eread James 3 with the culture in mind. Again note the metaphors James used to describe the tongue. They are clear and simple enough for all of us to comprehend, but consider the effect on people who regularly traveled by ship, who daily might have placed a bit in a horse’s mouth, or who got their water from wells. How would James’s choice of metaphors work with such people?

Now suppose James were writing to people in your own culture. Do you think he would use the same examples? If not, what are three other items he might choose to get our attention? (For example, the tongue might be like a computer virus, because one little quirk can invalidate an entire file [or disk] of valuable information.)
