They lay in bed together, naked and sated from their lovemaking. It was dark, but they had each other and the moonlight prevented the darkness from having complete dominion.
She recalled his jealousy over Cassiel and Aramis. Nimbus had no reason to be jealous, though. Cassiel and Aramis were the sun to her. They'd lit her world and filled it with the warmth of spring while they were in her life.
But Nimbus was the moon to her. Although he lacked the innocence of day, he was the guiding light in her darkest hour. The star her every dream rested upon. When he was gone, the light left with him and there was nothing left, nothing but darkness.
Now was her time of dusk, but night would come and she would need light to ward off despair. Not that the sun that refused to part from the common hours. She needed the moon. That nocturnal beacon of hope that refused to let the terrors of darkness consume her.
Whether hell was an agonizing perdition or a haunting paradise she didn't know. Likely the former, but it didn't matter. They would be together. Their bond transcended eternity and the question of right or wrong. The rings on their fingers reminded her that she willingly gave him her body and soul and swore never to leave him. That was one vow she would never break.
