“Um… no? About the club? Yeah. I mean it’s a great
place for you to go if you wanna bring your daughters. I mean, I know Jezebel,
one of my Sacred Sisters, has a daughter and a son, and Debbie has two kids.
It’ll be safe for them there, and I grew up there. It’s a bit rough, but I
can’t imagine it would be any worse than having a cheating mother who’s a
cokehead. The schools there are pretty good too. Top notch teachers, lots of
high tech shit nowadays, and they just redid the high school and junior high,”
I rattle on in one quick breath.

Deke snickers, shaking his amused head, “I didn’t say
that, but it’s good to know.” His smile widens, brightening up his face. It
looks good on him. Nice to know his sullen mood has perked up a few notches. “I
like the idea of taking Cherry and Ginger to a place where they’d be happy. But
what I was sayin’ is your secret’s safe with me. If you don’t want Big Dick to
know, I won’t tell ‘em. That’s not my burden to bear; it’s yours. I can tell
you this though. If I was your baby’s father, I would wanna know. No matter the
circumstances, the man deserves to know he’s got a kid on the way. I’m not
gonna sit here and act like I’ve got my shit together or judge you for keepin’
this a secret. I get you’ve got some seriously bad fuckin’ blood between you
two, but that ain’t your daughters fault. You’re about to be a mom, and that
means bein’ a fuckin’ mom. Eatin’ fuckin’ nails for breakfast if you have to
just to keep the peace. I’ve done it for ten damn years. Now—” Deke pulls me
into a warm embrace.

I don’t hold back. I wrap my arms around him too,
stuffing my nose into his shoulder and inhaling the heady scent of his leather
cut, and man, all man. Yeah, he kinda smells like Big, but I don’t relax, not
like I did in Big’s arms. It’s not the same.

“Now, you ready to hear what else I got to say, Babe?”

Gee whiz, how could it get much worse? I mean, I let
the damn cat out of the bag after months of working here, and I listen to my
boss have a semi-emotional meltdown. Yup, today is starting out to be real
peachy.

“Sure,” I mutter into his shoulder with a bleak grin.

“There’s a man here to see ya. He’s been waitin’
outside on his bike since I got here. I told him to give ya a few, to um…. talk
to me…ya know… about work shit.”

Work shit, aka, emotional baggage. I get it.

“What’s he look like? Did you catch a name?”

“I know his name. I’m just not tellin’ ya. Go out and
see for yourself.”

I stiffen, my stomach drops, and my heart thuds loudly
in my chest, bellowing deep into my ears. I feel like I might faint. “It’s…it’s
not...” I whisper. Please don’t let it be Big. Fuckin’ Christ almighty, I don’t
know if I could handle that.

Deke chuckles shaking his head, and runs a firm hand
down my back. “It’s not Big, if that’s what you’re askin.’ Now go outside and
see for yourself.”

Grumbling a few unladylike curses, I pull away from
Deke and push up from the couch. With a deep frown, I yank open my office door.

“Here comes the queen of the snarky bitches,” Larry
goads with a menacing laugh, as his body is stuffed under the hood of a vintage
Nova.

“Larry, Larry, Larry,” I shake my head, grinning like
a demented clown. Only this crazy old fool could pull me from a dark place into
the light so quickly. “You are such a fuckin’ charmer. I often wonder why I
didn’t have you knock me up just so I could have the biggest smartass baby in
existence. Now wait,” I stop walking as I reach the door, and turn back to see
him peering up from under the hood with a toothpick smirk. “I know why… if you
could even get it up… I’m sure any of the spunk you’d shoot would be dust.
Prehistoric old jackasses shoot dust, now don’t they, Jimmy?” I pause to smile
sweetly at Jimmy our youngest worker, just fresh out of school. And like I
suspected he blushes fifty shades of pink, and continues working on the
motorcycle next to him.

Opening the door, I say, “I’ll take that as
confirmation,” and walk outside into the blistering February temperatures. I
shiver, rubbing my exposed arms as the cool breeze bites at my skin. I should
have thrown on my hoodie.

A man riding a black vintage
motorcycle with blue flames that lick the sides of the tank, kicks off his bike
and removes his skull painted helmet. I don’t have to see his face to know
whose bike that is.

“Hi, Gunz.” I’m hesitant as I
approach the bike.

