"Tomorrow morning, nothing. I’ll take you to
ATM on the corner and you give me my money or you are out of here
now."

"I…I lost my plastic."

"That’s it. You’re out of here. And say,
what are you doing back here so early? Don’t you work nine to
five?"

"Half day today."

"Don’t bullshit me, O’Rourke. Did you get
canned again? Is that why your face is all..." he made a motion
with his hand to indicate the mess of makeup and tears.

MJ began to well up. She didn’t hold back
this time. Maybe the waterworks would help. If Dunne had a softer
side, it might buy her time.

Couldn't hurt to try.

Chapter Eleven

Joshua followed MJ to the entrance of her building
and then hung behind. He contacted his guy.

"Where’s the cycle courier kid now?"

"He’s on his way to you. MJ’s wallet was
stolen and I think he’s going to her place to return it to
her."

"Shit." Joshua hissed. "What is with this
stupid kid?"

"Just seems like a good guy, boss."

"That was a rhetorical question, you
idiot."

"Of course, Mr. Drummond. I’m sorry. Do you
want me to intercept him?"

Joshua thought for a moment.

"What happened to his bike?"

"He left it back at her office, sir."

"Go back and get it. Bring it here."

"You want me to steal it, sir?"

"Do whatever you have to do. I’m paying you
enough for aren’t I?"

"Yes sir."

Within minutes, Joshua watched Adam arrive
and saw the bloody mark on his forehead where the phone had made
contact.

That crazy stupid
kid.
He thought. He was dying to follow
him into the building but didn’t dare. There would be no earthly
way to explain his presence there. He would look ridiculous and
lose any possible chance of claiming this girl for his
own.

Chapter Twelve

In the stairwell Adam’s heart was racing as he
climbed to her sixth-floor apartment, and it wasn’t because of the
exertion because he was super-fit. His palms were sweating and he
had butterflies in his stomach. He half thought about turning
around again, but that would be ridiculous. He had her wallet and
phone and still had to give them to her.

Come on buddy, don’t lose
it now
. He told himself.
This is the chance you’ve been waiting for. Dream
girl comes along and not only do you get to meet her but you get to
save her ass, too. What can possibly go wrong?

Nothing. This was it. He would take his
damsel in distress and make the earth move for her with
spine-tingling, toe-curling, life-altering sex beyond anything she
could imagine. They would feel the tremors in California, if his
instincts were anything to go by. This girl was fiery hot and there
had been some serious voltage between them, he was sure of it. That
blush was out of the ordinary.

His pants began to stretch with the
beginnings of a fresh erection and he paused on the stairs to
regain control of his wayward cock.

A few deep breaths and he was ready to go
again.

He got to the top of the stairs on MJ’s
floor and rounded the corner. A filthy middle-aged man in a tank
top and wrinkled pants was crowding a doorway and he could hear
feminine sniffles and tears.

"No way, O’Rourke." Dunne was saying. "No
squirts. I've had enough already. This is it. You owe me for three
weeks and now you’re unemployed again. I want you out of here
tonight."

Adam bunched up like an animal ready to
attack, his body rippling with toned, super-fit muscle. What the
hell was going on here? He heard MJ's voice, so sexy and sweet even
through heart-breaking tears.

"Please Mr. Dunne, we've got nowhere to go.
Can't you please help us out?"

Dunne looked her up and down.

How can he say no to
her?
Adam thought.
How could any man in his right mind refuse her?

"Maybe." Dunne said. "How far you willing to
go O’Rourke? I mean, how desperate are you exactly?" His voice had
changed from gravel hard to distinctly sleazy.

Does he mean...?

"God no!" he heard MJ shout. "I mean... if
you could just--"

"You have 'till tomorrow morning. 8:00 a.m.
And this is me being nice. I want your lazy, stupid, canned ass out
of here by then. The cleaners will be here so--"

"Cleaners my ass!" Now MJ's tone changed. He
could hear that fire again and it rippled straight through his taut
body and down into his twitching cock. "This fleapit hasn't been
cleaned since the Great Depression, you goddamn parasite!"

