“There is that too.”

Kajakti sighed. “Tomorrow Ketah said he and Haven would drop
Jaren and me off at the Canadian consulate for Jaren to apply to have her
passport replaced. Once she gets that out of the way, I’ll tell her
everything.”

“I think that’s a wise decision. Brice still hasn’t been
able to find any leads from that old warehouse Andre and Tanner had kept Haven
captive in. Whoever this Andre is, he does well in covering his tracks.”

Brice was the local werewolf pack leader, and someone
Kajakti and his wolf brothers considered a good friend. “If he doesn’t want to
be found, he won’t. We were lucky we could follow Tanner to the warehouse. He
may be one of the dark wolves now but that doesn’t mean he’s smartened up any.”

“That’s what Brice thinks. He has members of his pack on the
lookout for Tanner. He’s our best bet to finding Andre again.”

“Hopefully Tanner will make another dumb move soon.” Kajakti
stood. “I guess I should go inside and see how Jaren is doing with dinner.”

Edensaw rose to his feet. “Good idea. And just so you know,
we all think Jaren is great. And not because she’s teaching Durlach to be a
better cook, though that does help.”

“I’m glad. I love her.”

“As you should since she’s your mate. Just remember to tell
her that when you reveal what you are. She needs to hear it from you.”

Kajakti nodded, then headed inside the house. The delicious
smells coming from the kitchen hit his nose and his stomach growled. He had a
feeling he’d smell many more tantalizing scents like that in the future. And
thanks to Jaren, he no longer would have to worry about Durlach giving any of
them food poisoning.

* * * * *

Later that evening, after everyone had devoured the great
meal Jaren and Durlach had prepared, Kajakti took his mate up to his bedroom.
He had patiently waited for a good time to slip away from the others so he
could whisk Jaren upstairs. Luckily she hadn’t minded.

Once the door was closed and locked behind them, they were
in each other’s arms, kissing as if they hadn’t touched in a week. And it would
be like this between them for some time. All newly mated couples spent a great
deal of time reaffirming their bond, keeping it strong. Kajakti and Jaren were no
different, not that his mate knew that’s what they were doing.

She broke away from him, then ran her gaze up and down his
body. “I guess you get to be my dessert since I didn’t make one. A pastry chef
I am not.”

“I’m fine with that,” he replied in a husky voice. “Does
that mean I can have you as well?”

Jaren gave him a sexy smile. “Of course, but I get to
partake of mine first.”

Kajakti held his arms out from his sides. “All right. Where
are you going to start?”

His mate placed her hand on the center of his chest and
pushed, getting him to walk backward. The back of Kajakti’s legs hit the bed.
Jaren trailed her fingers down to the bottom of his t-shirt, took hold of it,
then pulled it up and over his head. She stepped closer and dragged the flat of
her tongue over one of his nipples. He let out a strangled moan.

“You like that, huh?” Jaren asked against his skin. “And
yes, I know exactly where I want to start. Just don’t move.”

As she shifted to press kisses across his chest, Kajakti
knew he wouldn’t move even if the house were on fire. Jaren pressed a kiss
between his pecs, then worked a path downward with her lips and tongue. Scratch
that, he wouldn’t move even if the house were on fire
and
right in the
path of molten lava.

Kajakti practically panted by the time Jaren went down on
her knees in front of him, having kissed a trail from his stomach to the top of
his jeans. His cock was so hard it felt constricted inside his pants. But then
his mate undid the button and zipper, then pushed the article of clothing down
past his hips to pool at his ankles, taking his underwear with it.

He quickly toed off his shoes, stepped out of his jeans,
kicked them away and only bent long enough to remove his socks before he
straightened. Kajakti looked down to see Jaren eyed his cock and licked her
lips as if she anticipated tasting him. His shaft jerked, bobbing in front of
her face.

She took him in hand and stroked up and down. “Here is what
I’ve been craving.”

Kajakti barely managed to hold back a growl of need. So
turned-on he knew for sure his eyes had to be glowing, he closed them to mere
slits. But that didn’t stop him from keeping his gaze on Jaren.

