When they’d recovered, he glanced down at his pants still around his ankles. He kicked off the rest of his clothes. “Guess there wasn’t much finesse in my performance,” he said. “Give me a moment to recover and I’ll do better.”

“Every part of it was perfect, just liked you planned. I am the luckiest woman in the world.”

“Maybe I aimed too high and there is nowhere to go from here?” he teased.

She rolled over and half across his body. “Oh, no, there’s always room for improvement. I can’t wait to see what the next time brings.”

He ran this finger along the shape of her lips. “Perhaps, it will bring a baby. I’d like a little girl with red hair just like her momma.”

Auburn
,” Janice said.

He laughed. “You’ll always be my redheaded lover to me. Happy?”

“Absolutely,” she said. She raised forward and kissed his mouth. “I was so sure I could resist your sexy eyes, and dangerous, delectable body. Look at me now.” Her smile covered her face and her eyes glowed with love.

“I’m looking and I love everything I see inside and out of you, my love.” He rolled her onto her back. “Let’s work on making our baby.”

Epilogue

One year later

Janice Terrell lifted her baby daughter, Lacy, out of the crib. “Time for you to make an appearance, love,” she said to the tiny babe.

“I’ll carry her downstairs.” Drake reached for the baby and settled her in his arms. Lacy opened her eyes to stare up at her father. Janice watched as a smile curved the tiny rosebud mouth.

“She’s as susceptible to Daddy’s charm as all the other women are, including me.” Janice hugged daughter and husband, and ran her hand across the baby’s soft red hair. “I do believe she heard you and willed herself to have really red hair. You seem to get all your wishes,” Janice teased Drake.

He kissed Lacy’s brow. “I got my most important wishes with you two. Let’s go, sweetheart, and let the others see how pretty you are,” he said to the baby.

Downstairs their families and friends waited. They’d planned a weekend for them all to visit and meet and enjoy Lacy.

Of course, her mother and mother-in-law had been here for Lacy’s birth three months ago. Samantha had been a help through the pregnancy and birth, and in helping with the decorating of the farmhouse. Janice glanced around as they walked down the steps to the living room. She loved the house.

Drake had bought horses and cattle, and the ranch was up and running. Standing by the door, Janice saw her brother-in-law, Brent, talking with one of the local teachers. A quiet woman that Janice and Samantha had become friends with during the past year.

At the bottom of the steps, Ty waited, a gentle smile on his face. Drake stopped and handed the baby to him. Ty looked startled at first, then studied the tiny infant. Janice held her breath for fear Lacy might not like being given to someone other than momma or poppa. Lacy studied her Uncle Ty right back, and then yawned, closed her green eyes, and fell asleep.

Janice touched Ty’s arm. “She likes you and trusts you. She won’t go to sleep for just anyone. I think you’re prime material to be a father.”

“You need a wife for that,” Ty reminded her.

“Now that you mention it, I knew there was something I needed to work on.”

Drake and Brent overheard her.

“Watch out, Ty. There’s nothing more dangerous than a happily married woman. Her goal is to see that all the men around her are caught and lassoed,” Brent said.

“That’s true,” Janice replied. “You’d better be watching out also.”

All three brothers had circled around Janice. Ty still held Lacy. “She’s a dangerous woman,” Ty said, nodding at Janice.

“I know. She said I was dangerous, but she was throwing up a smoke screen so I wouldn’t notice the net she’d cast,” Drake said. He winked at Janice, the love in his eyes evident to all the bystanders.

Janice looked around at her father, who was genuinely smiling, her happy mother, Drake’s sweet parents, and all her friends. Her heart was full to bursting with love and happiness.

Drake came to her side and wrapped his arm around her while they watched their baby sleep in Ty’s arms.

“We’re really rich, Drake,” Janice whispered to him.

“I know and if I lost every cent I’d still have my most precious treasures.” Drake held her close against him. They watched their baby being passed around the family circle.

He leaned down and spoke for her ears only. “After they leave let’s go upstairs and work on having a boy.”

Playfully, Janice pushed him away. “Get out of here. You always get your wishes, but this time I want to wait at least until Lacy’s two.”

“I suggest a compromise, one.”

“Eighteen months.”

“Sounds good, but we still need to practice.”

“I agree with that suggestion,” Janice said, and winked, then leaned her head back against his solid chest. Her whole world was together in this one room.

Before she met Drake, she thought she had all she wanted. Her life had been organized, and busy. He was totally her opposite in so many ways, still was at times. But his impulsiveness and fun side balanced her need for planning and structure. They complemented each other in the best ways.

Lacy had made the rounds and Janice’s father placed the baby in her arms. Drake excused himself and walked across the room to speak with his parents.

“She’s the sweetest baby I’ve seen since you were born. I’m happy for you. We can’t all have the same dreams,” her father said.

Janice went up on her tiptoes and kissed his cheek. “Thanks, Dad.” She knew in his own way he was apologizing, and how hard it must have been for him. “We expect you and mom will visit frequently. We intend to give you several grandchildren to spoil.”

Her father glanced across at Drake. “He’s a good husband?”

“The best.”

“I guess I’ll have to like him then.” He smiled at her and Lacy. “Of course, my revenge will be if his son decides he wants to be a judge and not a cowboy.”

Judge Dedrick and Janice laughed so hard she had tears in her eyes. “That’s just plain mean, Dad.” She smiled and glanced at the baby. “And who knows, maybe Lacy will be the one to follow in your footsteps. The main thing we want for any children we have is for them to find their own way.”

Drake came striding across the room. “You two are having too much fun. I want in on what’s so funny.”

“Dad’s hoping to convince Lacy to be a judge,” Janice said, and they both roared with laughter at his expression.
