“You’re sure this will fly?”

Rion’s chuckle tickled the back of Jack’s neck. “There’s only one way to find out.”

“I suppose that’s true. You’re sure…” Jack trailed off. He was almost afraid to ask, even after everything.

“What?” Rion kissed the sensitive skin behind Jack’s ear.

“You’re really ready to leave?”

“I would have left the day you returned if you’d not insisted on treating me like an invalid.”

Jack had to laugh. “I promise not to do it again if you promise to not be beaten within an inch of your life.”

“Agreed.” Their arms were outstretched like wings, and Rion threaded their fingers together.

“All right. On three. One. Two. Three—”

And they flew.

Epilogue

What of the old, crumbling castle in the clouds? Many years it has stood empty now, its giant’s roar silenced. The beanstalk still grows and withers each year, and likely ever shall. The odd man—and woman—from the valley still make the treacherous climb to the castle in summer, finding no fearsome giant within.

No treasure either.

Only dust and decay, and whispered memories.

There are tales across many a land of mysterious gifts of gold and jewels left at orphanages and churches, and many mouths fed, bodies clothed, and spirits uplifted. No one knows where the riches come from, but they are eternally grateful.

Once in a blue moon, a sleepless orphan or cleric will spot two men—lifelong companions—slipping away in the dark of night, hands clasped most curiously as they journey on, their path certain as they disappear beyond the horizon.

About the Authors

After writing for years yet never really finding the right inspiration, Keira discovered her voice in gay romance, which has become a passion. She writes contemporary, historical, paranormal and fantasy fiction, and—although she loves delicious angst along the way—Keira firmly believes in happy endings. For as Oscar Wilde once said, “The good ended happily, and the bad unhappily. That is what fiction means.” You can find out more about Keira and her books at her website, and on Facebook and Twitter.

Leta's educational and professional background is in psychology and finance, respectively, but her passion has always been for writing. She enjoys crafting the romance stories that she would most like to read. At home in the Southern U.S., Leta works hard at achieving balance between her day job, her writing, and her family. You can find out more about her by following her online at her website, and on Facebook and Twitter.
