“Abby! I am so glad you made it back okay”
her mother yelled.

“Me too, but I wouldn’t have made it here
without the unicorn, and Isabella” she said.

Her mother pulled away from her and looked
over to where the pixie was hovering next to her head.

“Isabella, how did you get in here?” her
mother asked the pixie.

Isabella giggled, sounding like a tinkling
little bell.

“Abby brought me in” Isabella told her
mother as she flew over and sat on her shoulder.

Her mother looked over at her with awe.

“You never cease to amaze me. I never would
have even thought about trying to bring her in here” she said with
a smile on her face.

Abby shrugged and looked behind her mother
to the couch and saw that Jasmine was still lying on it, and as she
walked up to her she saw that she still looked quite pale.

“Thank you once again Jasmine, that was a
big thing you did for me” she told her.

Jasmine smiled and she saw her eyes go to
her wings, and read it on her face that she wished she could have
the powers that she had given her back, just so she could feel back
to normal again.

Abby lowered down to her knees and put her
hands onto her shoulders and thought in her head that she was done
with the gift given to her and would willingly giving it back. Abby
felt the power flow back out of her, through her hands, and into
Jasmine, and as she let her go she saw that her beautiful wings had
disappeared.

She felt a twinge of sadness; she had become
a bit attached to those wings, without even realizing that had.
Abby looked back at Jasmine and noticed that her cheeks were
flushed with color and her wings had brightened back up.

“You look like you feel much better” she
told her pulling her into a hug.

Jasmine nodded, “Yes, better than ever. I
don’t see how my mother could enjoy the time she spent with my
father if she felt as drained as I did” she said
absentmindedly.

Abby stood back up and walked over to her
mother.

“So what happened? Where is Elysia?” he
mother asked her. Abby looked over at Tom who looked so tired that
he was about to pass out.

“Can we get some sleep first? I feel very
tired and Tom looks like he’s about to pass out” she answered.

Her mother nodded, “Oh yes, go ahead and get
some sleep in the queen’s bedroom, come and find me once you wake
up” her mother said.

Abby grabbed Tom’s hand and took him to the
queen’s bedroom. Once they landed she pulled him toward the large
bed and pulled back the covers. Tom happily slid in first and she
followed right behind him snuggling up next to him and instantly
falling asleep.

Chapter 34

Abby opened her eyes and looked over next to
her hoping that she hadn’t dreamed that she had gotten Tom back and
sighed when she saw him asleep next to her. She turned her body so
that she was facing him and knew that the best thing for him was to
let him go, but she didn’t know if she could.

For once in her life, she wanted to just be
selfish and keep him all to herself. Tom opened his eyes and looked
at her, and as he saw her looking at him smiled and pulled her
closer to him.

“I am so happy to see you, that woman was
crazy” he said sleepily.

Abby smiled, “I’m happy to see you too, I
was so angry when she took you, I literally wanted to kill her” she
told him.

They lay in bed staring at each other for a
few minutes, just happy to be together when he finally started to
talk again.

“You know, this place feels different, but
it feels comfortable, like a home I never knew I had” he said.

Abby was surprised, that wasn’t something
she had expected to come out of his mouth.

“It feels like that for me too, but I
figured it was just because I belong here” she told him.

He shrugged, “Maybe I belong here too, with
you” he answered, sitting up in bed.

“Is there a bathroom?” he asked.

She nodded and pointed to the door next to
the bed and he slid out of bed and disappeared through it. After a
couple of minutes he walked back through looking at her with an odd
look on his face.

“You know I was scared that you wouldn’t be
able to get me back from her for a while there” he told her.

Abby sat up on the edge of the bed and he
came over to her getting down on his knees in front of her and
putting his head onto her lap. She started to run her fingers
through his hair.

“I was going to find you no matter what,
even if I died trying” she told him.

He looked back up at her, “I love you so
much, I can’t even bear the thought of you dying, ever” he said
with tears in his eyes.

He leaned forward and started to kiss her
frantically, as though she was going to disappear at any second,
and she knew at that moment that she could never let him go.

She snapped her fingers and both of their
clothes disappeared; Tom looked down at his body and lifted his
eyebrows. She smiled and stood up, lifting her into the air as his
did and they lay back down onto the bed together, limbs
intertwined.

***

Abby looked over at Tom who was once again
asleep next to her. She sat up in bed stretching out her arms
trying to completely wake up. She slid out of the bed as slowly and
quietly as she could manage trying not to wake up Tom. She needed
to go and talk to her mother, but she would rather do it alone so
she left him sleeping.

Abby looked around the room and saw that the
clothes she had made disappear earlier were now draped over a small
chair in the corner. Yawning, she made the clothes appear on her
body before heading out to the place she knew her mother was, the
Southern Gardens. It was her favorite place to be since Abby had
basically banished Elysia from it weeks before.

As soon as she landed she spotted her mother
lying on the grass looking up at the clear sky. Abby walked over
and lay down next to her.

