
I nod my head once without glancing back before turning the handle and walking out into the hallway.
I turn to go to my room but I slam into a hard chest.
Above me Emmett laughs as he holds me steady. “We have got to stop running into each other like this.”
I chuckle and shake my head. “Yes, we do, but I’m glad I ran into you.”
“You are, are you?” Emmett snorts.
I nod my head as I look up into his eyes. “I figured we could talk and get to know each other better.”
“That sounds good but first I need to talk with your father, okay.” He replies.
“Okay, I’ll be around here somewhere when you’re ready to talk.” I nod.
“I’ll find you.” Emmett promises before moving to knock on the door of my father’s office.
Watching him walk in I sigh when the door closes.
I had been slightly disappointed that I hadn’t been able to talk to him now. I was dying to know what his story was.
Finding out how he dealt with his tragedy hopefully would give me some ideas on how to deal with mine.
But then again I did want to know him and who he was.
I couldn’t ignore the pull he had on me.
Maybe he was the one I could fall in love with and move on with.
A
soft touch to my cheek makes me grin as I stretch out over my bed.
That is until I realize that I should have been alone.
My eyes fly open wide and I sit up in my bed alarmed until I see Emmett sitting on the edge with a bright smile across his face.
“I didn’t mean to scare you.” He states.
“You didn’t scare me. I just didn’t expect anyone to come into my room.” I lie.
Emmett smirks. “Your door was open slightly and you did tell me to find you when I was finished talking with your father. I couldn’t help that you’re so beautiful when you sleep.”
My face heats as I snort. “You sure are a sweet talker, aren’t you?”
“Some girls have said that, but not many. Most have seen my bad side.” Emmett replies.
I raise my brow as I study him. “I can’t believe that you have a bad side.”
“Then you haven’t heard of the Draco temperament. We can be extreme with our emotions. When we’re sad we fall into a pit of despair. When we’re happy it feels as if we are on the top of the world. But make us angry and you will feel our wrath ten-fold.” He explains.
It almost felt like the last part had been a threat.
“Then remind me never to get you mad.” I joke.
Pushing my hair behind my ear Emmett smiles sweetly. “You could never make me angry, Parker.”
A sudden knock on my door interrupts us just before Dillon walks in.
His brow rises as he glances between me and Emmett. “I’m sorry, Parker. I didn’t know you had someone in here with you.”
“Is everything alright?”
He questions worried inside of my head.
Before I can even answer Emmett jumps up from the edge of my bed and stalks towards Dillon before getting directly into his face. “What is a second doing coming into his alpha’s room?
“You didn’t even wait for her to give permission to enter her room.” Emmett snarls.
“Just stand still, Dillon.”
I command in his head.
He gives a slight nod as he bows his head away from Emmett to show his submission to an alpha.
“He came in because I let him.” I state as I move next to Emmett.
I motion towards my head. “He asked for permission.”
Emmett doesn’t move as he continues to stare Dillon down. “Next time I want to hear you give permission. He will not be tolerated barging into a room unannounced.”
Not having any of this I grab hold of Emmett’s chin and force him to look at me. “You will not give any member of my pack commands. They take commands from me only until I pick a mate.” I growl.
Glaring into my eyes Emmett bares his teeth to me before closing his eyes.
“Leave now, Dillon. I will take care of this and we can talk later.”
I order gently into Dillon’s mind as I glance over to him.
“Will you be alright?”
He questions into my mind.
“I will be fine.”
I reply.
He nods and the turns reluctantly to leave.
Once he’s out the door and it shuts Emmett opens his eyes.
He shakes my hand off of his chin and then proceeds to grab my hips roughly. “You will not undermine me like that again, not in front of a beta wolf.”
I growl. “And you will never treat me like this again if you want to be chosen. I will not tolerate a controlling mate.”
With a low snarl Emmett’s eyes heat and before I know what’s happening he has my back pinned against the wall as his teeth nip at my neck.
The whole situation had flipped around in a matter of seconds.
And I wasn’t exactly angry about it.
His body holding mine felt good.
He was everything opposite of what Gage had been and it set my body on fire for him.
It wasn’t love, it was a need and want that I longed for in order to forget everything that weighed me down day after day.
I longed for that bliss.
And as my mind gets swept away with the fire I allow myself to be free.
It didn’t matter now who I was with.
It had only mattered when I had been paired with a mate the first time and London had messed that up.
So, right here right now I figured there would be no harm.
My hands grasp at Emmett’s clothes as his lips trail down my neck.
I moan softly for him as his hands begin moving just under my shirt.
We both freeze in place when my door opens.
Emmett sniffs the air ready for a fight but pauses to look at me in question. “A human is here?” He whispers.
Peeking over his shoulder I spot Ariel.
“I’m so sorry, Parker. I knocked but no one answered. I thought something was wrong.” Ariel apologizes quickly.
“It’s alright, Ariel, you don’t have to be sorry.” I reassure.
Placing me on the floor again Emmett schools his features before turning to face Ariel.
She blushes and bows her head. “Harley sent me up to see if you wanted to watch a movie with us in the theater room.”
“Yeah, I’ll be down in a minute. I just have to…” I trail off not knowing what to say.
“We’ll be down.” Emmett repeats softly.
Ariel nods and then nearly rushes out of the room.