She slammed the door and put the chains
on.

Adam couldn't help but laugh to himself.
God, she had spirit. He couldn't wait to get that fiery angel into
the sack.

"I'm doing you a favor O’Rourke and don't
you forget it. I could put you on the streets tonight if I wanted
to."

"Screw you." Was the muffled response
through the doorway.

The man shuffled down the hall and passed
into the stairwell without a glance in Adam's direction. He
considered hanging him out of the window by his ankles, but he
didn't want to make more trouble for MJ.

Besides, he was about to change her day from
pure hell into absolute relief, after which he would then sweep her
into bed and they would do the wild thing until her legs gave
out.

He stepped into the hallway.

On the other side of the doorway, MJ had
slumped to the floor again. Blackjack came over and licked the
tears from her face.

"What are we gonna do, baby?" She asked him.
The cat gave her a cold look of comprehension and then hopped out
the kitchen window.

"Number one first, huh?"

Adam put his finger to the buzzer and
pressed slowly down. He paused briefly for an answer and then
pressed again.

"Go away." He heard from inside. He looked
back down the hallway, then at the wallet and phone.

Come on man, what the hell
is the matter with you? She's the one, don't be such a goddamn
pussy.

He pressed the buzzer again; harder this
time.

"Whoever you are, get the hell out of here.
There's nobody home."

Adam took a deep breath. How to turn this
into romance?

She had just been asked to exchange her body
for a week's rent by her sleazy landlord. Not exactly a Kodak
moment.

"I'm not going to blow you Mr. Dunne, so
either you take off or I call the police. You hear me?" MJ waited
to hear the sound of feet shuffling away.

There was nothing.

What the hell is wrong
with him?
She thought.
Is this day from hell never going to end?

The corner of something small slid under the
door right next to her, then a sudden shove sent the thing
skittering across the kitchen floor and out into clear view.

She stared down at it.

What in the hell?

It was her driver's license. She picked it
up and turned it over. It was definitely hers.

Adam stared at the ground where the license
had disappeared on his side of the door and waited for something to
happen.

Come on MJ, take a chance. What are you
waiting for? This was meant to be...

MJ picked up the license and stared at
it.

The little old lady. She'd had a change of
heart. Or maybe she had never stolen it. Maybe it had just fallen
out of her bag, the old lady had picked it up and was now returning
it.

A homeless woman who was desperate for
money.

She hadn't been wrong about her after all.
The human race wasn't that bad. A wave of gratitude flooded through
her. She jumped to her feet, frantically undid the chains and
yanked the door open.

"Oh thank you so much, how can I
ever..."

The words died in her throat.

That was no little old lady standing in
front of her. It was a guy. A hot guy. As hot as all hell. And one
she recognized, especially that gorgeous, sexy, super-relaxed 'I'm
as cool as a penguin in December' smile.

Adam was stunned all over again.

Jesus Christ she was so beautiful, and the
way she was looking at him, as though he had saved her life… his
rebellious cock twitched hard in his pants. This was it, he was
going to bone his one true love tonight!

"What are you doing here?" MJ said, her
relief changing to suspicion. "Where did you get this driver’s
license?"

"I'm not a stalker." He said, and
immediately regretted it.

You can stalk me
anytime.
MJ thought.

"I don't understand." She said. "How did you
get this?" She wanted to throw her arms around his tanned, muscular
neck and kiss him. Maybe after that she would think about thanking
him for the driver's license. At least now she would be able to
rent a car to get out of this cold unfriendly town. If she could
find the money to pay for one.

"It was inside this." He held up her
wallet.

"Oh my God!" She teared up in relief. Her
cards, her cash -- what little of it there was -- but at least she
could go grocery shopping and feed her cat. "Oh my God." She
repeated and put her hand to her mouth, her eyes glistening with
moisture.

