Brie gripped the edge of the table. “Define intervened, daddy.”

“BrieAnn, your mama and I are overprotective, I know that, but this situation had to stop.”

“Tell me what you did.”

Almost in a whisper that was laced with steel, the judge said, “I made it very clear to Beau that if he did not stop seeing you on all accounts I would give Detective McCabe that warrant for the Cove he so badly wants and then Beau’s daddy would wind up in jail just where he belongs. That’s what I was telling Ray Cleveland last night. If he didn’t get Beau away from you I’d see he went to prison for a long time.”

“You threatened the man I love? And you threatened his family?”

“BrieAnn, you do not love this man.”

“More now than ever knowing what he had to endure to protect his own father from you. You are reprehensible and I no longer want us to be in the same room. In fact I don’t want to be in the same city with you.”

She stood and tossed her napkin in her chair. “Bebe, we need to go.” She said to her father, “Do not follow us or I will throw the biggest hissy Savannah has ever seen, and, as we both know, that covers a lot of territory.”

“BrieAnn, please.” Her father’s eyes were sad and tired, but no more so than her heart. She choked back a sob and somehow made it across the patio and out the back exit, then she ran to the line of trees, found the overgrown archway, and fought her way though the brush, not caring diddly about her hair or shoes or anything else except putting distance between herself and her father, the hero of her life. How could he?

“Wait up,” Bebe huffed from behind her. Covered in leaves and sticks, she caught up with Brie and took her arm. “Dear God, Brie, what was I thinking? It just came out. I should have waited till I had all the facts, that’s what I wanted to see the judge about today, to confront him and make him tell you that you were Ray’s daughter. I’m so sorry. I thought you had a right to know and then it turns out I have it all backward. I’m never going to figure out the answers to anything. I keep getting it wrong and this one was huge and hurt you.”

“And you thought I might be sleeping with my…not that Beau was my brother for real but plenty close enough to cause a fine scandal.” In spite of all the mess, a little laugh bubbled up her throat.

“Yeah, and there was that.”

“I can only imagine what Ray Cleveland told my father he could do with his warrant.” Brie sat down on the little bench and Bebe sat beside her. “Do you forgive me? I didn’t want to say anything to you until I talked to the judge and then he was there and I opened my big mouth.”

“Good thing you did or I wouldn’t have known about Daddy’s threatening Beau. Besides, you thought you were protecting me and you stood up to Daddy for that reason, and not all that many people can stand up to that man.” She kissed Bebe on the cheek. “You had the right intentions, just the wrong conclusion.”

She picked a pink tulip and studied it. “So on a happier note, you and Donovan were at the Cove last night spying on my father and I’m guessing you didn’t go home alone. When you were at the morgue last night I saw the way he looks at you and the way you look at him. He’s a keeper, Bebe.”

“Honey, he’s a Yank!” They both giggled the way they used to back in high school when they shared a secret about a boyfriend. “You’ll just have to convert him, is all. Now I’m going inside that house of mine and pack a suitcase and get out of here. I’m done with this town and my parents. I can’t stay one minute longer.”

Bebe’s eyes rounded. “What about me and Prissy and Charlotte? Pinky swear? Blood sisters forever? Sound familiar? For crying out loud, you can’t just up and leave us.”

“I’m going to find Beau. Thunderbolt is fifteen miles away. I’m a Savannah belle; we don’t travel all that far from our roots. I’ll text and let you know what’s happening, well some of what’s happening.” She pursed her lips and batted her eyes. “Beau Junior is a cute name, don’t you think?” She rocked her arms as if holding a baby.

“BrieAnn!”

She went to the top of the stairs and held her arms wide to the world. “You’re looking at a woman in love who finally…and I do mean finally…intends to get herself some satisfaction that she so richly deserves.”

Afternoon sun and a sea breeze wafted through the back kitchen screen door. Beau laid out two pieces of toast, topped them with thin slices of turkey, then ham and tomato, and covered it all in Ray’s special cheese sauce. Savannah hot brown, was there anything better? Southern comfort food at its best. After lying to Brie about there being another woman in his life he needed some comfort. He felt lower than a snake’s belly, but what else could he do?