His knees just about gave out when her tongue flicked out
and licked the bead of pre-cum off the head of his cock. A low growl pushed out
of him as she made a sound as if he was the best thing she’d ever tasted. She
tongued him again and he had to fist his hands at his sides to prevent himself
from taking her to the floor and shoving his dick between her legs. Even though
it would be a form of torture, he wanted her to continue what she was doing.

Jaren fisted his shaft at the base and sucked the tip into
her mouth. Her talented tongue swirled around it, paying extra attention to the
spot under the head. Kajakti’s eyes almost rolled back into his head.

But then she spread her lips wider and took his cock almost
to the back of her throat. She sucked him in and out, her head bobbing with her
movements. He moaned. Unable to hold still any longer, Kajakti rocked his hips,
matching the pace she set. In and out he slid as he fucked her mouth.

Jaren’s other hand came up and fondled his balls, rolling
them in her palm. Kajakti grew harder, his climax edging near. If she kept this
up much longer she’d have him coming.

“I really don’t want you to stop,” he said in a strained
voice, “but if you don’t I’m not going to be able to hold back for much
longer.”

She pulled her mouth off his cock and looked up at him. “If
you do, you’ll still be hard, right?”

“Yes.”

“Then it isn’t a problem.”

Jaren went back to sucking him off but with more gusto than
before. Her cheeks hollowed out with each pull she took on his cock. His balls
drew closer to his body. Kajakti put his hand on the back of her head and
stroked in and out. It didn’t take very long before he threw back his own and
groaned as his orgasm surged through him. His mate continued to suck until
she’d taken everything he had.

Once she’d given him one last lick, Jaren stood. Her cheeks
had taken on a pretty flush and the scent of her arousal wafted around her.
“That was the first half of my dessert, now I get the rest.”

She gave Kajakti a shove so he fell back onto the bed. He
pushed toward the middle of the mattress, then propped himself up on his elbows
to watch as Jaren stripped out of her clothes. With each tantalizing inch of
bare skin she exposed, the more he ached to be inside her, to join her body
with his.

After she’d taken off the last piece and had thrown it to
the floor, she climbed up next to him, then straddled his hips. Jaren placed
her hands on the top of his shoulders and leaned down to capture his mouth. She
kissed him hungrily, opening hers for his tongue when he swept it along her
lips.

Kajakti pulled his elbows out from under him and slowly
lowered until he was flat on his back. Jaren followed him down. He reached
between her legs and found her pussy wet with her desire. She moaned into his
mouth as he stroked a finger in and out of her. She was more than ready for
him.

“Enough,” Jaren said in between pants. “I want your cock inside
me.”

“And you’ll have it.”

He pulled his fingers out and gripped the base of his shaft
as Jaren positioned herself over it. She placed her hands on the mattress on
either side of his head and slowly pushed down on him. Her warm, silken inner
walls wrapped around his length as he impaled her. Once she’d taken all of him,
she rose onto her knees until only the head of his cock was lodged inside her,
then sank down again.

She rode him faster as moan after sexy moan pushed past her
lips. Her pussy gripped his shaft, increasing the pleasure Kajakti felt. He
arched his back to lift his hips, matching Jaren’s downward strokes.

Her movements became stilted just as Jaren let out a
whimpered cry and she came. Her inner muscles rhythmically clutched and
released his plunging cock. Seeing the pleasure she felt skate across her face
along with the sounds she made, it was enough to have Kajakti’s climax
thundering through him. He held on to her hips, surged into her one final time
hard enough to lift her knees off the mattress and came, his shaft emptying
deep inside her pussy.

Jaren settled onto his chest with her head resting on the
bed next to his. Her breath fanned his cheek with each rapid breath she took.
“That was some dessert.”

Kajakti held on to her, then rolled, taking her to her back
with his cock still hard and buried inside her. “You had yours, now it’s time
for me to have mine.”

He pulled almost all the way out of her and then plunged
back in. After that, Kajakti took his mate hard and fast, pushing her to
another climax before he found his own.

