  My Christmas Stalker

T
he snow was starting to fall again as David Ballantine stepped out of his limousine in front of his family’s place of business, Bella Noche`, an elite clothing store in the middle of New York City. The store catered to those whose life style appreciated top quality with bank accounts to match. His family had owned the store for two generations and now David was a major stockholder and CEO of the family business.

Four years ago, his father had passed on and David, as the only son of Marcus and Daphne Ballantine, had inherited the business. His mother was a joint stockholder and still had a say in the profitable store, even though she left most of the decisions to her young, capable, handsome son.

Daphne Ballantine kept herself busy with local charities and flitted between daily committee meetings of one sort or other—that is, when she wasn’t trying to micro manage her only son’s life. David puffed out his cheeks as memory of last night flooded his mind. One of those moments when his mother had set him up with a blind date and managed to embarrass him in front of a room full of people.

David opened the door for a tall blonde with long, sexy legs as they reached the front door of Bella Noche` at the same time. Her smile was slow and her eyes held a not-so subtle gleam. Her eyes lit up letting him know she was aware of who he was. He just plastered on a stiff smile and hurried away before she could begin making her move. He was getting sick to death of the ‘Rich and Famous’ phony women.

David’s hand griped the handle of a door that had a plaque that read “Security” at the top. He paused to take a deep breath. He hoped his buddy Jeff was already at work. He needed to vent!

“Hey, dude!” Jeff Carlisle greeted him as he sat down in front of the security cameras in the comfortable chair David had supplied for him. He popped the top of a soda can. “Wanna root beer? I got plenty to share, courtesy of the rad boss I have.” He took a long swig, letting out a sound reflecting his pleasure in the beverage.

“No thanks.” David slumped into the hard-back chair leaning against the wall. “I don’t drink those things and you know it!” he huffed.

“Ooo! Poor rich boy woke up on the wrong side of his $5000 plush bed this morning?” Jeff laughed and took another long drink before setting it down on the desk.

“Hey! No sodas near the control panel! That was the deal for the soda machine, remember?” David scowled at his friend. Jeff quickly picked up the can, drained it, and threw it away.

“Sorry, man.” He turned in his swivel chair to look at his friend.

David and Jeff were two of the most unlikely people to be friends. They were from different circles. David was from the ranks of the so called ‘Rich and Famous’ that he had been so irritated at earlier, and Jeff was from a middle class family from South Carolina.

They had met when Jeff had applied for the job of security guard. David had interviewed him and something had just connected between them. David had begun stopping off to hang out in the security room ever since. There was just something about Jeff that drew David to the man.

Through the first year, they had started going to the same hot dog vendor and that lead to ball games, and at some point, Jeff had introduced him to the young single adult dances for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

All their time together resulted in serious conversations of the purpose of life, and a year later David had accepted the challenge to take the missionary lessons. Six months later, David was baptized. That was almost a year ago.

“Hey, I’m sorry for biting your head off. I’m just tired and frustrated with my mother.” David ran a hand over his tired eyes. “She set me up again last night. I spent the whole night fighting off an octopus. Dude, this girl’s hands had hands! She had my shirt tail out or buttons undone with a flick of a wrist. Not to mention the lack of material in what was supposed to be her dress. I didn’t know where to look!” Jeff grinned at his friends description.

“Yeah, your life is so tough.” he cackled. David glared at him

“Right! Like you wouldn’t have been uncomfortable! You were running from that woman in the tight leggings at the last YSA activity and don’t deny it!”

“Hey! She told me she wasn’t wearing any underclothes!” Jeff flushed at his own words.

“Exactly.” David expelled a long breath. “My mother just doesn’t understand my new set of rules. She actually slip me a condom as her guests were ringing our doorbell last night. My own mother!”

“That’s gotta be rough. Have you tried to explain the church’s stand on Chasity?” Jeff crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair.

“Yeah, I’ve tried. She just makes fun of it. Told me I needed to test drive the product before I purchased it.” He shook his head. “I can’t believe I used to think the same way. I am ashamed to admit I used to see sexual relations in the same carnal way as my mother. She doesn’t understand the concept of being sexually chaste.”

“Well, maybe one day your mom will get it.” He offered support the best he could. David stood up to look at the monitors, ready to change the subject.

“So what’s happening on the floor today?” he asked as he checked out the scenes before him. Eight monitors were on the wall.

The camera system had been updated six years ago and constantly upgraded ever since. It had helped crack down on shoplifting. It always amazed him that people who could afford to shop at Bella Noche` would stoop to stealing. Every one of the thieves they had caught didn’t need to steal. They were just bored with life as they knew it.

