I strained my brain to think, although I
wasn't sure why. Listening to the voice in my head and some fantasy
story I dreamed about. If I had to explain this to anyone … well,
it wouldn't happen because I couldn't talk about it. And I couldn't
talk about it because …

"Talk about what?" I said out loud and
looked around my room. I scrunched up my forehead and struggled to
think of what happened. However, anything beyond that uncomfortable
moment when I listened to Tina's usual cruel words and then running
out of the cafeteria was a total blank white page.

I got up to cross my room and look out the
window. I smiled sadly at the falling flakes covering the ground,
leaving November no longer in limbo. And neither was I. Somehow, I
found a familiar piece of me today, too. Something about being
patient and using reason rather than emotion to guide my way
tickled my memory. I shivered and brushed my arms to take away the
chill. "Watch out for the path of evil and misery," I whispered. I
wasn't sure why, but I felt certain there was that danger ahead of
me, a part of my future. And it scared me.