Emmett turns to me with a questioning look.
“I have human friends.” I sigh. “It’s a long story that I promise to tell you someday.”
He grins and nods his head. “Yes, you will. I have a feeling you have a lot of surprises up your sleeves.”
“You don’t even know the half of it.” I snort.
“Do you want to watch the movie or would you rather finish what we started?” Emmett questions with a cocky smirk.
I place my hand against his chest and rub it up and down across his smooth muscles. “As much as I want to finish what we started my friends will continue to interrupt us until I join them.”
“Then we’ll watch a movie.” Emmett sighs.
I grin. “We can still finish this when it’s over.”
Emmett snorts as he leans in for a tender kiss. “I like the way you think.”
“Go ahead and save me a seat. I’m just going to use the bathroom for a moment before I join you, okay.” I state.
He nods. “Where exactly is this theater room?”
“It’s past my father’s office.” I answer.
Leaning in for one more kiss Emmett leaves me alone in my room.
I run my hands through my hair as I let out a long breath. I couldn’t believe what I had almost done with Emmett.
I had only just met him to boot.
Still I wanted him, every inch of him.
My skin ached for his touch again.
I swear I was going mad. This wasn’t like me at all. I was never the one to just throw myself at someone just for pleasure.
But right now that’s all I wanted, I wanted to get lost.
After a moment I turn to leave my room but come face to face with Ford.
He eyes dart around the room before landing on me. “You need to be careful around him, you know.”
“Who, who should I be careful around?” I ask playing the part of being clueless.
“You know who. He thinks he’s being smart but I see right through him. He’s a dangerous wolf, Parker, and you need to watch your back around him.” Ford replies.
“He seems fine to me, Ford.” I sigh.
“Think about it for a minute. How does someone from a pack that has been proven dead suddenly just appear out of thin air? The Draco Pack was destroyed by the Hunters. They wouldn’t have left a single one of the wolves alive.” Ford explains.
“It’s possible though that a few of them stayed hidden and survived.” I argue.
He shrugs. “It’s possible but if I was you I’d watch my back. You’re a very valuable wolf, Parker. There are a lot of packs and people who would love to get their hands on you.”
“Why are you telling me this?” I ask next.
He shrugs again. “An alpha should always have someone to watch their back for them. That’s how my pack has survived for as long as it has. We are always alert and ready for anything.”
“Well, thank you for watching my back but I think I can handle things if they go badly.” I reply confidently.
He sighs roughly and rubs the back of his neck. “I sure hope things don’t go badly for you. You are too beautiful of a soul to lose.”
I smile. “Thank you, Ford.”
He grins. “You’re welcome, Parker.”
Leaning in I give him a quick kiss on his cheek.
It was innocent but he takes it a step farther.
In a smooth move he places his hand on my lower back before dipping me back and then placing his lips against mine in a passionate kiss.
After a moment he stands me back upright before leaving the room, leaving me in shock and surprise.
I hadn’t been expecting that.
But then again I had been expecting something from him.
Laughing I catch my breath and then run my hands over my clothes as I compose myself in order to join the others.
I had to wipe that just been kissed look off my face before I faced Emmett again.
I didn’t need him to start a fight with anyone.
Moving quickly I leave my room and shut the door behind me, but before I even get to the stairs I’m forced to come face to face with a very angry Emmett.
I inwardly ready myself.
But just as I expect him to yell at me or back me against the wall with a fierce growl his face breaks out into a bright smile.
“I figured I would wait for you.” He states calmly.
“You didn’t have to do that.” I argue lightly as I move forward.
He shrugs. “It’s not a big deal, plus I’m glad I did. I learned something new about you while I was waiting.”
My brow rises in curiosity as my heart picks up speed. “And what would that have been?”
He chuckles before grabbing me like Ford had just done. I’m dipped back before his lips crash into mine in a demanding way.
I moan softly before he stands me upright again with a huge smile upon his lips. “You enjoy being swept off your feet.” He answers my question.
I laugh and playfully smack his arm.
He suddenly reaches for me but I dodge him and run down the stairs as fast as I can.
With a loud laugh he rushes after me.
Running as fast as my legs would carry me I run through the house as I continue to laugh.
It was the freest I had felt in a very long time, maybe even freer than I had ever felt since I had been a small child.
Suddenly strong arms circle me and I squeal as I’m lifted up and over Emmett’s shoulder.
He pants for his next breath as he laughs and begins carrying me towards the theater room. “You are unlike anyone I have ever met before, Parker.”
His hand then smacks my butt.
It causes me to laugh harder as I smack his.
As we reach the doors to the theater room Emmett places me back to my feet before running his hands through my hair as he gazes deep into my eyes.
“I haven’t felt that good in a very long time. Thank you, Parker.” He states softly.
I smile as I place my hand against his cheek. “I haven’t laughed like that in a very long time either. It felt too good.”
With a soft sigh he turns his attention towards the doors before looking back to me. “We should go inside before they miss you anymore.”
I nod and take his hand in mine before pushing the doors open and leading him inside.
The movie was already playing so we silently make our way down to one of the larger couches.
Emmett lays down first and then pats the space in front of him for me to join.
I slowly lay down with him and revel in the feeling of his arm as it pulls me snuggly against his body behind me.
Laying there I couldn’t help but wonder over Ford’s warning.
