We Did It!
S
ara awakened, feeling much better! The awful sensation had passed in the night, and as she walked down the front steps, she
felt renewed and invigorated.
This is a beautiful day,
Sara thought as she began her walk to school.
Looking up ahead, she could see someone standing right out in the middle of the intersection. Sara smiled broadly as she realized
that it was Seth. When he spotted Sara, he began running toward her.
Sara couldn’t make out his words, as he was running and calling, but whatever he was saying was obviously
good
news. He was half running, half leaping, and smiling—and yelling.
And then Sara began to hear his words.
“Sara, you won’t believe it, you won’t
believe
it! He’s taking the job! He’s
taking
the job!
He’s
taking the job!
We can stay, Sara. It’s a miracle. Solomon was right, Sara!
We did it! We did it!”
Sara dropped her book bag at the roadside, and she and Seth locked forearms and jumped up and down together, shouting,
“We did it! We did it! We
did it!”
A neighbor backed out of his driveway and drove slowly past them, gawking with amused interest at their joyous roadside display.
They laughed. “Guess we look a little weird,” Seth said.
“If they only knew,” Sara laughed. “If they only knew!”
Honk, honk.
The geese honked from overhead.
Sara and Seth looked up. A magnificent flock of geese was flying by in a perfect V formation, and who was bringing up the
rear, but Solomon.
Seth and Sara squealed in delight.
Solomon broke formation and spiraled down to Sara and Seth.
“Solomon, what in the world are you doing flocking with geese?”
Well, most would find that more likely than my
flocking with you, Sara and Seth, my fine featherless
friends.
Sara and Seth laughed.
I’ve always wondered what that would be like.
“What, Solomon?”
Flying in formation. Owls don’t do that, you know.
They laughed again.
Well, see ya,
Solomon said, lifting up into the sky.
I’ve got a lot of practicing to do. They’re very strict,
you know. These geese, they like precision.
“See ya, Solomon. Meet you in our tree house?”
I’ll be there,
Solomon called back.
I’ll be there. . . .
