I bet you would, Pete thought.

When he opened the door to find Dinah standing out in the hall, all the anger and anxiety he had been feeling evaporated. Having her near him seemed to do that. He never felt that way with anyone before. Without speaking, he grabbed her arm, yanking her inside and pressed her up against the back of the door. She opened her mouth to speak, but he stopped her with his own. When they finally came up for air, he noticed her flushed cheeks and bright eyes, and he instantly wanted her.

“Hello to you too,” she said, her voice sounding all breathy like it always did when she was turned on. He loved it.

“Hey,” he grinned. “How was your day?” He still had her pinned, which he rather liked. Her tiny body was pressed against his in all the right places.

She looked up, seeming to think about it before saying, “boring.”

“Until now, right?”

She laughed. “Yes, until now. You’re certainly not boring. And no one else threw me up against a door and kissed me like that, so I’d say you’re much more exciting than most.”

He furrowed his brows. “I should hope no one else does this to you.” She laughed again, a sound he could listen to for the rest of his life. He finally stepped back, letting her loose. “You hungry?”

“Starving,” she said, wandering over to his kitchen. He watched her make herself at home as she stood before the stove, lifting the lids to see what was inside the pots. A warm feeling spread through his chest. She looked good in his space. “Did you make this?” she asked, looking back at him questioningly. She cocked her head to the side. “What are you doing?”

He smiled, shoving his hands in his jean pockets and rocking back on his heels. “Watching you.”

A blush spread over her cheeks. “Why?”

Because you are beautiful and I can’t help it, he answered silently. “Yes, I made that,” he answered, ignoring her question. “I happen to be a very good cook,” he continued, walking into the kitchen to remove the sauce from the burner.

Dinah sat down at the island and instantly started filling her plate with salad and pasta. “You, Pete McKay, are just full of surprises.”

“I try,” he said.

“So what’s for dessert?” she asked, smiling around her fork.

“Guess,” he answered, looking at her intensely until another blush reddened her cheeks and she looked away. He chuckled.

Chapter Nineteen

Dessert had been put on hold due to Seamus and Garrett’s arrival not long after they started eating. The two boys grabbed plates and started filling them with food without even asking. Dinah laughed at Pete’s stunned face. He looked over at her, rolling his eyes.

“Sometimes I feel more like their father than their friend,” he murmured.

“And we love ya for it, pops,” Seamus said. “How’s the arm, Dinah?”

“Fine,” she answered, moving it gingerly.

“I wish you could have seen this girl, Garrett,” Seamus said, eyes wide. He went into a dramatic enactment of the car chase and Dinah hanging out the window. By the time he was done, she had tears in her eyes from laughing so hard. His retelling was slightly exaggerated, but she let him have his fun. Garrett seemed genuinely impressed. When they were done they headed over to the Bull’s Eye. Trent was already there with that Tommy Boy guy and a few others she didn’t know. Pete ordered them a pitcher and the rest of the night was spent drinking and trying to shout over each other.

At one point, Pete leaned over and asked her if she wanted to play some pool. She’d never played before, but she agreed. By the end she decided she liked pool – a lot. Pete had molded his body around hers to help line up shots, his breath tickling her neck, and every once in a while his lips would brush the tip of her ear. It was driving her nuts.

When they sat back down, he draped his arm across the back of her chair, his fingertips playing idly with a strand of hair, or drawing slow circles on the back of her neck. The entire time he seemed oblivious to what he was doing to her. She was aware of every touch, every graze, every caress, to the point where she thought she might spontaneously combust from how tightly wound she was.

Finally, when she’d had enough, she leaned over, letting her lips brush against his ear. His whole body stiffened in reaction. Letting her hand glide over his thigh slowly, she heard him let out a whoosh of breath, and she decided maybe he wasn’t so oblivious after all.

“I think it’s time to go home,” she whispered.

He turned his head, their faces only inches apart, staring into each other’s eyes. The entire pub melted away around her. “Home? As in…”

“Your place,” she said. Understanding and a need so intense it had her insides clenching, filled his bright, green eyes.

“Aw! Look at you two,” Seamus hollered. Dinah turned her head to see everyone at the table watching them. Seamus wiped at a fake tear under his eye.

“I think it’s definitely time to go home,” Pete said. He gripped her hand on his thigh and pulled her up. “We’re off, mates.”

“You want me to come by later? Make sure you got home okay?” Seamus asked, smiling widely.

“If you come by later, I will personally beat the shit out of you,” Pete said, throwing some money down on the table. He turned and pulled Dinah along behind him. Seamus’ voice called out after them.

“A simple no would have sufficed!”

The door was barely shut before they were on each other. Pete had her up, legs wrapped around him, back against the wall, in a matter of seconds. Dinah’s hands were frantic, smoothing over his shoulders, arms, head, neck, anywhere she could touch. His mouth left hers as he kissed and sucked at her neck. She leaned her head to the side, giving him full access as she caught her breath. Then his hands were pulling at her shirt, and hers at his. He let her down on her feet so they could undress each other, neither of them saying a word as they did so. The only sound was their harsh breathing, and moans when their bare skin met.

He cupped her face, teasing her bottom lip with his tongue and teeth as he walked her backwards. The back of her knees hit the arm of the couch. Pete spun her around, his hands splaying over her stomach as he kissed her shoulders. One hand moved to unhook her bra. She wiggled it off until it was discarded and forgotten on the floor.

His lips trailed down her back, stopping just at the base of her spine. He knelt behind her, his fingers gripping the sides of her panties, and pulled them down her thighs. He placed two light kisses on either side of her buttocks before biting it. She gasped in surprise, looking down at him to see him grinning widely.

