Chapter 22

Sitting
at a little table for two at one of Jo Ann’s favorite Italian bistros they were
enjoying their entrees when Sara’s phone went off again. Jo Ann exasperated
asked. “Is that him again?”

Nodding
confirming Jo Ann’s question she couldn’t stop smiling. He missed her and kept
texting about every 10 minute or asking when she would be done or he texted
naughty things he said he would do if she came home now. Jo Ann seeing Sara
more enthralled with her phone then their conversation, decided to call it a
night. She knew Sara wanted to be home with Eric and was only staying because
she had committed to their dinner before Eric and she wasn’t the kind of person
who left her friends flapping in the wind.

“Hey
Sara”

Sara
looked up from her phone when Jo Ann called out her name. She quickly put her
phone down. “I’m sorry I’m being rude, I promise I won’t pick up my phone again
till after dinner is over.” And with that she dropped her phone into her purse
and set it back on the floor.

“It’s
fine, I was actually going to tell you that I’m a little more tired from today
then I thought so if it was alright with you I was gonna call it a night.”

Sara
couldn’t keep the excitement out of her voice. “Really you’re sure we haven’t
had dessert yet.”

Jo
Ann smiled Sara was trying to be sincere when she knew she really wanted to be
somewhere else. “Yeah I’m sure.”

They
asked for their separate bills, paid, hugged goodbye and went their separate
ways. Sara had never been so impatient to get home. She swore she got every red
light and was stuck behind every slow driver that ever drove in San Diego.
While sitting at a red light she texted Eric.

To:
Eric Morales

Coming
home now, meet me there.

Sara
wanted to freshen up a little before Eric got there so she parked and hastily
walked to her apartment. To her surprise Eric was already there, leaning
against her door. In her hast to get to her apartment she didn’t notice Eric’s
truck parked in the visitor’s space. She slowed her steps and he stood up to
his full height as she approached with a blatantly smug look on his face. No
doubt from the fact that he not only beat her to her apartment but that she was
shocked he did.

“How
did you beat me here? I only texted you from a few blocks away.”

“I
have my ways.” He said teasingly, he reached for her and pulled her in close.
“What have you done to me? I couldn’t think of anything but you.”

“Same
here.” She stepped up onto her tippy toes to reach his lips for a kiss. Of
course a simple kiss wasn’t good enough, so he pulled her up and laid one on
her so smoking hot her toes curled in her shoes. Setting her back down he
grabbed the keys from her hand and opened her door, tugging her in and back to
her bedroom to break in the new mattress and to make good on some of the texts
he had sent her.

Spent
and completely languid from their love making, he lay with her spread across
his chest, dragging his fingertips up and down her back loving the feel of her
soft supple skin.

“Is
that what I think it is?” She reached down to confirm what she suspected.

Chuckling
he answered “Yes it is.”

“Again?
You’re insatiable.”

Flipping
them over so that he was on top he nudged her with his nose and placed
fluttering kisses on her face.

“It’s
you, I can’t get enough of you, I know this will sound crazy, us knowing each
other for so little time but when I’m not with you I can’t stop thinking about
you. When I’m with you I want to be inside you. If I could I’d keep you locked
in this room with me and never let you out. And if I had to let you out I’d
have my ring on your finger and my name tattooed on you so everyone would see
that you are mine.” As he was talking he was maneuvering himself in between her
legs and as he said mine he sled into her warm depths to make his point. He
made love to her slowly thoroughly whispering to her over and over how he wanted
her, needed her and how she was his and only his.

When
she came it was the most intimate emotional climax she had ever experienced.
And as she cried out his name it was more of litany with tears falling from her
eyes. When Eric met his release it was the most profound feeling, he had never
felt anything so strong, he had never felt closer to a person then he did right
now at this moment. And as he gazed down into her eyes shining with tears he
saw his whole future with her. For the first time ever he was in love, how
funny that it could hit him so hard and so fast. He wiped her eyes away and
took her lips in a long languorous kiss. As he pulled out of her to cuddle next
to her, it was then he realized he hadn’t used a condom again and Sara hadn’t
noticed, but now he didn’t care, he loved her. A part of him wished his seed
would take root in her belly. It was crazy, love like this only happens in
movies and books; but here he was lying next to a woman he had only known for
three days and he was entirely and emphatically in love with her.

