“Want me to make coffee?”
“Will you drink some too?”
He shook his head. “I’m gonna go home and crash. I’ll make some for you, though.”
“Thanks, but I’ll get some at the hospital.”
I got up from the bed and reached for the robe on the chair next to my bed, slipping into it as soon as I was out of bed. Then I headed for the bathroom but stopped halfway across the room. When I turned to say something to Carson, he was standing next to the bed, searching for his boxers. He was absolute perfection—all long lines and muscles.
“I’m not sure if thank you is the right thing to say, but last night and this morning were just amazing for me,” I said.
“Me too.” He slid into his boxers and jeans, approaching me once he was dressed. “I want to see you again, Joss. As soon as possible.”
“Maybe we can compare schedules and I can take some nights off when you’re off. Soon.”
“Yeah, that sounds good,” he said. “And maybe a lunch date tomorrow?”
I nodded, reaching up to comb my hands through my tangled hair. My robe came open, and Carson slid his hands around my waist.
“If you touch me, I’m gonna be late,” I said reluctantly. “I’ll shove you back onto the bed and ride you for the next half hour.”
“Damn, woman. Is that supposed to make me stop?” His hands had moved to my ass, which he squeezed so tightly I moaned. I wanted more of him. Those few hours hadn’t begun to satisfy the appetite I had for him.
“I’d so love to stay in bed with you all day,” I said.
He let go of my ass and kissed my forehead. “Soon.”
I rushed to the bathroom and cleaned myself up. Carson was waiting in the kitchen when I finished, and we walked out to his truck.
The drive back to the hospital almost felt more intimate than the sex had. He linked his fingers loosely in mine and drove with his other hand on the wheel. We talked about the day ahead and our plans for lunch the next day. And when he dropped me off, he opened my door and helped me out of the truck, sending me off with a tender kiss.
“See you soon,” he said. “Text me later if you want.”
“I will.” I waved before turning toward the door, knowing the smile on my face would be impossible to get rid of today.
OB was so busy no one noticed me when I walked in. On a whim, I went to the main desk and located the Magic 8 ball. I sat down and shook it beneath the desk so no one would see.
My voice was a low whisper. “Magic 8, could this thing with Carson actually be something?”
I kept shaking the ball, not wanting to stop out of a superstitious fear of what it would say. The glow of my time with Carson was still lighting me from the inside out, and I didn’t want anything to dim it.
Squeezing my eyes shut, I stopped shaking and then snuck a peek, breaking out in a wide grin.
“Signs point to yes,”
I whispered.
