Grabbing his phone, he searched his waiting messages.
That was where he found it.

Director Blackhawk,

The night is over. I hope you got your money’s worth last night. I cleaned up and hopped the redeye out of town. Have a safe rest of the week at Quantico. You were the best Fed I ever had.

Miss Kitty.

He grinned. As long as he lived, he’d never forget the precious gift she’d given him. While he wished she was there when he woke up, he still had his memory of
last night.

“I won’t ever forget it,” he murmured, climbing out of bed. As he headed to the bathroom to get a shower, he stopped dead in his tracks
at what he saw waiting for him. On the mirror, she’d drawn a big red heart with lipstick. In it, the words said it all.

Then, he turned his cheek to inspect his reflection. On it was the imprint of bright red lips. It looked like not only was he blessed to have one woman in his life, but now two.

Yeah, he was a lucky, lucky man.

It wasn’t easy working with the dead.

The hours were long, the work was tedious, and sometimes it could be
incredibly lonely. Whenever he was forced to work the night shift at FBI West, Doctor Chris Leonard was miserable.

Yet, t
hat wasn’t always the case.

At one time, before he was married, he never minded
the long silent nights filled with bodies, autopsies, and paperwork. Generally, the late shift in the FBI morgue was a quiet time to catch up, getting all his work done. It was rare to have a backlog of bodies to cut into.

Then, he fell in love and found his wife.

Now, being locked away in the morgue at night was sheer hell.

It was hard to not be miserable when at home
, his wife was asleep in their very comfortable bed. All Christopher really wanted was to be right there with her

Instead, he was
trapped at work.

Moving around
the morgue, Chris checked all the inventory, preparing for the next victim who would eventually cross his table. It was all a matter of keeping things organized and in their place. Granted, the Feds had another ME, but Chris was the boss in the bowels of the FBI building.

This was his responsibility.

At one time, his career had been paramount. Nothing mattered more than making sure the dead had their dignity. Now, his personal life was more important. Don’t get him wrong, he loved his job, and the people he called family, but Cyra mattered more.

One of the hardest parts of being on the night shift was, the inability to even text his wife. If he sent one now, he’d scare the hell out of her. Since retiring as a special agent, his wife was busy with her new job- growing their
first child together.

The last thing he wanted to do was wake his pregnant wife just
to say ‘hi’. While he might be new at the husband thing, something about that screamed ‘danger’. So, he was relegated to hanging out alone in the silence of the morgue.

Going from drawer to drawer,
Chris pulled each one open to make sure they were empty. All their victims had been sent out for transport at the beginning of his shift. It had been a slow week, and the staff was taking this as their downtime before chaos exploded. There was no doubt that this lull meant one thing.

There would be hell to pay
at some point.

Chris only prayed that the next out of town case would be left for his backup ME. Doctor Legend could handle it, and
then he could cuddle up with his goddess.

Damn!

There she was again plaguing his thoughts. It wasn’t like he could help it. The geeky doctor didn't always get the sexy blonde.

Well, not in his reality anyway.

What sane woman would pick a man who dug into corpses day after day?

No
t one who wasn’t insane herself, that was for damn sure.

That made him laugh.

His tough wife was far from crazy. She simply loved him for who he was, and he was lucky. Fortunately for him, the minute they met, Cyra was wise enough to chase him down.

He was grateful for her stubbornness.

After finishing all his paperwork, he stuck his head into the tech lab. There were a few staff members still working. Well, more like screwing around.

“Hey!”

They all looked over guiltily. They knew Doctor Leonard ran a strict lab.

Why don’t you all head on out. I’ll cover for you. Just keep your cells on in case we get a call from an agent and need to head out. If we do, I’ll get us ready to roll,” he offered. “If you sleep through a call, your head and my ass are on Elizabeth’s chopping block.”

None of them wanted to go there.

“Really, Doc?” one asked, hopefully.

“Yeah, get out of here.”
Why should they all be trapped in the morgue? Misery liked company, but he wasn’t a sadist. It wasn’t like they were working anyway.

All three techs
on duty jumped up, unwilling to give him a chance to change his mind. “You're the best!” one yelled, as they raced from the room.

He laughed as they scurried away.

