I called her father because I needed to know what I could do.

"Mr. Davis?  Yeah, I know she is on the phone with your wife. It's you I want to talk with, and I don't want Alexandria to know. So when are you planning to tell your daughter about your diagnosis?"

"What the fuck? How did you find out?"

"It's not important how I know, but she needs to know."

"No, she doesn't. I don’t want her upset too. My wife is barely standing with the news. I don't want Alex hurt by the news."

"Well, what do you need to get better?"

"Son, mind your business."

"It is my business. Alexandria is going to be my wife, and I don't want her hurting at all."

I explained to him that his health was more important than the money. I didn't want anything to mar our relationship, and keeping this a secret from her I was sure would do that.

"I will tell her soon. Just keep your mouth shut."

"Well you better, or I will. You need to walk her down the aisle, and I am going to ask her soon."

I hung with him after he gave me more shit about helping him out, but I told him it wasn't for him because I didn't know the motherfucker. It was for Alexandria.

After I hung up, I called Patricia. "Hey. I need you to look up the best hospitals for cancer treatment." I heard her gasp on the other end. "Don't worry. It isn't me. It's Alexandria's father. I need the best. No, it is going good, and she is as sweet as they come. By the way, keep your paws away from her. I don't need her switching sides on me."

She said she couldn't wait to meet my girl, and for some reason, I was worried. I wondered if I was going to turn into a jealous ass all of the sudden. It sure as hell looked like it.

"Have you had any information on the stalker?" Patricia said on the other end.

"No, I haven't. They have reviewed the surveillance footage, and it cuts off just as the package enters my office."

"Well, you better make sure that your girl is well protected. The girl could be jealous and take out her competition."

"Shit. I didn't think of that shit. I am on it." I needed to get a couple of guys to follow Alexandria when me or my guy were not around, though I was not going to tell her about them. I didn't want her to be scared or afraid.

I left the room and went to find my girl. She was still on the phone, so I grabbed it out of her hands.

“Hello, Mrs. Davis. Sorry, but it is time for Alexandria to go to bed. Yes, okay well, she will call you tomorrow. Goodnight.”

“Why did you do that?” she said, outraged.

“Did I not say it was time for bed?” I winked at her.

“Am I going to sleep, or am I just going to bed?”

“You will not be getting any sleep tonight, princess.”

I loved her all night. We only got out of bed to shower in the early hours of the morning. I had to go back to the office, and I didn’t like that shit. I didn’t want to leave her. This was when we had our first argument.

“I want you to stay inside today until I get home from work.”

“Isn’t it nice to want?”

“Okay, smartass. I am telling you to stay inside until I get home.”

“Not going to happen. I have to go talk to Dr. Phelps about getting my job back.”

“You are not going back to work there. I don’t want you working anywhere near the fucked-up pervert.” I was dead serious about that.

“Yes, I am. Dr. Reeves left yesterday, according to Dr. Phelps.”

“I don’t give a shit. You don’t need to work.”

“Please stop while you’re ahead. I may have given you my virginity, but I am not your wife.”

“Not yet. I am just looking out for you.” I pulled her into my arms. “How about you go with Kara and Marcus? I still don’t want you to work at all.”

“I need money, you know.”

“What did I say to you when we were getting ice cream? For now on, you do not pay for anything. I meant that. If you want to work just to get out of the house, then fine, but only part time, okay?”

“Fine. You win this round.”

“Here is some money for now. I will put money in your account later.”

“You don’t have that information.”

“Don’t worry about it. It will be there.”

“You know, you are something else,” she said angrily.

“Yes, but you love me.” I kissed her mouth, and she caved. I made a few calls before I left and drove myself to work after making sure Marcus was with the girls.

Chapter 11—Alexandria

“Has he always been like this?” I asked Kara as we sat in the back of the truck with Marcus driving us around.

“He can be bossy, but since he doesn’t date, I don’t know what he is like.”

“Don’t tell him, but I like it.”

“Ha! I won’t. So this is the place you worked at? It looks nice on the outside.”

“Yeah. It wasn’t the outside that was the problem. There was a doctor that worked here that was a total perv.”

We walked in, and there was Dr. Phelps training a young man at the front desk.

“Alex, it is good to see you.”  He walked up to me and gave me a quick hug while secretly examining my face.

"It is good to see you too, Dr. Phelps. I was just back in town and was wondering if you had a job available still, but I see it has been filled."

“Yes it has for the time being. This is my son, Roger.” The young man smiled up at me from his seat.

"I am planning on taking a new partner, and I cannot be away from the office as much until I have that person."

"Did Dr. Reeves say anything before he left?"

"No." I could see the lie in his face. I already had a feeling that it had something to do with his improprieties with the women here, and also with the women who came in to have their eyes done.

"Well, it is still good to see you."

"Yes, you too. How is Mr. McCain doing?"

"He is doing well. He hasn't had a problem with his eyesight." I blushed because he knew that Max and I were together.

"That is wonderful and just as I expected. I have to get back to my patient, so be good and safe," he said strangely, and I was confused.

"Oh, and by the way, I want an invitation to the wedding."

"Okay." I shook my head. I guess it was obvious that Max was interested in more than a round or two in bed, but I felt like it was too good to be true.

We left the office and started to go out shopping. I checked my balance on my phone to see how much I had left in my account, and I was startled to see that Max was true to his word. There was over two hundred thousand dollars in my account. Kara nearly had to catch me. I tried his number to chew him out.

"Mr. McCain's phone. How may I help you?"

"Hello, this is Alex. May I speak with Max?"

