His soft chuckle caressed her.

“It’s true.” She pulled out a dark chocolate raspberry and tore the foil open. The first bite melted in her mouth and soothed the quaking in her soul. “You have no idea how good this is.” When he said nothing, she glanced over to find him staring at her, coffeepot in hand. Licking the chocolate off her thumb, she lifted her eyebrows. “You want some?”

Simon cleared his throat and shook his head slowly. “I’ll take your word for it.” The way he continued staring unnerved her.

“Okay, then stop looking like you want to leap over here and take it away. I don’t mind sharing, but I will fight to keep this one.” To emphasize her point, she took another bite.
Chocolate-gasm in the mouth. Damn. Perfect.

The telepath shook his head again and turned to the coffeemaker. Nibbling another bite, she savored it and studied the muscles bunching and releasing along his back. She could watch him all night. His shoulders went stiff and Amanda giggled.
Is that all that’s stiff?

Coffeepot set and turned on, the machine burbled as he walked over to where she perched, planted a hand on either side of the counter and stared at her. “Don’t play with me.”

“Dude, you seriously need a lot of play.” Waving the chocolate under his nose, she grinned. “Come on, you’re tempted. I know you are.” He was so somber.
Sex would loosen you right up. It’s always the quiet ones.
The devil-may-care thought erupted out of nowhere, but heat flashed from her sex to her breasts at the mental image it evoked. Walking her fingers up his arm, she grinned at the tautness of the muscle flexing under the skin.

This is a bad idea, Amanda. You’re drunk.
Well, if that thought wasn’t a buzzkill, she didn’t know what was.

“I beg to differ. I haven’t had a drop of alcohol. Besides, you really should try this chocolate…” She popped the last bite into her mouth and slid forward. Her bare legs locked on his hips, and her mouth fused to his. He went still, but the moment her chocolate coated tongue slid between his lips, he reacted. His arms wrapped around her and his tongue tangled with hers.

White hot lightning exploded in her mind. Tingles radiated out from everywhere their skin touched—like two live wires making contact. His hand fisted in her hair and he tugged her head back, deepening the kiss. His tongue stole into her mouth again, a sensuous invader, and she groaned. Palms flat against his spine, she caressed the length of muscle and need swamped her.

She wanted him.

Right now.

He pulled away, pushing her back on the counter, and his ragged breathing matched her own. “We shouldn’t—” A battle raged across his expression. “You don’t know what you’re doing…”

“No?” Her eyebrows lifted, and she trailed her hand down his chest to the tent made by his erect, and oh-so solid, cock. His lips drew back over his teeth as she caressed the hard length through his clothes. “You do, and I dare you to find out just how much I am.” This was exactly what she needed. Her nipples stung, they were so tight and heat soaked her pajama bottoms. She wanted him naked and inside her. She wanted to feel alive.

His gaze dropped to her chest and then to the waist of her pants. Moistening his lips, he sighed. “You’re still recovering and…”

“Oh, for the love of God.” She grabbed his hand and slid it past her waist band. His fingers curled against the seam of her sex and she wanted to weep. It was the sweetest torture. Pain and longing tightened his face, and she locked his hand in place with her thighs. “You can’t tell me you don’t want me…” In her mind, a light flared, bright and incandescent.

Wanting and having are two very different things, Amanda.
His mental voice was a dark stroke of pleasure, tightening the coil of need in her core. All she needed was to grind a little against his hand. But he planted his free hand against her hips and held her still. Breath catching in her throat, frustration welled up.

She needed this.

Hand twisting, his fingers spread against her sex, the heel of his palm grazing her clit. Pleasure erupted through her. A whimper clawed up her throat, and she squeezed the hard steel of his dick, teasing it up and down in a slow, inviting stroke.

Yes.

Arching forward, she kissed him, not entirely certain whose yes it was.

The last thing he should be doing was teasing the soft flesh of her nether lips, but the first moist stroke drew him like a moth to her incandescent flame. He avoided romantic entanglements, since very few were successful when he could hear the irritation in their thoughts or they broadcast boredom, demands, or worse, an agenda. The closer he grew to someone the less he could stay out of their heads. Affection drew him—like Garrett he supposed. Garrett, who couldn’t touch someone physically, and Simon, who didn’t dare become emotionally invested.