Now, he could grab the paper and have a seat at his desk. At least he could entertain his mind with something other than his naked, warm…

Damn it!

His body was already waking up, wanting desperately to find himself buried inside his luscious Cyra. Forcing his mind to focus on something or anything else at that point, he headed into the doctor’s lounge.

Hopefully, the night would go by fast, and he would get home to wake his wife.

A few times…

Cyra used her old badge to sneak into FBI West.

There was no doubt that it was dangerous, illegal, and bordered on insanity, but she was compelled to do it.

Since the night guard knew her, he easily bought her story that she was bringing her husband dinner. It was good to have friends in high places, and the Blackhawks putting her on the access list made that possible.

Now, she could find her husband
. Once he was in sight, she could give him something to get him through the night.

Yeah, and it wasn’t a bag of snacks, either.

Her husband was a sweet man. Christopher was smart, funny, and a gentle soul, but Cyra knew something that few did.

He liked the idea of sex in the workplace.

Many men did, but when you worked with the dead, some might find that creepy. How could you copulate with a corpse in the cooler?

It didn't upset him, and if that got him all hot and
bothered, who was she to judge?

Right now, he was likely sitting in his office, working on some crossword puzzle. It made her giggle that he likely believed that she was at home asleep in bed.

Cyra wanted to celebrate their three month anniversary in a big way, and this was going to be it. What her husband didn't know was that she picked up a little costume to wear on her trip into FBI West. It was hidden beneath a very plain looking trench coat.

Granted, she must look silly in really high red heels as she tried to sneak into his place of employment, but she couldn’t help it.

Cyra loved him so much, that all she wanted was to make him incredibly happy. Christopher Leonard gave her an incredible life, an awesome haunted mausoleum, and all the comforts that wealth could buy.

Now, she wanted to rock his world.

The idea of getting her husband all hot and bothered at work turned her on too.

This was going to be an experiment. Never in her life had she done anything like this, and Cyra suspected the same was true for Christopher
. He was a simple man. All it really took to get him in the mood for some sweaty romp was to get naked. Instead, tonight, she planned on going all out. If you’re going to be pregnant and seduce your husband, why not use a storage facility for the dead?

Yeah, she was
absolutely insane.

The funniest part of all this was that
this little interlude wouldn’t be the first time there would be sex in a morgue. On their last case together, she crossed that line, and now it didn't faze her at all.

It wasn’t like they copulated on top of a dead victim. Her honorable husband would never let that happen. The dead needed dignity in life. Sex there would have to be respectful.

It made her snicker.

Peeking into the tech lab, through the glass windows, she noticed no one was there. That would make this
so much easier.

Her poor husband was about to be
the prey in her little plans. There was a wave of worry as Cyra hoped her attempt wouldn’t be rejected.

Then, she thought about the outfit.

Yeah, there was no way he’d be able to say no. Cyra knew her husband.

Well, it was time. Approaching
the doors, Cyra took a deep breath and headed in.

Tonight,
Chris was in for one hell of a surprise.

God help them both.

As he sat at the desk, flipping through his stock reports in the paper, Chris swore he heard something from the other room. Pausing, he listened carefully to see if it was his imagination.

When he heard nothing, Chris wrote it off as
nothing more than a creaking wall. Going back to the paper, the sound returned.

It was the morgue door opening.

He’d heard it a million times. The only thing was, unless one of his staff had returned, no one had access. Maybe a Blackhawk was on duty and needed his help.

There was a crash.

Like some tools hitting a metal tray.

Now, his heart was pounding.

Okay, if it was one of his bosses, they certainly wouldn’t be touching his equipment. To get any director to touch instruments used to cut into a body would take a huge miracle. To most of the staff upstairs, the morgue was too gross.

All the horror movies he’d watched came crashing back to him as he pictured some reanimated corpse wandering around his room.

The sane part of him knew there were no zombies, but still…

Being alone in the morgue at night was enough to screw with anyone’s mind.

Grabbing his cane, Chris headed toward the door, ready to defend himself against any intruder.

He star
ted praying that whoever it was didn't have a gun. Logically, his brain was telling him no one could sneak into FBI West, but rationale was gone at this point as adrenaline began pumping through his body.