Picking up the platter with one hand, he opened the oven with the other as BrieAnn stepped through the screen door looking more lovely than ever.

“You know, sweet thing, if you keep eating that stuff you got there, you’ll have a heart attack before you’re thirty.”

“I’m already thirty-two. Brie? What are you doing here? You can’t be here. You have to go right now and—”

“I talked to my daddy.”

“Oh, crap.” Beau kicked the oven closed and put down the platter. “This warrant thing is nothing to fool with. Your daddy’s not fooling around here. He’s serious and if he gives the warrant to Donovan—”

“He’ll never see his daughter or his grandbabies again and he may not see them for a very long while as it is.” She held out her suitcase and dropped it in the middle of the kitchen with a solid thunk.

“Grandbabies?”

She sauntered toward him, twitching her hips and strutting her stuff and Brie never strutted, except for now…and when she tried to seduce him on the boat. That was a great saunter. She slid her arms around his middle and reached into his back pocket, taking out his wallet. Opening it, she retrieved the condom he had there, dropped it on the floor and stamped on it. She looked him in the eyes. “Grandbabies.”

She brought her mouth to his. “Lots of grandbabies. Unless you have any of those sexually transmitted diseases you hear about. I want you, Beau Cleveland, just the way God made you all unencumbered, and I’m damn tired of waiting to have you. Where’s
your
daddy?”

“Ray? Minding the lunch crowd. I do dinner. We split it up that way so we both get some time off and I don’t have any diseases and…grandbabies?”

“You expecting anyone else to come calling?”

He shook his head, because he didn’t have any more words. She smiled and winked. Then she kicked off her sandals and shrugged out of her blouse, revealing her tiny pink bra. “Good thing,” she purred. Then she pushed aside the hot-browns and slid herself up onto the table and held out her arms. “Lunch is served.”

“I can’t.” He scooped her into his arms, the feel of her bare skin taking his breath away. “I mean I can’t do what you want to do here right on this table. Honey, I’d never be able to eat another bite off this thing from thinking about…us doing what we want to do.”

She buried her face in his neck, her hypnotic perfume filling his head, her giggles making his heart sing. He never had a singing heart before. In fact when he heard someone say such a thing or heard it in a song, he thought it was just plain stupid. Now Brie was really here with him smelling like sinful seduction and feeling like heaven. He got the singing thing. Kissing her all the while, he walked up the flight of steps to his room and gently laid her down in his bed. Seagulls cried outside his windows, the sound of the sea gently lapping carried up from below, the sky the bluest blue he’d ever seen in all his years.

“Come to me, Beau.” She looked up at him, her auburn hair flowing out across his white pillow, her pink nipples pressing against lace.

“I want to remember you like this. Everything perfect because I swear I never thought it would happen. There was so much keeping us apart and yet, here you are.”

“Here we are.”

He sat beside her, the bed giving under his weight. He touched her cheek and as her delicious lips parted he kissed them, the sweet taste of BrieAnn Montgomery warming him all over as if he’d taken a bite of sunshine.

Her arms circled his neck, bringing his chest to hers, and he slid his hand under and unsnapped her bra. He kissed her neck and cleavage, then eased up her bra, taking her left nipple slowly, deeply into his mouth.

She sighed, the sound turning him on all the more. He licked her right nipple, making it hard and exquisite. “You’re wonderful and I have to see all of you. I can’t wait another minute, sugar. Seems I’ve been waiting forever.” He peeled her bra from her shoulders, then ran his finger down her middle, across her delicate navel, and unsnapped her slacks. The waistband opened to a thin ribbon of matching pink. Kissing her navel, he inched her pants open more to lace panties guarding the small dark patch of curls beneath he desperately wanted. Bending his head, he kissed there, the hot scent of sex surrounding him and driving him wild.

“I need you, Beau,” she pleaded. “I need more.”

