The next morning, Chase and Raegan stood on the back porch waving goodbye to Star and Jamie. "I still can't believe that they were able to keep their love for each other from us," Raegan said from within Chases's arms. "I knew there was a growing attraction between them, but I never dreamed they had fallen in love."

"I think it might have been my fault nothin' was ever said to us. After the first week I brought Star home with me, I warned Jamie off her. He was probably afraid to tell us."

"I wonder if they'll find her grandfather still alive?"

"I'm afraid not." Chase sighed. "But at least Star will have Jamie to console her."

Raegan tilted her head to look up at Chase. "Do you realize that for the first time we're going to

have our home to ourselves?"

Chase nuzzled her throat and murmured thickly, "We can make love anytime, anywhere we want to. How about goin' back to bed?"

Raegan pulled his head down so that she could reach his lips. "You just spoke my mind."

Raegan's Light Bread

1 cake yeast

IV2
tsp. sugar

IV2 pint warm water

Two potatoes the size

of Chase's fist 2 tsp. salt Flour

While yeast is dissolving in warm water, cook the potatoes and mash them. Then add yeast water along with salt and sugar. Mix well and place in a crock and leave it on a warm hearth to rise. When the mixture has risen almost to top of crock, begin to add flour until you have a firm dough. Let it rise until double in size, then knead it real good before shaping it into loaves. Let it rise again, then bake in moderate oven until broom straw stuck in loaves comes out free of dough.

Chase loved to eat a slice of warm Light Bread spread with butter.