Chapter Six

The following day, Kajakti and Jaren had Ketah and Haven
drive them to the Canadian consulate. Ketah drove Haven’s SUV. So far his wolf
brother was the only one who had actually gotten his driver’s license. Ketah
had taken to the modern age faster than the rest of them. Kajakti figured he’d
have to learn how to drive at some point, but for now he was quite happy to
have someone else take him where he needed to go. And now that he’d mated with
Jaren, who already had her license and just needed a car, he’d buy them one and
she could do all the driving.

“So you don’t want us to hang around until you’re done?”
Ketah asked.

“No,” Jaren replied. “I have no idea how long it will take.”

“And I promised Jaren we could go to the Juneau-Douglas City
Museum after we finished up at the consulate,” Kajakti added.

“Okay. Give us a call when you want a ride home. We’ll be at
Haven’s old place. We have a meeting with a real estate agent.”

Kajakti looked at Haven, who sat in the front seat next to
Ketah. “You’ve finally decided you’re going to sell the house?”

She turned her head toward the backseat. “Yes. It’s not as
if Ketah and I are ever going to move in there permanently. I can’t see the
point of holding on to it and paying the mortgage each month.”

Kajakti smiled. “We’d all miss you two if you did.”

Haven’s place was the home she’d shared with her late mother
and had grown up there from a teenager. Selling had been a hard decision she’d
held off on since the house had meant so much to her mother, who’d been a
single parent. Haven’s father had left when she’d been young to go from one
woman to another. He’d just recently died after he’d sold Haven to Tanner.
After his body had been found in a wooded area, his death had been ruled as the
result of a wild animal attack. Andre had been the one who had torn out his
throat in front of Haven.

Once they arrived at the consulate, Ketah pulled over to the
side of the street and let Kajakti and Jaren out. They waved at the other couple
as they drove away. Kajakti took his mate’s hand and walked her toward the
building.

“You really think this will take a long time?” he asked.

She shrugged. “I really don’t know. I’ve never had to go to
a consulate to have a passport replaced before. It is a government service so
the chances are it could take some time. But you never know, they could
surprise us and we’ll be out in a matter of minutes.”

“That would be good. Then we can take a short taxi ride to
the museum.”

“You’re sure you don’t mind doing the tourist thing by going
there with me?”

“Not at all. Actually, I’ve never been to it so it will be
new to both of us.”

“I don’t feel so bad dragging you there then,” Jaren said
with a smile.

It ended up taking a little while for Jaren to get all the
paperwork filled out for a replacement passport, but nowhere near as long as
Kajakti had feared it would. They’d call her once it was ready and she could
pick it up.

With that task completed, it meant Kajakti had to reveal
what he was to Jaren later that day. He didn’t relish the idea of it, was
actually afraid she’d not take the news at all well. Especially the part where
she’d inadvertently caused them to become mated during her first night at the
house. There was no way either one of them could break the bond. Kajakti hoped
like hell she wouldn’t want to get out of it. He was more than happy to have
her as his.

Since there wasn’t a taxi to be seen once they came out of
the consulate, Kajakti suggested they start walking. Jaren had agreed. Hand in
hand, they headed down the sidewalk. Every once in a while she would want to
stop and look at something that had caught her interest.

After one such delay and they had continued on their way,
Jaren jerked on Kajakti’s hand and brought him to a halt. He followed her fixed
gaze to a man who had stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and stared back at
her.

“What’s the matter?” he asked.

“That’s Matt. He didn’t leave Juneau, after all.”

Matt stepped closer until he stood in front of Jaren. His
gaze flicked to Kajakti, then Kajakti’s and Jaren’s linked hands before he
focused on her again. “Jaren, what are you doing?”

She gave Matt a scornful look. “
What
am I doing? More
like what the hell do you think you’re doing?”

Jaren’s ex ignored her questions. “What is going on, Jaren?
And why are you holding hands with this man?”

“Why should you care? You’re the one who walked out on me,
leaving me stranded. You even had me kicked out of the hotel.”

“I care because we’re in a relationship. I’m your boyfriend.
And I only did what I did to teach you a lesson. To show you how much you need
me in your life.”

