Piper laughed, and then turned her gaze on Wolf. “Suri warned me you’re a man of few words.”

“I spend a lot of time alone.” He shrugged. “I don’t get much practice. Especially, with women.”

“That’s okay. I’m not a huge talker either.”

Her gaze held his, boldly, maybe with a hint of challenge, and more of his tension eased. He might not be a great conversationalist, but he was very, very good at reading people—although usually from eight hundred yards. But standing inches from Piper, and locking with her pretty green gaze, he knew one thing for certain. She was attracted.

A slight blush colored her cheeks, and her gaze slid away toward the water.

Wolf raised his bottle and clinked it gently against hers. “Nice to meet you, Piper.”

“You found your tongue.”

“Can you blame me for losing it?” His gaze swept her body.

She arched one dark auburn eyebrow. “I’m wearing more than a lot of girls wear when they’re on the beach.”

Wolf’s chest was rising and falling faster, and he wished for his scope to still the excitement racing through him. The sight of her, so close, so golden, was only slightly more alluring than her scent. “You smell amazing,” he said, drawing in a deep breath.

She laughed, and then blushed brighter. “I don’t think a man has every said that to me before.”

“Sorry if it was too personal, but it’s hard to think.”

“Because I smell so good?”

“Because I want to kiss you.”

She shook her head, but she didn’t step away or look particularly alarmed. “Think Suri might stop staring through the window if you did?”

The corners of his mouth kicked upward. “I didn’t scare you?”

“You’re…kind of intense. But I’m not scared.”

He liked the even tone of her voice. She hadn’t gone all breathy like most women. And her gaze was steady. So he took a chance. “Maybe we should just get it over with.”

She held her hand against her chest and fluttered her eyelids. “You are a romantic man.”

He grunted. “You know I’m not.”

“And it seems I don’t care,” she said softly. “Let’s do it.” She set aside her beer and raised her arms to place her hands on his shoulders.

With his heart beginning to pound, he set his drink beside hers, and then eased closer, smoothing his hands over her ass, hoping she’d allow it, daring her to protest.

Piper’s blush was a brilliant red, but she tilted her face. Inviting him.

Dayum.
As he bent, something inside Wolf seemed to click. The girl. The moment. One shot. He’d better not miss.

Chapter Three

PIPER THOUGHT SHE was ready for his kiss. They’d flirted from the moment they’d eyed each other up close. Before she’d arrived, she’d been prepared to give him shit to make him back off any idea of coming on to her. But her strategy backfired. They’d ended up challenging each other. And now their brash game of one-up-manship was ending in a kiss.

Only, the kiss didn’t feel like any kind of closure. His hands on her ass had shocked her, but now she was glad, because he drew her lower body closer, and she could feel every blatant inch of his interest. He might not have the most facile tongue in conversation, but he certainly had the right equipment to make a girl very satisfied indeed.

And his mouth? His taste was pleasant—beer and a faint hint of mint. Her head swam as he pulled on her lips, suctioning gently to seal their connection. His firm mouth rubbed, opening and closing, making her wish that same drugging motion was on her nipples or the hardening knot at the top of her sex.

Even before he thrust his tongue inside, she couldn’t stop her knees from shaking.
That
had never happened before. And then he did come inside her, and she sighed with relief, making a little whimpering sound in the back of her throat which incited his throaty groan. Good lord, his tongue was skillful, playing with the tip of hers, showing her how he’d touch her clit, first with gentle touches, and then with lavish strokes.

His thigh slid between hers, and she didn’t give him a hard knee to the groin, as she should have. Instead, she rode the muscled thickness, grinding on it for relief that only managed to make her hotter.

In the end, Wolf was the one who drew back. With his chest rising and falling against hers, he kept his mouth hovering just above hers, his gaze searching hers for something. Permission, maybe? Or was he just making sure her nostrils were as flared as his, her pupils just as wide.

His hands smoothed upward to grip her bared waist. “Think that did the trick?” he whispered.

She nodded. “Sure…wow.”

His mouth twitched, and he nuzzled her cheek briefly. “Yeah. The feeling’s mutual, Piper Ames.” But then he moved her backward, reached for her drink, which he passed to her shaky hand, then he took her other hand inside his. “Let’s get something to eat. Maybe talk. Or not. I’d like you at my side, but I’ll understand if you thought I came on too strong.”

He had. But she wasn’t complaining. And she liked the way her hand felt inside his much larger, callused one. So she let him tug her along, past his buddies who were making a poor attempt to hide their smiles, to the patio table.

After he pulled out a chair for her, he sat next to her, resting their clasped hands on his thigh. “Suri says you’re here on vacation. You alone?”