Kissing her offered a taste of heaven, sparkles, sunshine, and all the glittery crap they talked about on commercials. Every flex of her hand against his cock seemed to make him harder. He teased a finger at her entrance, swirling around until he could push into the warm, moist clench of her muscles. Her teeth grazed his lip, and she gasped. Her eyes opened and they glowed.

Entranced, he leaned back and slowly traced a circle around her clit. Her lips parted and the glow in her eyes intensified. Every brush of his thumb seemed to spark the luminescence, making it brighter. Her chest rose and fell, the hard pearls of her nipples outlined perfectly beneath the tank top.

Curious, he canted his head and pressed a kiss to the pulse point in her throat. The mad little beat made his lips tingle and he raised his head, studying her eyes. The glow fascinated him. He leaned to the other side and kissed a path to behind her ear, each kiss matched by a slow stroke of his finger into her sex. The muscles grabbed at him with tiny little convulsions. No heat came from her eyes, but they blazed and he gave into the temptation, slipping into her mind.

Every thought echoed the want of him. No artifice, no secrets, no hidden agenda. Just pure, unadulterated lust and…he drew away, startled.

“What?” She breathed the word, licking her lips. Her hands roamed across his chest, alternating between stroking his skin and teasing him through the pajama bottoms. Every muscle in him went rigid.

“Amanda…” Stopping was not out of the question. Not yet. Better to regret what might have been than live with recrimination for taking advantage.

Undeterred by his retreat, she leaned forward and bit down on his shoulder, her tongue laving at his skin. The action stymied him, but why should she understand reluctance when his finger still rested deep inside her and his thumb seemed possessed of a mind of its own, teasing her clit with electric shocks at every caress.

“Yes, Simon?” She breathed the words against his ear and his mind. With a groan, he slid his hands free and pulled her off the counter, wrapping his arms around her and kissing her. She clutched at his shoulders, her legs wrapped around his hips and, if not for their clothes, he would have thrust home. As it was, she arched her hips and ground herself against him, the hard, pulsing actions short firing the neurons in his mind.

He made it two steps away from the counter and sank down on the floor. Lips meshing together, he worked his hands under her tank top and released her only long enough to strip the shirt off and throw it to the side. Her breasts were small, pert, and filled his palm. He massaged his hands over them.

Yes, just like that…
The mental exclamation drove him. Easing her down against the floor, he kissed a path along her jaw to her throat and lower to the first plump nipple and sucked it between his teeth. Her fingers fisted in his hair, urging him closer. He teased it with long, hard licks, vibrating the tension in her higher. Every time she gasped, he increased the pressure and, when her fingers bit into him, he shifted to lave the attention on the other nipple. One tug and the drawstring on her bottoms gave away easily. The sharp curves of her body betrayed her ill treatment in the last few months.

Violence surged through him. A scar decorated her right abdomen and her hip. She writhed impatiently as he nudged the fabric down and pressed a kiss to her pelvis.
Hurry…

“Shhh.” He kissed his way to her thigh. “Patience.”

Screw patience. Fuck me…
The bold demand sent heat racing down his spine. It was exactly what he wanted to do, but he didn’t have a condom.

Sitting up, she gave him a little push, denying him the first taste he anticipated and she glared at him. “You’re a guy, and you don’t have a condom?” A flash of embarrassment rushed him, and her expression softened. “Simon, there’s an entire med lab downstairs. I’ll bet you dollars for donuts the doc has condoms stashed somewhere.”

It hadn’t occurred to him. Scooping her up, he left her clothes where they were and carried her down the stairs. She laughed and teased his earlobe with wet, sucking kisses that threatened to topple them down the stairs.
Are you always this impatient?
He headed for the supply cabinet. And, as if summoned by his thoughts, he located them on the first shelf. Pulling them out, Amanda grabbed them from his hand. The search had cleared his head, but only enough to realize they needed more privacy than the kitchen or lab floors.

Inside her hospital room, he shut the door and kissed her, a long, hard, tongue thrusting kiss that left them both dizzy. Somehow, she got the foil package open, and then they were on the floor. When she pushed his pants down, he settled on the bottom rather than let the cold, hard tile touch her skin.