Sara
lay awake in Eric’s arms; he had fallen asleep holding her close to him his
face buried in her hair. She was in shock, replaying his words.

Did he really say he would put his ring
on her finger if he could? Did she imagine that or did he say it as a figure of
speech to emphasize how he wanted to possess her? She knew how she felt was it
possible he felt the same way?

She
thought back to the look on his face while they made love, what she saw she
could only be described as an almost reverenced look. As her body was tired her
eyes slowly closed as she fell asleep unable to answer her own questions.

Monday had set a pattern for their work week. He would come over
after work, they ate dinner that either he would bring or she would cook
depending on how tired she was; and then they’d make love. Sometimes he stayed
others nights he had to be home. On the nights he stayed in the morning he
would make her breakfast as usual.

Work for Sara was getting easier as she got to know the computer system,
filing system, clothing distributors and all the like. She and Jo Ann would eat
lunch together and she would divulge her latest tryst with Eric. Jo Ann lived
off her stories the way she used to live off Jen’s. Jo Ann wasn’t hard up she
could get a date if she wanted. She was smart, beautiful, and funny but after a
nasty break up with her boyfriend of two years she decided to put her dating
membership on hold.

Come the weekend Eric took her to Old Town as he had planned last
weekend. And as he expected she absolutely loved it. They went into so many
shops Eric had lost count. She ended up buying a cameo necklace, a blown glass
vase and Eric bought her a silver ring with intricate scrolls and loops that
held her birth stone in the middle. They had gone to his favorite restaurant,
she ordered the ridiculously huge margarita and to Eric’s surprise drank it
all. Of course she was tipsy afterward which made for a very interesting night
when they got to her apartment. All he could say was that he was surprised the
neighbors hadn’t complained.

They slept in Sunday morning had brunch at Denny’s then went to
Eric’s aunt Sofia’s house for dinner again. This time there was no blind date
for Gio, Sara was sure Sofia was just regrouping. She surmised that Sofia was a
tenacious woman and wouldn’t give up so easily. Matt was noticeably cooler
toward her and Eric a bit more relaxed she had to wonder if he had said
something to his younger cousin that prompted this change. She was able to talk
more with Gio’s sister Brianna this time. She was going to a community college
nearby, studying business management. She was awarded a scholarship to a big
name school back east but she didn’t want to leave her family. She also didn’t
want to burden her mother with a big tuition, so she decided she’d save money by
going to a community college her first two years then she’d transfer to San
Diego State.

Eric’s mother Nadia seemed to like the fact that she had joined
them again, Brianna had let it slip that Eric never brought his women to the
family dinner. She didn’t even say girlfriend she said women, which started
Sara thinking on just how many women he had been with. When they said their
goodbyes after dinner Nadia didn’t just hug Sara but gave her a kiss on each
cheek.

Having spent the whole day without touching her intimately as soon
as they were through the door he kicked it shut. He pulled her to him and
lifted her up and took her right there against the wall. Sara thinking through
her lust filled mind reminded him.

“Condom.” She mumbled trying to pull her mouth away from his
kisses to talk.

Eric was aggravated that she had reminded him about the condom, He
didn’t want to stop to put one on. Now that he was inside her he wanted to
finish inside her. Since he had never had sex without a condom before he didn’t
realize how much of a difference the sensation was without one it felt so much
better.

“I’ll pull out, baby you feel so good don’t make me stop.”

It was the first time he had ever pleaded to her. Her answering
kiss was all the confirmation he needed. He didn’t want it to be so quick but
he felt himself building, not wanting to cum until she did, he pressed her
harder up against the wall for a little more support, he squeezed his hand in
between them roughly pinched and rolled her throbbing clit. In no time at all
she was coming around him, he released her clit grabbed on to her ass again and
pushed himself till he felt he was at the edge. And even thou he didn’t want to
he pulled out just as his cum burst out from his pulsating cock. He had cummed partly
on her skirt and some of it was dripping down her leg. He let her down to stand
once more and apologized for soiling her skirt.