Gunz grins with a sucker in his mouth
just before his wide-eyes dart to the growing human that resides in my belly.
He’s one man I won’t be telling the truth to about my daughter. Deke may now
know, but not Gunz. He would drag me home for sure.

“What’s that?” He points to my
stomach.

I shrug, “It’s a beach ball…. what
the hell do ya think?”

“Since when did ya get pregnant?”
He’s furious with me, and the vein in his forehead is throbbing. What a lovely
reunion….not.

“Well…let me see.” I sarcastically
tap my index finger on my chin, pretending to calculate how long I’ve been this
way. “A few months… when I started to get fat. You know, a man sticks his cock
in a pussy, nuts in her, and she blows up like a balloon. Do you want me to go
through all the stages? Didn’t you learn Sex Ed in your one room schoolhouse?”
I raise a sassy brow.

Gunz rolls his eyes and stalks the
last few feet towards me, his shit-kickers scuffing the blacktop with each
step. The hairs on the back of my neck stand at attention, and a shiver of
unease rolls down my spine.

What is he up to?

“I missed you.” He catches me off
guard by wrapping me in a hug. And he’s strangely considerate about not
crushing me to him too hard. You know, baby bump and all.

“What are ya havin’?” he whispers
into my hair, delivering a peck to my temple.

Um… okay… this is strange.

“A girl.” I take a deep breath, “Um…
What are you doin’ here, Gunz?” I try twisting to tug out of his strong
embrace, which proves to be impossible.

“Killin’ two birds with one stone.
Vettin’ Deke for the brotherhood and seein’ you. Seems as though we’ve got
quite a lot to catch up on. I’ll be droppin’ by your place tonight to do just
that. Until then I’ve got some business to attend to with Deke. Axel endorsed
the man, so I’m sure he’s pretty solid. What’d you think?”

Gunz releases me. But keeps me in his
bubble, allowing me to see his face. I’ve desperately missed that handsomely
rugged face. His goatee’s grown out into a full beard, and it suits him.

“I like this.” I reach up and scrub
his beard with a smile, “And I think Deke’s a great candidate. I just got done
talkin’ to him about the compound bein’ a good place for him to raise his
daughters.”

“Maybe you should take his advice,
baby doll, and move back home. Raise your daughter there,”

“I have a boyfriend, Gunz.”

“I know and I’ll be meetin’ him
tonight.”

“No, you won’t,” I blurt firmly. I
don’t want him anywhere near Marshall. The man questions our relationship
enough as it is because I refuse to tell him I love him. I could lie and say it
even though I don’t feel that way. I am honest with that at least, even if I
haven’t disclosed my past.

“Why not?” He tilts his head to the
side, waiting for an answer.

If I didn’t know Gunz any better, I
would say he is hurt by my declaration. But I do know him and he’s not hurt,
he’s pissed. The vein is ugly as ever, and his jaw is locked tight. His
nostrils are flaring, and with the coolness of the air mixed with his breath,
he looks like a fire breathing dragon.

“Gunz, he’s not like you and the
brothers,” I sigh exasperated, crossing my arms over my chest, and taking a
step back to give him some space. He reaches forward, grabs my arm and tugs me
closer.
Fine.

I continue, “Marshall knows nothing
about my old life, and I want to keep it that way. I like our little bubble. I
would like to keep it.”

“Bink,” Gunz warns with a hardened
tone. “I will be meetin’ him.
Tonight
.
If you don’t invite me over willingly, I’ll show up and introduce myself. I
didn’t ride three hours to crash on an empty stomach. Now, I will be at your
place ‘round seven, and I suggest you be the smart woman I know and love, and
listen to me.”

What the fuck is up with all these
bikers thinkin’ they can push me around? Gunz has never been this way with me.
Why now? No fucking clue. I guess I’ll find out soon enough when he invites
himself to Marshall’s apartment tonight. I live there most of the time until he
gets too clingy, and then I stay a few days at Brittany’s where the rest of my
clothes and belongings are. I keep Brittany’s place just so I have a place to
escape should I need it. After tonight, what Marshall ends up saying, and after
Gunz blows my whole fucking world to bits, I am sure I will be frequenting my
apartment once again. Why isn’t life just simple?

I’m not even going to try to argue
with Gunz. I’ve got too much work to do, and I couldn’t win if I tried. Turning
on my heel, I don’t say a word as Gunz follows me back into the shop, where the
blasting heater instantly warms me up.

