I heard a gasp escape her mouth as I walked away. I smirked at her reaction. I walked out of her apartment and across the courtyard to another building. She had no idea that I had taken up residence in a building across from her bedroom window. I made my way up and sat waiting and watching. I pulled the shades down. However, I could still see through the many holes that I had made in the shade, a Navy seal trick for spying. I had also rigged the various contraptions around her apartment that would send off a signal when there was movement outside. This would allow me to get some sleep, as I would know when she left or if anyone came to visit or if someone came looking for her. I grabbed my binoculars and I watched as she paced the room on her phone. She looked frustrated. I can only imagine that she was calling her father. As I watched her I felt an infatuation building inside of me. I liked the way she moved so gracefully even when she was angry. I liked the way her long dark hair flowed down her back. Her small petite slender frame only made her look more fragile and vulnerable, which made me want to protect her even more. Yet her stubborn resistance to me showed me that there was a fire deep inside of her. She obviously thought of herself as a woman not to be messed with. I forced myself away from the window. I needed to stop. I was no longer watching her to protect her. I was watching her because I was attracted to her. This needed to stop. It couldn’t have my lust be a distraction for my assignment. I had to prove that I could master this assignment. There was more at stake than just protecting Ava. My entire future was at stake.

AVA

I paced the room calling everyone that I knew and that my father knew. I yelled at people. I was frustrated. However, I could not get a hold of my father. How dare he send a man to protect me, and not send a word of warning! He always intruded on my life just when things were going well. I was all set here in Hawaii. I was doing well at school. My professor had just told me I was born leader and best in the class. Now out of nowhere suddenly my past is haunting me again. All because my father decided to intrude on my life. How did he even find me here in Hawaii? I thought I had lost him a long time ago and was good at keeping him off my trail. I guess I was wrong. I made a few more phone calls and finally gave into exhaustion.

I poured myself a glass of wine and quickly drank it down. Then I found myself consuming the entire bottle. I was just so angry and needed some relief. Before I knew it I was feeling very tipsy. My thoughts wondered to Zak Flynn. A flash of his image crossed my mind with his perfect body dangerous good looks and wild hair. I had to admit to myself that it was a turn on to have such a man protecting me. I wondered where he was now. I wondered what he was doing. Before I knew it I felt very flushed. I felt turned on. I went into my bathroom and threw open the window to let in some cool tropical air. The sea breeze was rich with the scent of lush hibiscus flowers. The salty air was intoxicating. But it wasn't enough to make me stop thinking about Zak. I turned on the shower. A cold shower in the sea breeze of the night would do me some good. I pulled off my clothes as I stood in the window to allow the sea breeze to caress my body. I stepped into the glass shower and tried to wash the image of Zak off of me. I failed. So I did what I had to do to relieve myself. I started touching myself in the shower. It was the only thing I could do to get some relief. I caressed my body, pretending it was Zak touching me. Before I knew it I was yelling in ecstasy as I released my pent up sexual tension about this man.

Hours later I was asleep in bed. I was in a deep heavy sleep due to the amount of wine I had consumed. When suddenly I felt a hand on my arm shaking me awake.

"Ava. Ava wake up," a whispering male voice said.

In panic I sat straight up in bed forgetting that I was naked. The sheet dropped to my waist and my bare breasts bounced in the dim light. I looked straight into the face of Zak Flynn. His gaze rolled over my breasts and he smirked for a split second and then quickly went back into soldier mode as he whispered, "There's no time. They are here we have to go now."

I grabbed the sheet quickly and pulled it over me up to my chin and whispered, "What? What are you doing here? How did you get in here? Leave now."

But he did not have time to answer. There was the sound of glass shattering coming from downstairs. I looked at him with panic on my face. He quickly grabbed clothes from my floor and threw them out the window. Then he scooped me up from my bed and carried me to the window.

"What the hell do you think you're doing? I am naked!" I said in a hushed yelling whisper.

"Just do what I say” he said as he put me down on my feet next to the window. He climbed out of the window and onto a rope and then whispered to me, "Climb onto my back now."

I stood frozen and panicked. Was this man serious? I was completely nude and he wanted to give me a piggyback ride as he shimmied down a rope. My shock was disrupted as I heard commotion downstairs. The intruders were inside. I did as Zak instructed and climbed onto his back wrapping my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck. I heard him gasp just a little, but I didn't know if it was because of my weight or because I was naked. He shimmied down the rope with such silent quickness it was almost scary. As I looked up in my windows I could see flashlight beams roaming in the room. Zak was right! Someone was looking for me. He had saved me from my drunken stupor of sleep in which I would have never awakened from by just the sheer noise of the intruders. Here he was saving my life after I had treated him like shit. As soon as he reached the ground he whispered, "Grab your clothes. Here this will have to do for now." He wrapped a towel around me that he had thrown to the ground with a T-shirt and jeans. I held the towel close around me as I clutched my clothes in a bundle. He looked at me and then looked up at the building. "Now we go fast. And above all else, quietly."

I nodded my head and followed his sprint like movements as he scaled his body against the walls using the shadows of the buildings to hide. I followed him quietly always looking over my shoulder feeling very scared. Soon we were out of my apartment complex and onto the sands of the beach. He ran onto a small wooded dock where several small motorboats were parked. He jumped into one and immediately began to untie and ready the boat for motoring out to sea. I jumped in and quickly sat down taking this opportunity to put on my clothes.