Jaren gave a sarcastic laugh. “
You’re
my boyfriend? I
think not. The moment you left me in that hotel room with no money, plane
ticket or passport, that’s when I stopped considering you in any such way. And
for your information, your plan backfired. It made me see how much of a selfish
asshole you really are and a control freak. I’m with Kajakti now.”

Matt scowled. “You can’t break up with me. If you do you’ll
have no way to get home. Though I guess I’m willing to overlook you playing the
slut and sleeping with another man.”

Kajakti had had about enough of the mortal. He grabbed the
smaller man by the throat and pushed him into the alley they stood in front of.
He didn’t stop until they were in no danger of being seen from the street.
Jaren followed them in.

He slammed Matt up against the brick wall of one of the
buildings. “I’m going to warn you right now, you’re pissing me off. You don’t
get to talk to Jaren like that. Face facts, she no longer wants to be with you.
She’s with me, and will always be with me. Now this is what you’re going to do,
Matt. You’re going to return what you took from Jaren, so hand it over. Then
she never wants to see you again. Do you understand?”

Matt swallowed, the fear he felt showing clearly on his face
as well of the stench of it wafting off him. “Yes. I’ll give her back her plane
ticket, passport and credit cards, but I don’t have them with me right now.
They’re at my hotel room.”

“Then I guess we’ll go there with you to get them.”

“I’d prefer you didn’t. I don’t need you knowing where I’m
staying. I’ll get them, then we can meet at a certain time and place.”

“Who is to say you’ll show up? You can tell me you’ll do it
but have no intention of following through.”

“I promise I’ll be there. Just let me go. You can have
Jaren. She’s all yours now.”

Kajakti released Matt and took a step back. A bit of a growl
laced the next words he spoke. “You’d better. If I really wanted to, I’m sure
I’d be able to find out which hotel you’re staying at. Then I can guarantee you
wouldn’t like that particular visit.”

The other man nodded. “There’s a coffee shop a block away
from here. Meet me there in forty-five minutes. I’ll have everything that
belongs to Jaren with me.” With that said, Matt brushed past Kajakti and took
off out of the alley and onto the sidewalk. He practically ran the whole way.

Kajakti turned to face Jaren. “Do you think he’ll put in an
appearance?”

She nodded and laughed. “Oh, he’ll be there. He was scared
shitless of you. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Matt grovel like that.”

They both grew silent and looked up at the sound of clapping
that came from that direction. Kajakti growled when he spotted Tanner standing
on a metal fire escape above them. Since the wind was blowing downwind of him,
Kajakti hadn’t been able to smell the dark wolf’s scent. It would have been
something the other werewolf would have done on purpose.

Tanner vaulted over the railing of the fire escape and
landed on his feet a few yards away. The jump would have broken a mortal’s
legs. Kajakti grabbed Jaren’s arm and pulled her behind him. The dark wolf
stepped closer and chuckled.

“I never thought I’d see a wolf brother threaten a mortal
like that,” Tanner said. “Aren’t you sentinels supposed to have been created to
protect them? You all are mortal-lovers, you included. You might try to hide
your mate behind your back, but I know she’s still there. And from her scent,
you haven’t turned her into a werewolf like you yet. That was dumb on your
part. After what happened with Haven, I would have thought your wolf brothers
would have made sure your mates were better protected than that. Mortals are so
much more fragile than us.”

Kajakti took a threatening step toward Tanner. “You will
leave her alone. If you want to hurt someone, you’re welcome to come at me.”

“All right, since you offered.”

Tanner snarled, then shifted to his wolf form as a black,
smoky mass surrounded him. Just as the dark wolf went on the attack, Kajakti
launched himself at Tanner, taking on his dire wolf form on the fly. He vaguely
heard Jaren’s loud whimper of fear.

They came together in a flurry of sharp teeth and claws. It
didn’t take long for Kajakti to realize he was stronger than Tanner. As a dire
wolf his teeth were sharper, his legs sturdier than the dark wolf’s timber wolf
form. And with the threat to his mate, it made Kajakti fiercer, more willing to
go on the attack than the defensive. Tanner had to be eliminated to keep Jaren
out of harm’s way.

