“Martin,” the judge whispered and he
sat back on his heels and stared at the phone in disbelief. None of
the team said anything and Chris realized that they had all lost
friends and were trying to digest the horrible news.

Tyler and Jacob, Chris thought. Eliza. Chef. Mrs.
Stiles. His new family, all gone.

After a few minutes of silence, Beatrice was the
first one to speak.

“Judge Hawkes? Sir?” The judge turned
his head and looked up at her standing over him.

“What do we do now, sir?” she asked,
obviously desperate for orders.

The judge stared at her blankly for a long time.
Then he looked at the others. Everyone was waiting for him to do
something and those looks of desperation seemed to snap him out of
his grief. He picked up the phone and stood slowly.

“Now? Now we call for help and get Natalie
to a hospital. And then we go home and see what is left of the Nest.
If nothing else, we need to bury our dead.”

Chris stood up as well. “And then?” he
asked, his tone almost challenging.

Judge Hawkes looked at him intently. “And
then, Mr. Wright, we do what we should have done in the first place.
We wipe these monsters off of the face of the Earth.”

Chris nodded. That was the answer he was hoping to
hear. They had two more pieces of the sword to find and, if they had
the time to do so, God help the Fallen because he wouldn't. He had a
reason to fight now. He had lost his parents to this evil. And now
he'd lost Tyler, Jacob, Chef, Eliza and the others as well. He could
taste the rage that Sariel knew so well. Now he was ready to strike
back. Let them discover that Sariel was walking the Earth again. Let
them know that his name was Christopher Wright.
