Epilogue 2

Thirty Minutes Later…

“Hey, Finn, I don’t think we can save your sweater. I’ll see if my niece can turn it into a cat bed for…” Jamie stopped when he came around the sofa.

Finn was out cold and the kitten was curled up in the corner of his neck and purring like a tiny motor. Jamie considered taking a picture. Finn would deny that it had ever happened. He would probably claim that he was asleep and the kitten must have escaped the basket and attacked him while he was unconscious. Jamie leaned over them and stroked between the kitten’s ears. It purred louder and stretched its paws. Jamie chuckled softly as he rubbed a velvety ear between his fingers.

“I don’t blame you, that’s one of my favorite spots too,” he said softly.

Jamie stood back and took stock. He’d only been gone long enough to rinse Finn’s soup bowl and mug and toss his laundry in the machine but he’d missed out on what had to have been one of the most adorable moments ever. He laughed quietly as he went to the other end of the sofa and gently lifted Finn’s feet so he could sit. He settled Finn’s feet on his lap and picked up his book off the end table. Jamie opened it and found the spot he’d left off on.

After reading the same sentence ten times, Jamie gave up. He shut the book and put it aside. He was too emotional and distracted to read. A wide grin filled his face as he watched Finn sleeping.
We’re going to have a family,
Jamie thought and his eyes filled with tears and the fluttering in his stomach was almost uncomfortable. His hand rubbed Finn’s foot distractedly and he became mesmerized by the steady rise and fall of Finn’s chest. Jamie couldn’t imagine loving anyone more but he instinctively knew that his love for Finn would never stop growing and a child would make his feelings for Finn more intense. And he would love their child just as much or more. Jamie’s eyes grew wide and his heart felt like it was going to break through his ribs.

Love wasn’t supposed to happen to Jamie. Definitely not a love like this. While he never wanted to hurt anyone and he’d hated every minute of it, Jamie had done some unforgivable things when he was undercover. Rose and Finn had forgiven him but Jamie knew that there were plenty of people that never would. He’d never forgive himself.

Somehow, Jamie had stumbled into a perfect life with a perfect man that he would never deserve. He slowly looked around the living room, letting his eyes drift across the numerous photos on the shelves. Everywhere he looked he was next to Finn and smiling. The last three years had been the most beautiful of Jamie’s life. They had a magical wedding, traveled, hosted unforgettable parties and were local celebrities because of their Halloween costumes. He imagined a tiny face in the pictures with them and Jamie shut his eyes, trying to stop them from filling with tears.

Whatever the reason for his extraordinary luck, Jamie never took it for granted and did his best to give back as much as he could. He silently prayed that one day the number of people that wished him well and considered him a decent man would outweigh the number of people that wished him to hell.

Mostly, Jamie prayed that Finn would know just how deeply he was loved. Finn said that Jamie had given him everything. Finn was wrong. Finn was everything. He was Jamie’s life. Before Finn, Jamie didn’t believe he’d have a happy ending. He certainly didn’t expect kittens and babies. Jamie chuckled as he gently massaged Finn’s calf. He never would have believed it if anyone had told him he’d turn into a watery mess over kittens and babies.

Finn mumbled something under his breath as he shifted and Jamie’s head tilted as he tried to hear. It was slurred and too soft. Jamie’s eyes slid down Finn’s chest until they fell into his crotch. Jamie looked away and tried to distract himself but it was too late. Warmth pooled in his groin and his eyes swung back to Finn’s grey sweatpants. He bit his lip as he considered.
He’s sick, he needs rest,
Jamie nodded in agreement. Finn shifted again and a bulge pushed against the thick, soft fabric and Jamie knew it was pointless.
You’re going to have to wake him up to get him into bed anyway, you might as well enjoy it,
Jamie decided. A wicked grin tilted his lips as he parted Finn’s legs and kneeled between them.

“Finn…” Jamie called gently as his hands glided slowly up Finn’s thighs.
