2.
Keep for up to 1 month.

Fizzy Orange Bath Bomb

It’s fun for toddlers and kids to have a bath bomb that’ll fizz around their tub, leaving a beautiful scent and even a few rose petals. I suggest doubling up the amounts, so you can give some as gifts. These bath bombs contain oils that are safe for a child over 1 year of age.

YOU WILL NEED

  • 5 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. citric acid
  • 1 tsp. carrot seed oil
  • 10 drops orange essential oil
  • 10 drops neroli essential oil
  • 1 tsp. dried rose petals (optional)
  • 1 ice cube tray

HOW TO

1.
Mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl, making sure that you mash the oils well into the powder.

2.
Press into an ice cube tray. Leave the tray at room temperature for a few hours so that the bath bombs can harden. You should get 2 or 3 small bath bombs (cubes) from this recipe.

3.
You can wrap your bath bombs in pretty remnant squares and tie with a ribbon for a cute gift. Store them in an airtight container for up to 3 months.

Baby Balm

This simple yet softening balm is perfect for your little baby’s delicate skin after a bath.

Yields:
approximately 4 oz. of balm

Application:
use after a bath and massage into your baby’s body

Storage:
4-oz. dark glass jar in a cool, dark cupboard

Shelf life:
3 months

5 tbsp. sweet almond oil

2 tbsp. beeswax 1 tbsp. cocoa butter

10 drops Roman chamomile essential oil

5 drops lavender essential oil (this should only be added for a baby who is 12 months or older)

1.
In a small bowl set over a large saucepan of boiling water, place all the ingredients except the essential oils and warm until the beeswax has melted.

2.
Remove from the heat and allow to stand for 5 minutes before adding the essential oils.

3.
Pour into your jar.

Baby Powder

Since talc, the main ingredient in most baby powders, is a proven carcinogen, here’s a safe and effective alternative.

YOU WILL NEED

  • ½ cup cornstarch
    *
  • ½ cup arrowroot powder
    *
  • 20 drops Roman chamomile essential oil

HOW TO

1.
Simply place all the ingredients in a shaker (a flour/sugar shaker is ideal).

2.
Store your powder out of direct sunlight for up to 6 months.

Shampoo

Shampoos are tough because they contain so many questionable ingredients. This recipe is simple to prepare and does the job. You can also mix and match the scents.

Yields:
approximately 8 oz. of shampoo

Application:
for a baby, use once a week; for a toddler 18 months and up, use 2 to 3 times a week

Storage:
8-oz. plastic bottle (an old shampoo bottle will do)

Shelf life:
6 months

1 cup liquid castile soap

½ tsp. jojoba oil

5 drops lavender essential oil
*

5 drops grapefruit essential oil
*

1.
Mix all the ingredients together in a measuring jug and pour into a plastic bottle.

Conditioner

I never used a conditioner on Lola until she was about 4. She has really thick hair, and because we live in a very dry climate, I give her hair a little “treatment” once a week as follows.

YOU WILL NEED

  • ½ cup virgin coconut oil
  • 12 drops ylang ylang essential oil