“Did you seriously just bite my ass?” she asked, shocked.

“Yup,” he answered happily. Then leaned in to bite it again. “And yes, I just bit it again.”

She laughed. “You’re nuts.”

He stood up, pushing her panties the rest of the way to the floor with his foot until she had to step out of them. “Only when it comes to you,” he whispered in her ear, letting his tongue trace the outside of it.

Her breathing picked up, and she let herself fall back into him. His hand slid over her hip, burning its way across her stomach and down to her most sensitive part. He pressed firmly, rubbing slow circles. “Bend forward,” he ordered, nipping her earlobe.

Dinah let her upper body drop over the arm of the couch, propping herself up on her elbows. Pete widened her legs, grabbing onto her hips. Then he entered her slowly. He felt bigger in this position, making her feel fuller. She moaned at the sensation, resting her forehead against the cushion beneath her. Then he began moving in a hard rhythm, causing her to cry out every time his hips smacked against her backside. She felt the familiar stirrings of her climax start to increase rapidly. When he angled himself differently, rubbing on a particularly sensitive spot, her legs began to shake and she moaned louder. He continued rubbing it until she burst, screaming his name. His climax followed shortly after, and then they were both left breathless.

“I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of you,” he breathed.

Pete blinked a couple of times, his face smothered in Dinah’s hair. She lay fast asleep in his arms, her breathing even. Need instantly stirred in him, feeling her naked body pressed to his. Then the knock that woke him up came again at his front door. He slipped out, careful not to wake her, and grabbed the first pair of pants he could find.

He opened the door, expecting one of the guys, but was surprised to see Bridgette standing there instead. “Hey,” he said sleepily, yawning. She pushed past him, her face grim. He always knew when Bridge was pissed. “What’s up?”

She looked around, spotting the discarded clothes everywhere, her eyes moving to the bedroom door. “Got company?” she asked.

“Yeah,” he answered. “So keep your voice down.”

She snorted. “Since when do you let them sleep over?”

He titled his head to the side, crossing his arms over his chest. “Since now. What’s up, Bridge?”

She shoved a folded piece of paper at him. “I found this under my door when I got home tonight.”

He opened the note slowly, reading the single sentence and signature beneath it.

“Why the hell is my father contacting me, McKay? Did I not make it clear enough that I’m not interested in being a part of whatever the hell you guys are planning?”

“I don’t know why he’s asking you to see him,” he replied. “He knows how you feel.”

“Well I want him to stop. I don’t want him to contact me, I don’t want to see him, and I certainly don’t want him leaving me notes where I live,” she said. “You tell him to leave me alone. Got it?”

“Yeah, I got it,” he stated. “Whatever this is, I have nothing to do with it.”

She narrowed her eyes. “Fine. Just make sure you let him know I said stop.”

“Will do,” he said. “Anything else?”

She took a deep breath. “No, that’s it. How have you been anyway? I haven’t seen much of you lately.”

His eyes glanced at his bedroom door then back to her. “I’ve been busy.”

She smirked. “I bet.”

“You want me to walk you out?”

She nodded. Pete walked her down to the street, holding the door open for her while he looked around quickly. “You shouldn’t be walking around this late on your own,” he told her.

Bridgette rolled her eyes, but she was smiling. “I’m fine, McKay. No one bothers me.”

“Just be careful, would you?” He leaned in and kissed her forehead, wrapping an arm around her for a quick hug.

“You too,” she replied poking him in the stomach. He watched her walk down the street until she turned out of sight, and then went back up to crawl in beside Dinah.

“Who was that?” she asked, her eyes still closed.

He kissed her shoulder, pulling her close again. “Just a friend.”

Roman had spent the last couple of nights watching Bridgette leave the Red Lounge and following her home. He knew it wasn’t right, but he was only doing it to make sure her father didn’t try and contact her. And to make sure she didn’t go anywhere near Lottey. Or so he told himself. Something inside him felt the need to ensure nothing happened to her. It was foreign and strange, and yet he couldn’t seem to help himself.

Tonight she had walked in a different direction. He followed like always, and stood across the street when she entered what looked like an empty, forgotten building. She wasn’t in there long when he saw the door open again, and none other than Chatty Cathy come out with her. Jealously and rage instantly boiled inside him. They smiled at each other, and the guy even kissed her on her forehead before she walked off.

He wasn’t even wearing a shirt. What had they been doing in there? Was she sleeping with him? He didn’t like the guy to begin with, but now he absolutely hated him. For whatever reason, his mind and body had decided that Bridgette was his. Even if Roman knew it couldn’t happen, for so many reasons he couldn’t even begin to list them, it still didn’t change the fact that he wanted her. Bad. The thought of someone else getting to be with her, touch her, feel her, had his head spinning.

He watched as the other guy stood outside until she turned a corner and then he went back in. Roman looked at the building for another moment before turning and heading back to headquarters. Dinah was working hard to get information from these guys, that one included. Unfortunately for her, she was going to have one less source to work with, because Roman was going to kill him the next chance he got.

Pete was having the best dream of his life. Warmth covered the right side of his body. Whatever it was, it felt
right
. Something tightened around his chest, pushing that warm feeling closer. Blinking against the morning light, his eyes opened to stare at the ceiling above him. The sky was a clear blue through the skylight, not a cloud in sight. He looked down to find his dream was reality. Dinah was tucked against him, her cheek resting on his bare chest. She looked younger like this, peaceful and relaxed.

He felt her smile against his skin, pressing her body closer to his. “What are you staring at?” she murmured.
