Darryl smiled and grabbed Mason’s arm. “I want us—” He pointed to each of them before continuing. “—to go on. No one feeling left out or unsure of where they stand. All right?”

* * * *

Val slid her arm around Mason’s waist and snuggled close. He hesitated in returning her quick hug. She understood his reaction. It was time for her to speak up. “Mason, remember when you said you cared about me, possibly as much as Darryl?”

“Yes.”

“I’m fine with that. I want to be with you both. There are going to be times when I will want to be alone with you or Darryl. We’ll work that out. I want us to go on. Do you?” She touched Mason’s chest. “What does your heart tell you?”

Val linked her hand with Darryl’s. “I’d love to know my new family is here to stay. What about you guys?”

* * * *

Mason watched Val squeeze Darryl’s hand as she squeezed his. Darryl’s hand rested loosely on his shoulder. Darryl had stated more than once his views on sharing Val with him. In Spokane, they’d broken down several barriers that had stood between them. Each of them had risked voicing how they felt as part of their last sleepy discussion the night before he left.

Mason rubbed his lips together and licked them. It was his turn to say what he wanted, along with how he felt. Looking at Darryl and Val one more time, Mason inhaled and gathered his thoughts. Each watched him intently, waiting to hear what he had to say.

“You’ve both given a thumbs-up to our family going on and working through things. I wish we knew with more certainty how everything will turn out. That’s my uneasiness talking.”

Darryl gripped his shoulder. “I understand. Sometimes you’ve got to take the risk to see where the road leads you. Val and I talked about the same thing this morning.”

Val smiled. “Way I see it is we’ve got more knowns than unknowns. I’m willing to take the chance with those odds.”

Mason leaned over and kissed Val. He didn’t just brush his lips over hers lightly. He captured her bottom lip between his and sucked gently. Val parted her lips and met his tongue with hers. She turned into his embrace and deepened their kiss.

Two weeks ago, he’d been feeling left out and at odds over desiring Val. Even commenting to Darryl about her being a hottie had seemed out of place. It had taken a freak snowstorm to get them together to spark their frank discussions and act on their mutual desires. Here he was Frenching Val in front of Darryl with no qualms. It felt right and natural. Yes, he wanted their family to go on. He was sure they’d work things out along the way.

Darryl whistled softly. “Fireworks already. Wooohoooo!”

Mason broke off the kiss, resting his forehead on Val’s. “Yes, even more to come. I’m in on our family.”

Val’s muffled cheer soon lost volume as both men pulled her into their embrace.

Chapter Twenty-One

Six weeks later

Mason stood outside waiting for the bank to open. Today they closed on the house. Darryl and Val would meet him at the closing after they finished packing the last few items in Val’s car. The movers were in route to the house. They’d arrive in two days. Finding the house in San Francisco, along with their new jobs, had taken them all by surprise. Little known about merger talks between two regional airlines had helped cement their move.

None of this seemed possible at first. Each of them had believed the other wanted something different. Heated arguments and passionate make-up sex had left each of them better understanding themselves. They’d grown more cohesive the more they talked. No matter what, they were family.

Where they went from here used to be an unknown. Now he had the knowns he needed. Even their new friends in San Francisco had introduced them to others who lived their lifestyle choice. The local polyamory community had welcomed them with open arms. There was still much to learn and do.

Together they’d get through it just as they had so far, three in love and a triad.