"Oh, so you are the special one. I am sorry, but Max is in a meeting right now and will not be available. Is this an emergency, or is this about your bank balance."

"How did you know about the money?"

"Because I did the transfer. You are dating a very rich and stubborn man. Enjoy it."

"I told him not to do it. Grrr. The man doesn't listen for nothing."

"Yep, that’s the boss."

"Can I transfer the money back?"

"No can do. If I were you, I would just keep it, spend it on yourself, or buy him something nice. The man doesn't lose arguments, and it would be a waste of your time to try."

"Yes, I have noticed."

"Well I have to get back into the meeting, so just a word of warning woman-to-woman. If you hurt him, I will kill you." Her threat was calm, and I knew she was serious.

"I won't." I loved him. I would never hurt him.

"Good, then don't argue about the money. He is doing it because he cares. Ask Ms. McCain. She will tell you how the man can be when it comes to his love ones." It was obvious she knew I was with Kara.

I hung up with his assistant Patricia. I was instantly jealous that she knew him so well, and I wondered if they have ever slept together. I must have said it out loud because Kara answered, "They have never slept together. Max doesn't fool with his employees. It is his number one rule, and second, Patricia is more into you and me than Max, if you know what I mean.” I smiled at the revelation.

“Well, come on, then. Let’s spend Max’s money. I think I am going to buy something nice for him, and you have to help me pick it out,” I said as we headed to the mall. Kara bought five new outfits, then we spent the next two hours looking at lingerie for me to surprise Max with. I think Kara blushed more than I did at the sexy garments.

We talked as we ate in the food court about everything, including some guy named Ben Elliot who was Will’s neighbor. I had a feeling she liked this guy—a lot. I was starting to wonder if he was the reason she was so down. Then she told me that she really wasn’t related to her cousins by blood, and at first I was struck with jealousy, but she told me about the adoption and then the death of her parents. She lost contact with Max and Will when her birth mother took her away from the family, but she found them several years ago and they have been close ever since. They were always looking out for her because they said they hadn’t been able to protect her before. It was really sweet, and it made me love my Max even more.

I was feeling free and happy when all hell broke loose. We headed out of the mall as Marcus got out of the truck, when this tall, skinny, semi attractive woman, who had this crazed look in her eyes, was glaring at me. Both Kara and Marcus yelled at the same time for me to, “Run!” but before I could react, the crazed woman was on me. I’d had enough of being attacked, so I didn’t take the assault lying down and I started pounding this gargantuan woman to the ground. It was simple, and even though she looked strung out, I had no problem kicking her ass.

Marcus and Kara separated us when a person nearby called the cops.

“What the fuck, you dumb bitch?!” I shouted, pissed as fuck. I wanted to get loose from Kara and knock this broad out. I knew she had something to do with Max.

“You stole him from me! He was supposed to be mine. I had him right where I wanted him. He canceled on me to be with you. I thought he had to work, but I found out it was you. I have been trying to get him for months. I have been leaving him gifts. Just when I get my chance to be with him and in his bed, you show up and ruin everything!” She tried to get out of Marcus’s grip, but that was a lost cause; the man was too strong.

“Oh my God! You are the stalker chick! But you are Kendall Redding, the model,” Kara said, shocked at the revelation.

“Stalker…Max never said anything about a stalker.”

“Miss Davis, he didn’t want you to worry,” Marcus said gruffly as the crazed bimbo struggled in his grasp.

“Yes… He didn’t tell you, did he? He had a date with me that night for a nice little fuck, and you had to go and crash into him. I bet you did it to meet him, didn’t you? I hate you!”

The police arrived and took her into custody as Marcus drove us to the hospital. While I was being seen, Marcus had texted Max:
Kendall attacked Alex. She is your stalker. We are at the hospital.

When he got there, he looked frantic. His eyes were wide with fear. His hair was a mess and his tie was loosened. He ran up to see if I was well, but the jealous pain and anger I was feeling was too much. I pushed him away and noticed the pain that coursed through his eyes. The doctor had just cleared me to go home, and I had just gotten dressed in an outfit Kara had bought for herself, since that bitch had ripped my dress.

“I’m sorry that she hurt you, baby. Talk to me, Alexandria. Do not push me away again.” He tugged me until I was in his arms as he examined my face and arms.

“Why should I talk to you?! You obviously don’t talk to me. You didn’t bother to tell me that you had a fucking stalker. A woman you fucked and dumped after we met.” I was furious, and all I wanted to do was go back home to Chicago.

“I didn’t fuck her. I am not going to have this conversation here. Let’s go home.” Marcus drove, Kara joined us and sat in the front seat of the truck. Max grabbed my hand, and I tried to pull away but he was stronger than me. So, in a snit, I turned to the window and refused to look at him.

We had gotten to the apartment when Kara asked Marcus to take her to get something to eat. I knew she did it so we could have some privacy. I fought the tears that clouded my eyes. We had barely entered the living room before he was lashing his anger out on me.

“Look at me, Alexandria, damn it! I didn’t sleep with Kendall. Granted, initially I was planning on it. It had been a long time, and she and I met at several functions, but the moment I saw you, I wanted no one else. I never even touched her. I am sorry that your feelings are hurt, but I didn’t do shit wrong. I am not letting you leave, so you can keep looking at the front door all you want—it still isn’t going to happen.”

“You didn’t tell me about her stalking you. What else are you keeping from me?”

“I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want you to worry. I had been in the process of vetting more security for you this morning at the office.” I wanted to be angry because he was keeping secrets, but really my anger stemmed from being jealous about him wanting someone else.