“I am.” She shrugged. “I like the beach. I had the time. Why not come alone?”

“No boyfriend to drag along?”

Her brow wrinkled, and she dropped her stare to their hands. “Think I’d let you touch me if I had one of those?”

“I don’t know. We just met.”

“Well, I don’t…have one, that is. You?” she asked, tilting her chin.

“No one.”

Good.
She shouldn’t care, but since her mind was already blown, and she was thinking of any excuse to continue what they’d started, she was glad she wasn’t stepping on some other woman’s territory. She bent her head to hide her smile, but he tipped up her chin, his gaze narrowing on her mouth. The combination of the gesture and the look made the moment so much hotter. Like he wouldn’t allow her the privacy of her own thoughts. Her body thrilled, because he’d already given her so many hints of what kind of lover he’d be.

With her free hand, she fanned her face. “Whew, it’s hot out here.”

“Maybe we shouldn’t be drinking.”

But his direct gaze wasn’t disapproving—he was telling her silently that he didn’t want any of their senses blunted by alcohol. “I’ll switch to water,” she said softly.

The glass door glided open, and Suri swept outside. She set dishes on the table—a basket filled with flour and corn tortillas, fresh roasted corn, rice and pinto beans. “I’ll check on those steaks. You two stay right there.”

Piper watched as the other woman sidled up next to her man and leaned into his side. “She’s nice,” she said, giving Wolf a smile.

“But she’s not very subtle.”

So he knows?
She raised her brows.

He shrugged. “They’re all leaving tomorrow. I think this introduction is her way of making sure I won’t be alone.”

Piper chuckled. “Sweet of her to arrange a hook-up.”

He drew a sharp breath. “Sorry if that bothers you. Don’t feel pressured.”

“I don’t. I’m kind of grateful.” Her gaze boldly roamed his tall, lean frame, ending with a smoldering gaze into his dark eyes. “I wasn’t sure how I’d fill my time…”

His gaze narrowed, dropping to her mouth. He shifted in his chair. “And now, I won’t be able to stand for while,” he muttered.

Unable to resist, she glanced downward. The thick khaki shorts failed to conceal his problem. Slowly, she moved their joined hands to the large bulge forming beneath his fly. “I’m not usually this forward,” she whispered, as she leaned close, “but I don’t mind keeping you company until your problem resolves.”

“Piper.” He chewed her name, emitting a low growl. “We still have a meal to get through.”

She laughed. “Just letting you know, I love dessert.” She liked the way his blush crept across his cheeks and the way his eyes darkened. His features, so handsome already, sharpened, which only set her own senses into overdrive. Everything about the man was potent and masculine. Why not enjoy him while she did a little digging to make sure he wasn’t a threat to her and Calvin’s little sting? If Alana dropped in, Calvin would be sure to ring her; the phone in her pocket was set to vibrate.

Wolf’s mouth curved. “Anyone ever tell you that you move fast?”

“And you don’t?”

“Never met my match.”

Winging her eyebrow into an arch, she smiled. “Well, now you know her name.”

They were interrupted by loud footsteps and clearing throats. Jax and Deke set platters of steaks and roasted peppers on the table, and then took their seats.

Suri brought out a bottle of wine, and her jaw nearly dropped when first Wolf, and then Piper, covered their glasses. “I’ll get some Perrier,” she said, winking as she left.

The meal was delicious, and Piper was appreciative, letting all the cooks know how much she enjoyed it. But she didn’t want to linger at the table.

After they all enjoyed the brilliant sunset, Wolf leaned toward her ear. “Want to take a walk along the beach?”

“Only if you bring a blanket,” she whispered back.

One side of his mouth quirked upward. “Be back in a sec.” With a lithe move, he stood and headed toward the sliding door.

Suri leaned toward her. “Well? You two seem to be hitting it off.”

Piper laughed. “He’s sweet.”

Jax and Deke bent at the waist as they erupted in laughter.

Suri gave them both dirty glances, but smiled at Piper. “I’m glad. We’re leaving in the morning. I hate to think of him all alone.”

“I don’t think he’ll be wanting for company,” Piper said, grinning.

Moments later Wolf returned, a blanket folded over one arm, and his friends laughed again. Wolf shook his head and gave Piper a baleful look. “Ignore them.”

“Of course, I won’t.” She turned to the two tall, handsome men and gave them a wide smile. “If I don’t see you before you leave, thanks again for the wonderful meal.” She gave a wave to Suri, all the farewell she could manage, because Wolf’s hand was on her arm, urging her away.

Wolf hurried her from the patio and down to the beach. They walked toward her narrow private strip of sand. Now, they were hidden from view by the privacy fence.

“Would you like to swim?”