Kill me
now.
 He thought.
It this girl gets any cuter I'm going to need new underpants
before I get home.

"And it was next to this." He held up her
phone. The screen was cracked but it still looked usable. Her
address book, all her phone numbers and contacts, her
photos.

"Sorry about the crack." He said with a
goofy, totally sexy smile. "Not sure if it happened when it hit the
ground or my big stupid head." He rolled his eyes upwards and her
stunning green eyes followed his big baby blues.

It was then she noticed the gash on his
beautiful rugged forehead.

It only made him more attractive.

Had he taken an injury to get her things
back?

"Oh my God!" She gasped, as she put her
small hand to the wound. "What happened to you?"

"That little old lady who was cozying up to
you on the train is a pretty good shot."

"Oh my God. Please, come inside, come
inside." She took him by the hand and a thrill of pleasure ran
through her. His hand was big, strong, and masculine. It had been
forever since she felt the strength, warmth and protection of a
male hand around her own small, pale, delicate fingers.

I'm going to fuck you tonight.

She heard the words go through her head and
pulled herself up in shock.

No way MJ, no way. Get a hold of
yourself.

Her hand was small,
delicate, feminine and brought out all those crazy protective
feelings he had for a woman right before he felt the urgent need to
bone them.
I'm going to take you
tonight little girl.
He heard the words go
through his head and smiled.
Oh yeah. You
can run sweet baby, but you cannot hide.

MJ’s hand went limp in his and she stopped
moving.

Adam held his
breath.
Shit. Is my filthy mind that
obvious?

"Is something wrong?" He asked
her. They had stopped in the doorway as she faltered, unsure
of her own feelings.

I can't bring him in
here.
She thought. She hardly trusted
herself anymore. This was nothing like her. Nothing like the MJ her
friends had known; always in control and never, ever, ever losing
her head to a guy -- especially not the low income kind of guy.
They were lucky if they got past 'hello' with her sharp
tongue.

She looked the tall man up and down in one
swift glance. Her huge, upturned eyes fixed on his and then
disappeared under a slow bat of the eyelids and Adam’s heart
skipped a beat.

Is this a goddamn yes or a
no?
He thought.

He smiled. "We can stay here if you want."
He said. "I guess we don’t actually have to go into your apartment
if you don’t want to. I totally understand."

His voice was so deep, sexy, sensual, and
all male. He was all man. He was dressed like a skanky teenager and
had some pretty wild tattoos, which MJ was usually not into. But
she had to admit that they looked good on him. She had to admit
that he was all man.

Am I this desperate? Is MJ
O’Rourke, the girl most likely to succeed, so damn lonely?
She thought.

"MJ?" He said. Her odd hot and cold behavior
was baffling to him but extremely arousing. The look of
perplexity on his face made her want to surrender to him even
more.

Adam felt the stretch of his growing cock
and prayed his erection wouldn't be obvious in his baggy
shorts.

"You're the courier." She said. "The courier
who brought that box to me today."

Shit. This damn courier look. She's way too
classy for this.

"Guilty as charged." He smiled and tried to
stay cool.

He should have a license
to use that smile.
MJ thought.
MJ gazed at him. Was it making sense
now?

He knew what was coming next. How the hell
had he found her wallet? As usual he had acted on impulse, not
planning for one second how he would explain himself. Adam just
wanted to put the wallet and phone back into his dream girl's hands
and then have her lead him to the bedroom to take the pounding of
her life as a just reward for saving her sexy ass from identity
theft. Now he was on the spot.

"I... uh came back a little later on and saw
you leave the building."

It was the first time he had seemed to
falter; his confidence was shaky for some reason. They were still
in the doorway, she still hadn't fully admitted him into her home,
tiny and temporary as it was. The scenario wasn't playing out as
Adam had imagined it while racing to her apartment from the subway
stop. They should have been buck naked already by now.
