The sensual twining of tongues shot his pulse rate into high gear. Her taste exploded in his mouth. His cock throbbed with need—a need to be buried deep inside her pussy. His breath came in ragged gasps. He had to have her now.

His intention had been to sit down with her and figure out what each of them wanted, where they were headed as far as a relationship was concerned. But that would have to wait. The feel of her skin, the sound of her voice—it shoved his good intentions aside.

“We’ll talk later.” He didn’t like the huskiness that clung to his words, but at the moment, he didn’t have very much control over his all-consuming need for her. Just being near her brought out things in him he hadn’t realized were there. Passion glowed in the depths of her eyes, robbing him of his last vestige of good intentions.

“Let’s get out of these clothes.”

“Yes.”

Her breathless reply went straight to his cock as it strained against the front of his jeans, demanding to be let free. Clothes fell away. Gasps and moans of heavy breathing filled the air as they sank to the thick carpeting.

Gage pulled her on top of him as he stretched out, her wet sex tantalizingly close to his mouth. Moisture glistened on her pussy lips. Her engorged clit beckoned to him and he answered the call. A savory lick filled him with her unique spicing, a taste he’d craved every moment of the day.

Wrapping his arms around her hips, he kneaded the round globes of her perfect rear end. Just as he wiggled his tongue into her pussy and drew her clit into his mouth, her lips closed around his hard cock. A jolt of primal need shot through his body. He thrust his hips upward, wanting her to suck in more of his length.

He lost himself in the delicious feast she presented, drinking in her juices, teasing her clit and reveling in her earthy moans of delight. The marvelous things she was doing to his cock confirmed her level of arousal, one that matched his own. Two bodies perfectly attuned, each feeding the other’s lustful needs. Excitement coursed hot through his veins. The churning in his balls let him know orgasmic release was only a moment away.

Disassociated considerations swirled through his mind, trying to grab his attention. Burying his cock deep inside her pussy, his condoms upstairs in the bedroom, pulling her off before he came in her mouth. All of it flew out of his head when her clit vibrated, her body shuddered and her pussy muscles grabbed at his tongue as the orgasm claimed her body. At that moment his only rational thought told him it was too late.

Hard spasms swept through him driving spurts of semen against her tongue. And still he continued to devour her taste, unable to relinquish the treat even in the throes of orgasm. It was only when she raised her head and his cock fell from her mouth that he was able to restore some composure. His chest heaved as he gasped for air.

He rolled to the side, repositioning himself so that he could take Afton is his arms. He held her body against his, smothering her face with kisses. Her tautly puckered nipples rubbed against his chest as she tried to slow her labored breathing.

The words started to form in his mouth, but he quickly buried his face in her hair to stop them. He had been only moments away from saying something he wasn’t ready to say—telling her he just might be falling in love with her. He continued to enfold her in his arms until their breathing had returned to normal.

Hot sex on the floor only a few feet from the front entrance of his suite. He couldn’t even wait to get upstairs. It screamed loud and clear that her mere presence literally robbed him of his restraint and composure.

Gage cradled her head against his shoulder. “As I said earlier, we need to talk.” It all seemed so natural. Spontaneous sex followed by
business as usual
without any need to discuss it or explain it. Yes, it all seemed so natural…and comfortable.

He stood up, then assisted her. “Let’s go upstairs.”

They each picked up their clothes and walked hand-in-hand to his bedroom. Prior to her arrival, he had placed a bottle of chilled champagne in an ice bucket along with two champagne flutes. He uncorked the bottle, poured them each a glass and handed one to her. Neither of them made any attempt to get dressed.

“I know you’ve been busy and so have I, but I’ve really missed seeing you today. Before we move on to other matters, I want to explain that Cynthia thing. I’m sorry about dumping her on you. I had to get my distance but wasn’t sure what to do. Then I saw you get off the elevator. I had complete faith in your ability to see through her charade and handle the situation without causing any problems or attracting undue attention.”

A hint of surprise darted across her face. “Thank you for the compliment.” It was quickly followed by a flush of embarrassment. “I should have known you couldn’t be taken in that easily. If she’s a reporter, then I’m a gourmet chef. It finally came down to her asking me if you had someone on your staff who did public relations and then
suggested
that perhaps I might be manipulating you in an attempt of snagging that job for myself. I’m not quite sure exactly what she was after. On the surface it appeared that she had used the reporter pretense merely as a means of hitting you up for a job, but I’m not so sure that was all there was to it.”

“Pretending to want a job?” He tucked a loose tendril of hair behind her ear as he brushed a soft kiss across her lips. “Then that was ruse number two on her part. I did some phoning after agreeing to the interview. First thing I found out was that she doesn’t work for the newspaper. The second thing I found out, after a little more digging, is that she works for my soon to be ex-wife’s attorney. Apparently my attorney relayed what I said yesterday, and it spurred her attorney into action. I guess he sent Cynthia, or whatever her name really is, here to do a little snooping.”

“I told Ronald she was a phony and asked him to keep his eye on her to make sure she didn’t wander anywhere she wasn’t supposed to even though I didn’t know who she really was.”

“Ronald called me a little while ago and said she finally left after hanging around the lobby for a while. Apparently she had asked him a couple of times if I was going to be coming back and he told her he didn’t know my schedule.”

Gage had done several things that afternoon in addition to checking out the journalism credentials of Cynthia Hargrove. And a lot of it had to do with his ever-increasing thoughts and growing emotional closeness to Afton.

And the more he thought, the more the confusion cleared. He didn’t know if they really had anything together beyond torrid passion and hot sex, but he wanted to find out. He wanted to explore the possibility. And he couldn’t seriously pursue her when he was still tied to another woman, even if they had been legally separated for three years and his only emotional ties to his wife were anger and frustration.

He built a fire in the fireplace, then they sat on the couch facing the flames. He put his arm around her shoulder and pulled her to him. An uncommon nervousness jittered inside him as he tried to gather the right words.

“I’m not sure how to say this. I’ve never had anything happen as quickly or hit me so hard as what happened between us. You said you wanted to know the man between the extremes. Well, what do you think? Is he someone you would want to spend a lot of time with?” He swallowed his anxiety but couldn’t keep his dwindling confidence and uncertainty from showing in his voice. “Someone you think you might want to develop a true relationship with?”

The joy swelled inside her until she had a difficult time containing it. It wasn’t at all what she had feared he might say but absolutely what she wanted to hear. “I think the man who exists between those extremes is someone very special, someone I definitely want to know much better.”

The joy and overwhelming pleasure glowed in his eyes. “I’ve instructed my attorney to come to some sort of an arrangement with my ex so that she will truly be my ex-wife as soon as possible. I don’t want to have to sneak around and wonder when the next situation like the pseudo reporter will present itself with my ex trying to pressure me by putting other people on the spot. I don’t want her compromising your reputation, and the best way of preventing it is to finally dissolve the marriage—whatever it takes to do it.”

His words had been the last thing she had expected to hear. She was almost afraid to say anything. “You did that for me?”

He brushed a quick yet emotion-laden kiss against her lips. “You never answered my question.” A twinge of nervous energy shivered through him. Had she purposely avoided the question? “Do you think the man between those extremes is someone you want to spend a lot of time with? Someone with whom you could develop a true and lasting relationship?”

She leaned forward and returned his tender kiss along with a warm and loving smile. “Oh, yes. That man is precisely the person I want in my life.”

He hadn’t realized he had been holding his breath until he expelled it. The joy welled inside him. The look on her face perfectly reflected what he felt. He held her in his arms as they savored the quiet moments of emotional togetherness. He had never been happier than he was at that moment.