In seconds we were motoring out into the open ocean. I wrapped the towel around my shoulders to keep warm in the chill of the ocean air. I looked over at Zak. He was focused. He was determined. It was almost as if he was a completely different person right then. I said nothing and allowed him to do his work. I knew the look of a determined soldier when I saw one. If he wasn't lying about his Navy seal experience, then he knew exactly what he was doing. I had to trust that. When we kept going straight out into the ocean. I started to become paranoid and anxious. Clearly we were not hugging the coastline as I thought we would be. I thought the motorboat was only a means of escape. I assumed we would be docking somewhere further along the coastline. However, that's not what was happening.

"Where are we going?" But there was no answer. I moved in my seat and stood up next to Zak as he stood behind the wheel of the boat.

"Zak, I said where are we going?"

"Somewhere safe," he said, quick and short.

"I think I'm allowed to know where you're taking me."

"It's a small island away from the coastline."

"I know exactly the island you're talking about. It is isolated. No one lives there. It is a nature sanctuary."

He looked at me impressed. Then he said, "Yeah, that's exactly it."

"Why are we going there?"

"Because there are no people there."

"And why do we want that?"

"Because if there are no people there then no one can identify you, and tell the people that are looking for you. You should trust no one. So we should go where there is no one."

"For how long?"

"I don't know. Perhaps just a few hours. Or a few days."

"Days?! I cannot be gone for days. I am in college. I am doing well. I have a big assignment coming up."

"Those assignments will mean nothing if you are dead. Now be quiet and let me concentrate," he said as he looked at the navigation system on the boat.

I was angry. I sat down and crossed my arms like a child. There was no way that I would allow him to keep me that long. But I would deal with this once we landed on the island. The plan was already forming in my head. I had too much going on in Hawaii. I have worked my ass off to get where I was in college. There was no way that I was going to allow my past to keep that from me. I had run from it for so long. I couldn't keep running anymore.

15 minutes later the boat slid onto the wet sand under the small waves. Zak turned off the boat and held his hand out to me, "come on. Now be careful."

He escorted me up onto the sand. Then he turn back towards the boat. He grabbed onto the front bars and took a few steps backwards pulling the boat further up onto the sand. I watched in amazement at his strength. Even though the boat was in the water which made it easier to slide. It was still an impressive move that required strength. Once the boat was further up on the San he turned back to me and looked at me up-and-down.

"I guess I should build us a fire to keep you warm. Sorry you had to leave without any… clothes."

"You can't build a fire. It is a protected island. Fires are not allowed. The Coast Guard would be here in five minutes or less."

Zak turned and looked at me impressed once more. I guess he thought I knew nothing about my environment. But he was wrong. I guess he was used to helping people that were less intelligent than me.

"Then I guess we will have to find another way to keep you warm,” he said then he arched his eyebrows at me. I immediately felt my face turn red. I turned to hide my face blushing from him.

"If only I had been sleeping in my nightgown I would at least have more clothes to layer on. I usually don't sleep in the nude, but I had just got out of the shower and fell asleep."

"I know. I saw."

I gasped out loud. "What do you mean you saw?!"

"Nothing. I'm going to look around and maybe find a makeshift shelter for us."

He walked away into the tree line of the island. Deeper into the tropical jungle and nature preserve leaving me alone on the sand. I stood there in shock. Had he been watching me? Had he seen me take a shower? Had he watched me touch myself? I had left the window open while I was showering, I guess he was watching from afar. I should've known. Someone that is sent to protect you will watch you at all times. I wonder how long he had been watching me before he even introduced himself. A part of me was angry that he had watched me. But secretly deep down inside it excited me. I wonder what he was thinking when he saw me. Did it turn him on? Or was it just part of the job for him. The way he looked at me when I sat up in bed and my bare breasts bounced in the nightlight made me think that he saw me as more than just an assignment. However I could be wrong. He was a guy after all. I wonder if he knew that what I did in the shower was because of him. I had in fact met him earlier in the day so I think he was smart enough to know that I was relieving myself because of my interaction with him. I sat down in the sand facing the ocean. I could faintly see the lights of the main island. Why did this have to happen now? Just when I was doing really well in college. I could hear rustling behind me. I knew it was Zak. I didn't bother to turn around. I sat in the sand sulking away.

"Come on this should hold us over for the night," Zak said behind me. I stood up from the sand and followed him into the tree line. I was impressed by what I saw. There was an A-frame shelter built from palm fronds. I looked at him and he smiled an arrogant smile, he was clearly impressed with himself. He was clearly having his ego stroked by the look on my face that said I was impressed. I rolled my eyes and crawled into the shelter. As soon as I was inside, I was enveloped in warmth. It was a very impressive shelter. Zak positioned himself just inside the shelter sitting up.

"Aren't you going to try to sleep?"

"Not until I know we have not been followed. You go ahead and rest. I will watch over you."

His words brought a chill over my body. I had never had a man say those words to me. I had never been involved in a real relationship before. I couldn't get that close to anyone because of my past. So to hear those words from a sexy male voice full of caring brought a shock to me. I laid down on the soft mat of palms and quickly fell asleep.
