The glare of headlights came into sight off in the distance and I breathed a sigh of relief. They were coming for us. They would see what happened and I wouldn’t have to deal with Clara, because I couldn’t think right now. The throbbing and thrumming in my ears was now joined with a high pitched squeal that seemed to be internal. My ear drums were literally screaming.

I couldn’t think over this shit. I just wanted to go home. I just wanted to go to sleep.

I must have been really out of it. I should have noticed the headlights were coming from the wrong direction. I didn’t realize until it was too late. I didn’t realize it until the two men we had confronted earlier were stepping out of their truck and rushing toward me. I turned to run, but he was faster than he looked and I was wobbly on my feet. The pussy went for my hair, yanking me back by my ponytail. It hurt like a bitch and I screamed as I fell back against him.

I fought, yanking and throwing myself away from him. I managed to get my second knife free, but I felt like I was in slow motion. I got away for the second time and began running, but again he managed to catch up to me, this time yanking me back by my shirt, ripping it with the force of his attack. I kicked back, dragging my boot down making sure to get the treads in deep into his shin.

Then I turned around to face him, slamming the knife into his stomach.

This time I heard his bellow of rage and he slammed me with a

hard, closed fist in the face. I had never been punched before. Light exploded around me and there was a clanging in my head like a bell.
This is what it meant to have your bell rung.
I could feel myself falling. Something stopped me.

It was the other man. He yanked me back toward him violently. His arm went around my neck and pushed down on my windpipe. I was gasping for breath, but he kept up the pressure until I was seeing stars and the black was creeping into my vision.

“Mine…bitch…coming….me.” I made out only a few garbled words as he spit them into my damaged ear. My nose was unfortunately working just fine and I could smell his stink, Not quite as bad as the stench of Z, but close.

“Fuck you,” I sputtered, right before the black took over and my whole body spiraled down into only one point of consciousness that quickly just clicked off. Alexis out.