She liked how direct he was. No wasted words, just a quick suggestion accompanied by his dark, intense gaze. “I don’t have a suit,” she said, her mouth twitching.

“Nice. I don’t either.”

Without any further conversation, they began to strip, each watching as the other’s flesh was bared. Her pulse hitched up a notch.

When her last piece of clothing hit the sand, he stilled, his hands pausing at the waistband of his shorts as he raked her with an all-encompassing glance. “You’re beautiful, Piper.”

Lord, I can’t believe I’m doing this.
What was it about him that forced the slut inside her to the surface? Had to be his watchful eyes. Or maybe the set of his jaw. Like he expected her to balk at the last minute.

But the sensible side of her was her biggest cheerleader.
You’ll never have a guy like this again. And you still don’t know if he’s after Pérez, too.

Both were excuses. The plain truth was she wanted him. She stepped closer and shooed his hands from his shorts. Then she tucked hers inside his waistband and curved them around his firm buttocks. “I like everything I’ve seen, too.” Her gaze dropped to his still-clothed groin. “But I haven’t had my dessert.”

Holding his gaze, she dropped to her knees and dragged his shorts downward, careful to hold them outward as his cock was freed and bounded into view. Her breath caught. He was fully aroused, thick and straight. So damn big she knew she’d feel stretched when he stroked inside her. Following her instinct, she closed her eyes and rubbed her cheek along his length, drawing in his musky-clean scent.

His fingers combed through her hair, then clutched it, dragging her away. “Careful there,” he said.

“Think I don’t know what I’m doing?”

His mouth quirked at one side. “Thought we were swimming.”

She gave him a wide-eyed look. “I thought that was just a euphemism for having sex.”

“Your mouth is an inch from my dick, and I’ve been hard since we met. I should swim. First.”

Left unsaid was that he needed to steal back control. “I could take the edge off,” she said, sneaking her fingers around his cock. He was hot, so firm. Her pussy tightened, and her pulse raced.

“Swim,” he said, pulling her hair again.

And because she loved that twinge of pain and the hard edge of his voice, she slid away her fingers. “Think it’s safe?” she said, hoping he could see the arch of her brow in the moonlight. “I wouldn’t want anything nibbling on this but me.”

“Piper, I want nothing more than to fuck your mouth, but the first time we’re together…I want to spend time getting to know what makes
you
crazy.”

“Suri was a liar,” she said, “You know exactly what to say.” She held up her hand and let him pull her to her feet. She swayed purposely into his body, and rubbed against his erection like a kitten. Turning her face, she ran her lips along his square jaw. “I can’t wait. So, let’s swim.”

WHILE HE WATCHED her run toward the waves, he hoped like hell his buddies were minding their own business. Or that Suri didn’t have his scope out of his duffel and trained on the sight of Piper’s firm ass. Fuck, he couldn’t believe he’d just turned down a blow job from her luscious mouth, but he wanted to start this thing right. For however long they had together, he wanted to drown in pleasure. Forget who he was, what he was, and especially every damn minute of his last deployment. The best way to make sure she was on the same page was to give her a taste of what he’d bring.

He might not be good with women in the long-term, but he knew his way around the female body, and there wasn’t much he was squeamish about doing. He loved everything about a woman’s anatomy—soft sensitive breasts, hot juicy cunts, and if she wasn’t too modest, he loved the intense grip of another tight place.

Given her blessing, he’d turn Piper inside out. Just the thought of all the things he’d do made him so hard he felt his balls draw up tight. He followed her into the surf, keeping his gaze on her bobbing head and shoulders. Two running strides and he dove into the waves, gritting his teeth as the cool water washed over his hot cock and balls. Moments later, he drew beside her.

She was smiling. “Water’s a little chilly,” she said, bobbing upward and giving him a view of her pebbled nipples.

“You don’t stop, do you?”

“Would you be as interested if I did?”

He laughed and shook his head. Then he took a deep breath and dove beneath the surface, reaching out for one of her legs. He pulled her under, and then forced her body to glide against his. They turned in the water, rubbing together, his thigh sliding between hers, their hands moving freely, until she kicked away and surfaced. He followed, watching as she drew deep breaths.

Then she laughed and struck out for shore.

He caught her ankle and pulled her back. “Let me,” he said, turning her until her back was to him. Then reaching around her body, his arm beneath hers, his hand grasping a breast, he floated her on his hip and side-stroked to the beach. When his feet touched sand, he let her go, and they stood facing each other. Waves lapped against them like soapy caresses.

Piper moved in, gripped his shoulders, and then wrapped her silky long legs around his waist. Leaning toward his mouth, she whispered, “Now if anyone’s watching, they won’t see very much.”