He pulled off her slacks, taking the panties and revealing the small triangle, smooth thighs, then calves, then she was gloriously naked. “You’re mine, all mine, I can’t believe it. How’d I get so damn lucky?”

She giggled. “You haven’t gotten lucky yet, sugar, but if you keep flattering me that way it could just happen.”

He slid his fingers over her thigh, parted her legs, then touched the lips of her wet sex, waiting for him, wanting him, opening for him. Her breath caught and she grabbed his arm, her legs parting wider, giving him full access to her delicious secrets. “Oh, Beau, what you do to me. I’m so hot for you, honey.”

A scorching fire roared through him as he slid in two fingers, stroking her faster, pushing deeper with each caress. Three fingers, her eyes glazing. He rubbed her clit with his thumb, applying more pressure, then covered her soft whimpers with his mouth, his tongue promising what was to come till she climaxed, her body quivering and tensing, her arms grabbing him so tight.

“Oh, Beau,” she panted, her hot breath on his neck. “How could you and I didn’t get a chance to do you and that’s not right at all.”

He gazed down at Brie, his Brie. “It was perfect. You are incredible and making love to you is a dream come true for me. I’ve laid in this bed thinking of you, wanting you with me forever and now…”

“I want to make love to you, too.” She gazed at his body stretched next to hers, and she squirmed out from under him and sat up.

“Going somewhere?”

“Oh, I hope so. And this time I’m taking you with me.” She pushed him over onto his back and straddled his thighs, her delicious hot sex open and wide and wet across him. She unsnapped his jeans and before he could consider his legs and the scars there, she grabbed his jeans and yanked them and the briefs clean off him with more strength than a woman her size should possess. She tossed the jeans on the floor. And there he was in full view with all the scars he’d warned her about. But warning and seeing were two different things, and if she ran away he wouldn’t blame her one bit.

“Well now, it looks like the doctors stitched you together pretty darn good, Beau Cleveland.”

She put her hands to her hips. “But what went and happened to your do-da? It’s looking all pitiful at the moment and you have to know I’m not in the mood for pitiful. I’ve waited much too long, been through too much drama for plain old limp-dick pitiful.”

“And I got to tell you this is embarrassing as hell.”

“You? You! And what about me? I’m the one begging and pleading here. But I’m thinking not for long.” She took his limp dick between her silky hands, massaged and stroked, the limpness quickly fading.

“Well I’ll be. You see that. It’s coming back to life fine and dandy. Raising from the dead, it is. But it’s still in need of some special Southern belle kind of resuscitating.” And she took his erection into her delectable mouth, driving every ounce of oxygen right out of his body.

“Dear God, Brie,” he hissed, his fists tangled in the sheets, fighting for control. “What are you doing to me, girl?” Her mouth was magic, her tongue and lips driving him to the brink.

Finally she said, “I’m firing your engines, honey, the best way I know how. And you know what, I think you’re liking it.” Then she licked the full length of him. The sensation was out of this world and watching Brie make love to him more erotic than anything he’d ever experienced.

“BrieAnn, honey. I’m only human.”

“Amen to that, Beau Cleveland.” She smiled wickedly. “Feeling a bit better now? Some would say you’re looking downright frisky. I think I like the frisky part, Beau.” She smiled and bit at her bottom lip as if hiding a secret. “Why, I think we have a new name here. Beau, Brie and…Frisky.”

Never in a million years would he have thought the prim and proper Miss Montgomery would…name his dick! Just when he thought he knew everything about the South and the people and the women, this woman came into his life. “Where did you learn…How do you know just what to do?”

“Instinct. We women here in Savannah do know how to please our man, and sometimes it takes a bit more than fried chicken and cream gravy.” Then she took his full length into her mouth again, making every cell in his body throb and his head nearly spin clean off his shoulders.

“Enough, sweetheart, enough.”

Her eyes were pools of fire. “Never enough, Beau. And I’m thinking from here on out it’s your turn.” She gave him a sexy pose with her arms folded under her breasts pushing them up and out like some offering. “So come and get me, big boy, and I am emphasizing the big part.” She eyed his dick. “Are you man enough?”