Kajakti was about to get his jaws around Tanner’s throat and
take him down to the ground when he felt a sharp jab in his neck, then he
suddenly found himself thrown against a brick wall. He shook his lupine head to
clear it as he surged to his paws, ready to engage the enemy once more.

“That is more than enough, sentinel,” Andre said as he stood
between Kajakti and Tanner. “We’ll yield this time.” He then looked at Tanner.
“You’ve done well, but it’s time we left Kajakti and his mate alone. Now we’ll
see what the future brings.”

Andre then ran off with Tanner, who had shifted to his human
form, to the opposite end of the alley before they disappeared from sight.
Kajakti would have followed them, but at that moment he remembered he couldn’t
leave Jaren alone in case the two dark wolves doubled back and came for her.

Kajakti turned in Jaren’s direction and slowly walked toward
where she stood with her back pressed up against the brick wall. Her eyes were
wide and she breathed at a rapid pace. The scent of fear rolled off her in giant
waves. She looked about ready to bolt.

It’s okay now, Jaren
, he said to her telepathically.
You
have nothing to fear from me. I didn’t want you to find out like this. I’d
hoped to do it in a much less threatening way.

“I-I can’t,” she said, her teeth chattering as she spoke. “I
don’t think I can handle this.”

Kajakti came to stand directly in front of her.
Yes, you
can. You’re only fearful because you don’t understand. I’m a sentinel, one of
the very first werewolves. And you are my mate.

Jaren shook her head. “This can’t be happening. I had to
have fallen and hit my head. Now I’m having hallucinations. I did not see my
new boyfriend turn into a wolf to fight off another man who did the same
thing.”

You aren’t hallucinating. And you didn’t hurt your head.
I’m truly a werewolf.

To prove it, Kajakti brushed his head against the back of
one of Jaren’s hands. She let out a little squeak and jerked away. Knowing the
alley was no place for him to help his mate understand everything she’d seen
and been told, he shifted to his human form. Unlike Tanner, when Kajakti
changed forms his body blurred and shimmered. The black smoke-like mass was a
dark wolf trait, same with the black eyes.

“See, it’s still me,” Kajakti said once the shift was
complete. The side of his neck throbbed a bit. He reached up and touched the
spot. His fingers came away with a small smear of blood. He scowled as he
looked at it.

“Y-you’re hurt,” Jaren stammered.

He wiped the blood off on his jeans. “It’s nothing. I heal
fast. I’m more worried about you.”

“I’m not going to lie to you. I’m scared shitless right
now.”

Kajakti sighed. “I know. I can smell your fear. This isn’t a
good place for me to explain everything properly. Let’s meet up with Matt and
get your things, then we’ll go home and get this all out in the open.” He
reached out to caress Jaren’s cheek but she jerked her head out of the way
before he could make contact with her skin. “I’m just going to say one thing.
You’ve been staying with a houseful of werewolves. We all are, even Carson. Not
one of us has ever done anything to harm you. We’re the good guys. Tanner and
Andre, they are dark wolves, the ones you have to fear.”

“What you said hasn’t made me feel any better, knowing I’ve
been living under the same roof as creatures I thought never actually existed.”

“We’re not creatures. We’re only a different kind of human.
Come on. Let’s go to the coffee shop and wait for Matt. We’ll get that over
with, then hopefully you’ll come to accept what I am.”

Jaren kept enough space between them to prevent him from
trying to take her hand. They walked out of the alley and onto the sidewalk. As
they headed for the coffee shop, Kajakti figured he was going to have his work
cut out for him to have his mate get over her fear of him. Hopefully back at the
house the others could help him with her.

He reached up and touched the spot on the side of his neck.
The throbbing had increased and had moved up into his head, giving him a
headache. He hadn’t had one of those since being turned. It concerned him a little
but he had to focus on Jaren for now.

* * * * *

Tanner looked back at the way he and Andre had come but
didn’t see Kajakti giving chase. “I think the wolf brother isn’t following us.”

Andre smiled. “I didn’t think he would, not with his mortal
mate with him. He wouldn’t think of leaving her unprotected.”