“Not a whole lot yet. Two old women in the shoe department and there was a sexy blonde that came in with you—.”

“She wasn’t with me!” David denied. Jeff just smiled at him.

“Two delivery girls brought the morning pastries for the staff upstairs and that is about it for this morning. No one is out of bed yet in your circle of fellow citizens.”

Their attention moved from the monitors and they started talking about sports.

W
hitley Spencer and Nora Wolf stepped off the elevator together. They had delivered the tray of pastries and muffins to the top floor of Bella Noche`. The two women worked for ‘Patty’s Pastries’ and often volunteered for the delivery job to the high priced fashion store. They liked to walk through the gorgeous clothing sections and daydream.

“Whit, let’s check out the evening gowns this time!” Nora sighed. “I just love to feel the fabulous fabric slide over my skin!” Nora ran a hand down her body with one hand as she pumped her short black hair with the other. “Makes me feel…sexy!” Her come-hither look made Whitley laugh.

“You are so silly, Nora!” Whitley tossed her long honey blonde hair over her shoulder as she watched the vivacious young woman put her hand on her hip and exaggerated the sway in her hips.

“Well, a girl can dream, can’t she?” Nora winked over her shoulder and then straightened up as she laughed with her friend. “Come on! We have forty-five minutes before we are expected back at work.” She grabbed Whitley’s hand and they hurried to the eveningwear.

David was reenacting a football pass as he and Jeff were talking when all of a sudden Jeff whistled and scooted his chair closer to the monitors.

“Hello, sexy lady!” Jeff zoomed in on the two young woman standing in front of the long mirrors in the women’s saloon. The room was set up for a woman to model in the dress of her choice and see herself in the surrounding mirrors. Eggshell colored velvet seats surrounded the short runway, adding to the elegant room that was used for the private fashion shows.

“What a beauty!” David pulled his chair up next to Jeff. “Close in.”

“You’re the boss!” Jeff turned a few nobs and the picture zoomed in closer. “That is one hot chick!” He whistled softly.

“Gorgeous!” David stared mesmerized. “Look at her hair. Her coloring is so unique.”

“Yeah, her short, black hair shows off her delicate neck.” Jeff stared

“Short hair? No, man the one with the long silky mane!” David protested. “Did you just say delicate neck?” He turned to smirk at his friend.

“Yeah, well, you said silky mane!” Their attention went back to the two girls.

The shorter girl with the long, light honey colored hair and the big brown eyes was wearing a dress of midnight blue silk. It made her skin glow with a creamy light caramel color. The dress had small puffed sleeves, the slit up the leg allowed her slender, sexy leg to pop through as she took a model stance as she paused at the end of the short runway. The material shimmered from the overhead lights. She turned with the grace of a model as she walked back down the runway.

The young woman with the black, bobbed hair walked onto the short stage next in a shorter, red-sequined, cocktail dress. She hopped down off the runway and paused to apply red lipstick from a small handbag laying on a chair. She kissed at herself in the mirror and winked at her reflection. The two men chuckled.

“She is a cutie, alright!” Jeff said with a wide grin.

“Turn on the sound.” David nudged Jeff. He glanced at his boss.

“You sure? It might spoil the illusion that we just found our two perfect women.”

“Do it,” David said curtly. Jeff twisted more knobs and the girl’s voices filled the room.

     “
O
h, you are just adorable in that red, Nora!” the blonde said with a giggle.

“Well, you are just stunning in that blue, Whitley.” Nora returned the compliment.

“Whitley,” David murmured, putting a name to the face.

“That dress is perfect for you. You should buy it for the Christmas Ball! You would knock the socks off every guy in the place even if you are on the arm of Shawn Paterson!” Nora clapped her hands. “Buy it!”

“Shawn Paterson? Ya know any Shawn Paterson?” David asked. The name rang a familiar bell. Jeff’s eyes squinted in thought, then he snapped his fingers.

“Yeah! He’s that podiatrist just opened up on 12
th
avenue. He was at the YSA basketball tournament you and I played in last month.” Jeff reminded David.

“Oh, yeah. My mom just had an appointment with the guy. Came back gushing about how adorable he was and ‘such gentle hands’.” David rolled his eyes. His chest felt a twinge at the thought of the girl possibly belonging to someone else already.

     “Is he married?” David asked.

“Nah, or he wouldn’t be at the young single adult activities.”

“Oh, yeah, right!” Relief flooded through David. Their attention went back to the girls.

Whitley shook her head. “I don’t even have to see the tag to know I could never afford this dress.” Nora rushed to her and found the tag under her arm. She gasped and covered her mouth, then started giggling.