“It’s no big whoop it will wash out. Now how about we take a
shower and then go a little slower.” She suggested with vixenish smile, rubbing
her hand up and down his chest.

“Perfect”

Chapter 23

The
next couple of days flew by in the same manner as they did last week until her
Wednesday lunch with Jo Ann. Sara was talking about it being time to buy a sofa
set and that she had put if off so long because she was spending most of her
time with Eric in the bedroom that the few times they were in the living room
and actually watching TV it hadn’t bothered either one of them to sit on the
floor. She told Jo Ann how she was taking Eric to get his take on which couch
would be good for her. It was after that comment that Jo Ann had asked a simple
question.

“Well,
how do you know he has good taste for furniture? What’s his house look like?”

The
simple meaningless question floored her. She had been so tied up in her
feelings and Eric’s amorous attention that she hadn’t really noticed that they
always stay at her place never his. Jo Ann waited for a response, when she
didn’t get one she got suspicious.

“You
have been to his house right?”

Hesitantly
Sara answered “No”

Now
it was Jo Ann’s turn to be floored she all but shouted at Sara. “Let me get
this straight, you spend nearly every night with him for the past what 12 days?
You’ve all but told him you’re in love with him and you’ve never been to his
house? He’s got to be hiding something.”

Sara
was a little insulted at Jo Ann’s accusation. “He’s not hiding anything he
wouldn’t have taken me to meet his family if he was hiding something because
they would most likely give it away by accident. My apartment is just easier.”

Jo
Ann shook her head “I’m not trying to be Debbie downer but if you haven’t been
inside his house once then there’s a reason.”

Sara
no longer wanting to talk about it changed the subject and they finished their
lunch with benign chatter.

That
night after their passionate romp as she lay in his arms she asked the question
that had been bothering her all day since lunch.

“Eric?”

“Mmmmm
yes baby.” He was comfortable sated and was falling asleep slowly.

“Why
have we never gone to your house?”

His
eyes shot open, that question woke him up.
“Shit”
he cursed at himself. He was hoping Tracy would be gone before Sara asked about
going to his place. Well no such luck, how was he going to explain to her about
Tracy? He knew she had trust issues thanks that prick of an ex. How could he
tell her without him losing her trust or thinking he was hiding things from
her? Well actually he was hiding this from her but that was only because he was
pretty sure she’d take it wrong jump to conclusions and then never trust him. When
he didn’t answer she asked again.

“Eric
did you hear me?”

“Yes
baby I heard you.”

“Are
you going to answer me?”

He
answered her question trying to use general terms staying away from her or she.
“I have an old friend staying at the house and I thought it’d rude to take you
there, you’re pretty loud most of the time and I’m sure in my house no matter
what room you’re in you would be heard.”

Sara
was relieved a friend, that’s innocent enough. “Oh, well I guess I can
understand that, how long will he be staying?”

Of
course she would ask that and now that she asked how long
he
was staying if he didn’t correct her he’d be lying. “Well,
actually she is only supposed to be there for a couple of weeks.”

“She”
That word
hit her like a wrecking ball. She immediately got off his chest. Clasped the
sheet to cover her breasts and pushed away from him.

“What
do you mean she? You have a woman living with you. And you said nothing to me
about it.” Sara was hurt, she tried not to cry but the more she thought the
more the tears would well up.

Eric
quickly sat up and tried to calm her down and explain.

“Baby,
Baby listen to me ok let me explain.” Eric tried to bring her closer to him
while he talked but for the first time she rejected his touch. “Baby it’s a
really long story and not a pretty one but I’m obviously going to have to tell
you so you won’t jump to the wrong conclusions.” He let out a long painful sigh
“I owe Tracy my life.”

Sara
had been wiping the falling tears from her eyes she wasn’t sure she heard him
right.

“What?
She saved your life how?”

“First
you have to understand that I’m a different person now.” Eric settled himself
in as comfortable of a position as he could before he told Sara about his dark
past. “My Father died when I was young, car accident a drunk driver hit him.
The driver had no insurance and my father had no life insurance. So that left
my mom struggling. My Aunt Sofia and Uncle Luis helped out when they could, but
they were a working class family and they had their own three kids to support.
I started hanging out with the local set.”