“Hello Abby, did you sleep well?” her mother
asked her as soon as her head hit the surprisingly soft grass.

“Yes, I feel very rested” she told her.

They lay there next to each other for a
while watching a lone golden cloud float by above their heads, and
finally after it had completely passed over them did Abby ask the
questions that were nagging at her mind.

“I felt so weak fighting Elysia today, why
is that?” she asked. Her mother answered her right away.

“Magic is very subjective Abby, sometimes it
will be very strong, but just like anything else, we can have off
days too. There can be many factors that caused your magic to not
be at its strongest” her mother explained.

Abby nodded, even though she knew her mother
couldn’t see her.

“Do you remember when I was here in the
garden with Elysia the first time and made her leave?” she
asked.

“Yes, I remember it very vividly” her mother
answered her.

“Well, that time it was like I was pulling
power from the grass, the trees, the sky, everywhere really. It’s
almost like I could hear them telling me they didn’t want her here,
and that they were happy that I had finally made it here. But it
wasn’t like I could actually hear them, it was more a feeling. Do
you know what I mean?” she asked.

Abby could see her mother’s head turn toward
her in the corner of her eye so she turned her head until they were
looking at each other.

“I do know what you mean. Where did you
fight against Elysia in the Faerie Castle?” she asked her.

“We were in a room that was really high up,
nearly the tallest window” she said.

Her mother nodded, “Maybe that was part of
your problem then, you seem to be the strongest when you are around
nature” her mother said.

Abby turned her head back toward the sky,
she had a feeling that her mother would tell her those exact words
and wasn’t all that surprised to hear them.

“What happened exactly? How is she not here
trying to find you now?” her mother asked her.

She told her about how the unicorn had come
to their rescue and about how she turned the barrier inside out so
that the fairies couldn’t cross it once they were on the other
side.

Her mother listened quietly, “I don’t think
it will hold forever, she will find a way to either turn the
barrier back around, or to eradicate it completely” her mother
finally told her when she was finished with her story.

Abby nodded, “Yes, I know. I also know that
once she does escape, I will not be able to hide from her, and I’ll
be ready for her when she does come for me” she said.

Abby’s mother sighed, “As your mother, I
wish there was a way I could protect you, but I know that I can’t.
This is all a part of your destiny, and I am actually quite proud
to see you accept it so completely” her mother said.

Abby smiled, that was one of the nicest
things anyone had ever said to her.

“I have to go back to the mortal world, I
don’t think Tom should stay here much longer” she told her mother
reluctantly.

“I know that Abby, and I agree with you” her
mother responded.

Abby felt an incredible sadness come over
here, she loved being here so much and it hurt her to think of
leaving again. She grabbed her mother’s hand.

“I wish I could stay here with you” she told
her mother. Her mother pulled her into a hug and they lay there for
what seemed like hours hugging.

Chapter 35

Abby looked down at Tom, still asleep on the
large bed and almost just crawled into the bed beside him, but she
knew they needed to home and she had already gone around and said
her goodbyes to everyone.

Finally she decided she was definitely going
to wake him up; she leaned over and slowly stroked the side of his
face.

“Tom” she said softly.

She knew he was a light sleeper and would
likely hear her without speaking too loudly and sure enough after a
few minutes she watched his eyes open. When he saw her looking at
him he smiled.

“Morning” he said stretching his arms above
his head. Abby smiled down at him.

“Good morning sleepy head, it’s time for us
to go back home now” she told him.

He rubbed his eyes and nodded, “Okay, let me
make myself presentable” he told her.

She watched as he got out of bed, looked
around, spotted his clothes and grabbing them, headed into the
bathroom. Abby giggled as she watched him, oblivious to the fact
that he was walking around quite naked.

After a few minutes, he walked back out of
the bathroom fully clothed, his blue eyes already brighter.

“Ready?” she asked him. He nodded and she
grabbed his hand taking him with her to the place that was close to
the portal.

Her mother thought it would be best for them
to leave through the portal, as it would be too hard to try and
take him all the way to the mortal world with magic.

Once they landed he looked around, “Why are
we still here?” he asked seeing the castle in the distance.

Abby laughed, “We have to go out through the
portal, then we can go home from there” she told him.

He shrugged his shoulders, “Whatever, you’re
the boss” he said.

She smiled and pulled him through the portal
letting the bright light wash over her as they stepped back into
the mortal world.

Once the light started to fade, she saw the
gazebo in the distance and smiled, knowing that they would be back
very soon. Halfway to the gazebo Tom stopped moving.

“Hang on a second Abby, my eyes need to
adjust” he told her rubbing his eyes. Abby stopped and waited.

“They really need to put a dimmer switch on
that thing” he told her.

She laughed and started to pull him forward
again, but he didn’t move. She looked back at him, wondering if his
eyes were still hurting him when she saw that he was looking at the
ground.

“What is it?” she asked him as he let go of
her hand and bent over picking one of the flowers off the
ground.

“I’ve just never seen flowers that were
orange like this before.”
