She lifted her legs to wrap around his hips
as he thrust into her and then there was nothing but movement and
sound. Pleasure and promises. Joy and reassurance.

Beau loved her hard and fast, against the
shower wall as the water shushed over them, enhancing the
experience for her. When it was over, Geir was there to support her
under the water as Beau took a seat on the small tile ledge at one
end of the big shower stall.

She felt almost boneless, but Geir held her
up, soaping her body and caring for her in the intimate ways of a
mate. His every touch spoke of his care for her and before long,
she felt her desire rise once more. When he positioned her with her
face toward the wall of the shower, she wasn’t sure what he had in
mind, but then he bent his knees and entered her from behind, the
water slick between their bodies.

He pumped hard and fast and within moments
he was growling in her ear as she screamed his name, the sound
echoing off the tile to bounce around the room. They stood together
under the spray for a long moment after, letting the water take
away any aches and pains, all thoughts of tomorrow or yesterday.
There was only now. And now was damn fine, indeed.

Epilogue

The next morning, Harper Sagtakos sat with
Ben Steel and the High Priestess Bettina at the dining room table
long after the others had left to start their day. Geir, Beau and
Jacki were down at the dojo. Tad and Mandy had moved back to their
place with their cub. Harper wasn’t sure where the Nyx and her mate
were, but he assumed they would be showing up soon to get his
answer on their proposition.

Harper had spent a good portion of the night
in meditation and prayer. He had sought the guidance of the Great
Spirit and he thought he knew what he was supposed to do. He had
made a decision and it felt right in his heart. Now he just had to
speak his truth to the others and watch how they would react.

Ben had spent the last twenty minutes going
over strategies for ways he could support Harper as a double agent,
if he agreed to the scheme. Bettina had simply sat and watched, her
ageless gaze giving away little of her thoughts. Harper was at
peace with his decision. He sat quietly and let the day unfold
around him. His spirit was calm, which told him he had made the
right decision.

Ria and Jake arrived with their ever-present
security and sat down at the table. There was a calmness about the
couple that appealed greatly to Harper. He had already learned much
from these shapeshifters and their allies. He hoped the
relationship would continue long into the future—and it would, if
Jake’s prophecy should truly come to pass. Harper looked forward to
finding out if Jake really was as good a seer as everyone
claimed.

After greetings of the day were exchanged,
Ria and Jake faced Harper across the span of the wooden table. They
watched him carefully as if gauging his every move, but he had
trained himself to motionlessness. He was at peace.

“So what’s the verdict?” Ria asked. “Will
you help us protect ourselves, and perhaps clean up the evil
infiltration into the
Altor Custodis,
by being our man
inside?”

Everyone seemed to hold their breath in
anticipation of his answer, but really, there was only one possible
response. His meditations had told him that not only his entire
future, but that of many innocent and good people, depended on his
decision. It was a weighty responsibility, but Harper wasn’t weak.
He had trained most of his life for this. There was only one real
choice…

“I’m in.”