Her glowing gaze turned bluish-white, and his breath locked in his throat.
You’re beautiful.
He tried to show her how gorgeous she was in his mind, and her cheeks flushed and her smile grew wider.

“You’re one to talk.” Her fingers teased the rim of his cock, and he sucked in another breath.

Careful, I may come…

“Oh, don’t tease me. I think I’d like to watch that.” The image of her going down on him, her mouth working around his length and the head of his cock bumping against her throat made his eyes cross. “But I want you inside me first. I need you.”

He needed her. Condom rolled into place, she straddled his lap and looked at him.
Can you hear me?

Yes.

She sank down slowly and guided him into her entrance, taking just the head, and the muscles in his throat convulsed.

Can you feel me, Simon?

He steadied her, hands on her hips. He wanted to bury himself in her, lose himself in her eyes. The liquid heat teasing him set his blood on fire.
Yes.

“Good.” She sank down, taking the fullness of him, and a flash pain in her thoughts had him hesitating.
So big. Oh God, so big. Tight—
Her teeth gritted and, when he would have urged her back up, she took the rest of him.
No, it feels good. So good—pain and pleasure.
Her head tilted back, the rich blue of her hair spreading against her shoulders, and she pushed up with her thighs and began to rock against him. He kissed her chest, the length of her vulnerable neck, and let her set the pace. His whole body revved, tightening with the sensuality shimmering in her thoughts.

Every thrust brought her closer to the edge. Her buttocks clenched and she ached for his mouth on her breast. He eagerly obliged, responding to every nuance of her need. Palming her ass, he heard the flicker of thought about the taut rim of her anus. Curious, he traced a finger against the hard ring of muscles and she came, pumping and crying out. Her orgasm triggered his and he jerked her close, shouting his bliss into her mouth and her mind.

Chapter Seven

She woke up in the hospital bed, curled onto her side, with a warm presence draped against her back. Awareness returned slowly, but the pleasant ache in her body reminded her of the midnight play and she sighed. Easing up on an elbow, she looked over her shoulder. Simon’s eyes were open, and he stared at her.

“Creepy.” Scooting over and rolling, she propped herself up to meet his gaze.

“What exactly is creepy?” Brows lifted in challenge, he ran a finger up her side. He must have dressed her, because she didn’t remember going up to get her pajamas.
Yes, I didn’t want to embarrass you if Ilsa came in and found us both naked.

Not going to be embarrassed.
The pleasure in her belly pulsed through her, arousal and satisfaction tangling in a neat knot.
How long have you been watching me?

All night.
The confession startled her.
Wanted to keep the bad dreams away.
The second admission filled her with a fresh flood of warmth.

You’re better than a dreamcatcher. Not a single one made it through.
She could get used to that. It was nice, but didn’t he need sleep as well?

I’m fine. Thank you for last night.

She opened her mouth, but a knock at the door announced Ilsa just before she opened it. “Oh.” The doctor blinked at them and her cheeks warmed to a delicate pink. “My apologies.”

“It’s fine.” Simon soothed, sitting up and sliding off the edge of the bed. He’d found a t-shirt to go with his pajama bottoms. “I need to go shower.”

Amanda chewed the inside of her lip, reluctant to let him go. His gaze swept over her face, and his blue eyes warmed.
I’m right here if you need me.
The gentle internal tap made her all dewy. He was inside—still.

Okay.

Ilsa scooted out of the way, and Simon passed her with a polite nod. The doctor glanced at her, an apology on her face. “I’m really sorry for interrupting.”

“It’s okay, he’s right. We just woke up, that’s all.” She finger-combed her hair. A shower sounded wonderful.

“How are you this morning?” Ilsa brought a blood pressure cuff over to the bed, along with her stethoscope.

“Still kicking.” She sat for the blood pressure reading, and didn’t comment during the pulse check or the waving of the light in her eyes. “When can I move out of here?” She hadn’t stayed in a place so lacking in character since first moving to the city. She wanted to check on her apartment. Hell, did she even have an apartment anymore? Her day job was probably toast. Since she doesn’t show up for months, they weren’t going to hold the retail shop for her. They had no idea what she did outside of being a clerk girl… No, Corkscrew didn’t mean anything to her manager. Fortunately, she had a lot of connections. She would be able to find something.