Sara
cut in “Set?”

“Gang.”
He clarified then continued. “At thirteen I was jumped in and was now a full
member. I started doing stuff for money, little stuff at first, hubcaps, and
radios if someone needed it I would find it. As I got older I wanted to start
making serious cash, so I started holding, and then I started delivering and
then selling.”

Sara
cut in again “Selling? You mean drugs?”

He
didn’t like the look on Sara’s face she was taken aback by his confession and
he hadn’t even gotten to the bad part yet.

“Yes,
drugs. I gave my mom most of the money I made, she would ask where it came from
and I’d tell her I took on side jobs after school. We needed the money so she
never really questioned it. I was rising in the ranks and becoming one of the
most successful dealers in our set ‘cause I never got picked up. I could smell
a nark a mile away. Tracy and I would hang out from time to time. Hooking up
every now again; James wanted to help my mom with money too. He was a good kid,
he hung around with us sometimes but most of the time he kept to himself
reading and crap like that. He always had good grades. Well a couple of our
captains wanted us to expand our turf you know to bring in more money. So we
started undercutting our competition to bring more business in.” Now he was
getting to the hard part. He took a deep breath and tried his best to control
his emotions as he went on. “One night James was hanging around with us, he
wanted to know if we had any small side jobs we needed done. It was James,
Tracy, Edgar, Mickey and myself. We were just kicking back in front of Tracy’s
apartment. I had my car radio on with the windows rolled down so we could hear
some music. I started to have a bad feeling you know like in your gut. But I
didn’t notice soon enough. By the time I noticed the car creeping up with its
headlights turned off it was too late; they were already shooting Tracy knocked
me down to the ground, the bullets flying over us, but James, he was just in
shock and didn’t move. He took three bullets in the chest and one in the leg,
Edgar was hit in the arm. As fast as they had come they fired and left speeding
away. I got up and ran to James, he was bleeding so much, we couldn’t stop it,
the ambulance didn’t get there fast enough and James died in my arms. I was so
messed up over James, when the cops arrived asking questions taking statements
I just couldn’t think. Well one cop peeked in to my car the radio still playing;
he saw part of my stash poking out from under the seat. I was almost 18 and
with the amount they found when they searched my car, I was looking at a lot of
time. When the cop asked who’s drugs they were Tracy stood up and said they
were hers. She was almost sixteen at the time with no record. I didn’t ask her
to but she did that for me.”

“That
night changed everything for me. James should never have been there and if it
weren’t for me he would be here today. I cleaned up my act, I had money set
aside from dealing, and I used it and opened a stand at the swap meet. And it
just went on from there. Tracy did her time got out and was on probation. But
she still hung around with the set. Well as they say better late than never,
Tracy decided she wanted a better life so she stopped all association. Now
she’s found herself in a hard place and asked if I could help her out. Let her
crash for a couple weeks till she gets resituated.”

His
story told he waited for Sara’s reaction. Her face was blank he couldn’t get a
read on how she was feeling but she had tears running down her face. He really
hoped that she would understand and not throw him out.

Swiping
her hand at her tears her voice soft and quivering she asked.

“Why
didn’t you tell me?”

“About
Tracy? I know you have trust issues and I didn’t want you running bad thoughts
through your head.”

“No,
about your brother.”

For
the first time ever he avoid her gaze “It’s hurts to talk about, knowing I’m
the reason he’s not standing here today. It’s not something I want to
broadcast.”

Sara
dropped her hold on the sheet and went into his arms, burying her face in his
neck crying for the pain he was in. “I’m so sorry that you lost your brother
that way.”

Eric
held onto her tightly fighting his own tears.

“Baby
I promise you nothing is going on between me and Tracy but I need you to
understand why I’m helping her.”

Sara
sniffled and pulled back to see his face.

“You
said that you guys hung out and hooked up a couple times, so you have slept
with her?”

“Yes,
but that was years ago, it’s not like that between us anymore. You’re all I
want Sara, only you...I love you.”