“This your man?” Larry points a
wrench to Gunz, momentarily lifting his body out of the Nova.

Before I can answer, Gunz speaks up,
“No, old man, I’m just a friend. I get to meet her man tonight. Hear he’s a
real
winner
.”

The sarcasm that drips from Gunz’s
lips makes my blood boil. Marshall
is
a fucking winner. He’s my winner, and my boyfriend, that I happen to like very
much. To refrain from offering a rude retort, I ignore the whole damn thing and
speedily stalk over to my office to shut myself in for the rest of the day.

Fuckin’ men!

Chapter
Two

Night

“Mmmmmm,” Gunz pats his belly, leaning back into the
couch, and stretching his legs out in front of him. “That was the best pizza
I’ve had in forever,
Ev-ah.

Shoot me now! Please take me out of this misery.

Gunz was here at seven on the nose,
and Marshall got home around eight. It’s now well past ten, and Gunz is making
his big biker ass right at home on Marshall’s black leather couch, while I leer
at him in absolute disgust.

My phone buzzes in my lap, momentarily tearing me away
from the annoyance that is seated across from me, smiling ear to fucking ear.
Argh! I seriously need to kick him in the shin.

Candy Cane: Is he still there?

Me: Yes… and he’s making a fool out of himself and
scaring the piss out of poor Marshall.

Gunz has done everything to make my past look downright
dreadful to Marshall. After the initial shock of our unexpected guest, whose
name is
Gunz
- that was a shock
in itself, Marshall put on a friendly smile and played the doting host, just
like I figured he would. He is a nice guy, after all. But Gunz has decided to
act like a fucking uncivilized barbarian by eating with his fingers, drinking
insurmountable amounts of beer that he brought with him, and talking about shit
that Marshall could never even wrap his head around. I know Gunz is doing it to
prove a point and be a dick. Now I’m gonna have a huge mess to clean up after
he finally decides to leave.

Candy Cane: What’s he doing now?

I can feel her sympathy pouring through the phone. She
knows this is bad. None of the women have actually met Marshall, but they are
fully aware that I live with and care for the man. Gunz doesn’t seem to give a
shit about any of it.

Glancing up from my phone before I reply, I catch Gunz
tugging his guns from his cut and inspecting them in his lap. Marshall hasn’t
spoken a word in probably fifteen minutes; he’s too preoccupied with outright
staring at Gunz and anxiously sipping on his glass of red wine.

“So, Marshall.
Ev-ah
ever tell ya ‘bout the time I took her to Blimp’s shootin’ range for
a local competition against other kids her age, and she won by a fuckin’
landslide?” Gunz glances up from his guns to look at Marshall. His snicker and
smug chest pump tells me he knows I didn’t tell Marshall shit. Just like I
didn’t tell Marshall about Pretzel, my dog that is now Big’s. Or the whole
fucking story about me learning to ride a Hog way before I ever drove an actual
car. Of course, pain in my ass over here had to enlighten him on all of those
little things. And Marshall just keeps looking at me like a damn deer in headlights,
thanks to all of this newfound knowledge that Gunz feels the need to impart.
The fucker!

“Ummm…” Marshall glances to me, frowning behind his
wine glass, and takes a sip. “No, Gun, she didn’t, sorry. Like I said before,
Eva hasn’t really enlightened me on much of her past.”

Son of a bitch! I swear to God, if Marshall wasn’t
here being as sweet and respectful as he is, I would be laying my hands on Gunz
to smack that despicable smirk right off his stupid ass face.

“It’s
Gun-zzzz
,
right,
Ev-ah
?” he emphasizes
assholishly, definitely feeling the effects of his beer.

“Are you about ready to leave?” I blurt at Gunz, and
Marshall snaps to face me, eyes wide. Then he glances back to Gunz, eyes
landing on the two 9’s in his lap, and back to me again.

Oh Jesus H-Christ, he is not going to shoot us. If
that’s not fear pouring from Marshall by the boatload, I don’t know what the
hell else to call it. This man has got to buck the fuck up. A biker sits in
your living room getting overly comfortable, leather covering every orifice of
his body from his pants, to his cut, to his boots and jacket. What do you do?
You surely don’t freak the hell out. You throw that over-the-top attitude right
back in his face. That’s how my world worked. Hell, that’s how it works now,
when Marshall isn’t present. I figured I had this part of my past under lock
and key. Apparently Gunz has other ideas.
