“Yes, Mr. Reynolds. Subtle, isn’t he?” I reply cheekily.

“Truth is a lot of things but I would never call him subtle,” chuckles Dane. He pulls me in again, kisses my lips, then turns me around and pushes me toward the stage. “Go on, go play!”

I laugh as I make my way back to the stage and put on my guitar, shaking my head at Truth.

“Christmas is a time for celebrating, for cherishing those we love and showing goodwill to those less fortunate than ourselves. As you know we are The Grinders and our fans have been good to us. We support many different charities and don’t worry I’m not going to burden you with the details,” says Truth as he chuckles into the mic. “Your very honorable, Mayor Leaverton, has a donation box for the less than fortunate citizens of Tourmaline. This is one of the reasons that we all,” and he looks at us behind him, “The Grinders love Tourmaline, you look after your own.” The crowd cheers. “And you have accepted us and our wacky ways into your beautiful little town.” Many nod and laugh and a few shout out at Truth to get on with it. “All right! All right! Just one last thing, well, three last things.” A few groans can be heard in the crowd. Truth smiles at them and holds up his hands in mock surrender. “The first is, we are donating fifty thousand dollars
each
to the Tourmaline Charity.” At this, the crowd roars and Truth is in his element. “The second is that we encourage you to donate into the box that is near the Church, even if it’s only spare change, it all adds up. And the third thing is....” He looks around at the crowd and then unhooks the mic and comes and stands by me. Truth whispers into my ear, “Are you sure about this?”

“It’s now or never, and this way, I’m telling everyone at once so there’s no fuss,” I whisper back.

He tilts his head to the side, winks and puts the mic back to his mouth. “Dane, buddy, where are you?” Dane stands up in the back of a truck and waves at Truth, he’s smiling. “Do you know what you’ve done?” Dane raises his hands in the air signaling he has no idea. “Well, Dane let me be the first to congratulate you. You, Sir, are going to be a father!”

The crowd goes deathly quiet, and then there is much clapping and the sound of the crowd surges to an almighty roar. I’m staring at Dane and he looks shocked. I watch as he jumps off the truck and runs toward me, his eyes, never leaving my face.

The Grinders begin playing ‘All I Want For Christmas is You’ but I’m not moving. I can’t tell from Dane’s face if he’s happy or mad? He walks up onto the stage, both hands go to my stomach.

“Is it true?” he whispers. I nod unable to speak. A grin spreads across his face and he nods at me. “We’re going to have a baby?”

“Yeah, honey, we are,” my voice is thick with emotion, and Dane surprises me by dropping to his knees and kissing my stomach. The crowd cheers and I’m overcome as tears course down my cheeks.

Dane stands and cups my face, kissing me lightly at first, then deepening the kiss into something that should only be done in our bedroom. I feel it right down to my toes. When he stops I’m gasping for breath and wanting more.

Dane winks at me. “You better join in, darlin’, the crowd paid for a show, but not
that
kind of show.”

“They didn’t pay, we’re doing it for free,” I blurt out.

“Well, I’m not good at public displays of affection but when I get you home...”

I feel that familiar burn course through my body at the thought of what he’s going to do to me. I smile at him seductively, swing my guitar around so it’s at the front of me and start to play. I look at those I consider family and finally feel complete...well, almost.

Epilogue
Dane

T
he Houston Chapter has gone from strength to strength under Lester’s leadership. He even had the idea to expand Tourmaline Transport to Houston and so far the profits for him, and me, have been good. My only concern is that no one knows where Milo went to. He’s one vindictive mother fucker, so I’m sure he’ll be back to get his revenge.

According to Lester, Milo threatened him and me saying,
‘If it’s the last fucking thing I do I’ll get you and Reynolds for taking what’s mine.’
I’m not worried it’s not the first and it won’t be the last time someone threatens me.

About ten men left the Houston Chapter, showing Milo they were loyal to him. I’ve reached out to most of them and told them that if they want to come back, they can, but not to take too fucking long. Time will tell if they return to us.

Kat and The Grinders got drawn into a nasty legal confrontation with the surviving members of Rockplay. They tried to sue them claiming that it was The Grinders fault that they were dumped by their record company and lost market share because they refused to tour with them.

It went to court but thankfully the Judge threw it out and even made a comment about
their disgusting sexual assaults.
Dave was never going to pay them a dime. He can be ruthless when he wants.

The Rockplay members are facing a massive civil suit as more than thirty women have come forward with a similar story to that of Cherry Shephard. The Grinders set up a memorial for her in her hometown so she will never be forgotten.

I’m thinking about all this as I watch Kat waddle around our garden at the back of our house. She’s gotten really big. The doctors assure me it’s only one baby but my woman looks like someone has strapped a large basketball to her. It’s not been an easy pregnancy.

Morning sickness made us both sick and don’t believe what they tell you,
it’s all fucking day sickness
. It finally stopped after five months. To be careful, I took out of the house everything that made her sick, coffee, fish, bananas, and beer. Kat was puking at the smell of them and I do not want to go through that again.

These last two weeks Kat has been complaining that she can’t see her feet anymore. Honestly, she looks more beautiful now than ever. She’s glowing and radiant.

Right now, I’m watching her as she’s trying to pick up something that she’s dropped on the ground. Kat has lowered herself to the ground to get it, but I don’t think she can get back up. I open the back door, walk to the edge of the deck and look down on her from above.

“Need any help there, darlin’.”

“I’m stuck! Pregnancy sucks! I can’t bend over, I can’t sleep, I can’t do anything!”

I chuckle and walk down the stairs to her, reaching under her arms I help her to her feet.

“There, not so bad, is it?” I smirk at her.

“Bloody hell!” Kat yells.

“What?” I openly laugh at her.

“I left the spade down there when you helped me up!” Kat pouts.

At her feet is a small hand spade with a pink handle, I bend, pick it up, and hand it to her. “All you have to do is ask, I am at your command.”

Kat has her mouth all screwed up and her eyebrows are drawn together, she looks adorable but from the look on her face if I laugh she’s going to stab me with the spade.

“Come with me,” she orders grabbing my hand. Kat walks toward the small greenhouse I had the boys erect for her when she said she wanted to grow her own vegetables, for the baby. She lets go of my hand and opens the door and I follow her inside.

Kat sits on a chair and holds out the spade to me. “I need you to plant all those little pots I have on the counter there. Carlos brought them to me from his garden, he says they should be planted within the next two weeks but could you do it today?”

There must be a dozen little pots on the bench. Inwardly, I groan but outwardly I smile and say, “No problem beautiful, where do you want them.”

“My feet are swollen, I can bearly get my shoes on.”

This time, I do laugh, I kneel down in front of her, take off her shoe, and rub her foot. “How about we leave the pots for today and I help you into a bath, massage your feet and help you to relax?”

Kat looks around the greenhouse and scowls. “Gardening isn’t fun when you’re the size of a house.”

“No, I’m guessing it isn’t but you aren’t that big darlin’ and you’re carrying my child in there. I don’t mind taking care of you.” Her face softens and she holds out her hands to me. I stand and pull her to her feet. “Ah, darlin’, you’ve only got one shoe on.”

“I’m too fat to try and put it on and it doesn’t fit very well anyway,” Kat complains as she heads toward the house.

I bend and pick it up then jog to catch up with her. “Does this mean you are taking me up on my offer?”

“Only if you take advantage of the pregnant lady.” Kat grins.

“It’s what I was planning on doing all along, you’ve seen straight through my evil plan,” I tease her.

I make her walk around to the front of the house and go up those stairs as there aren’t as many and when we get inside she stops at the base of the staircase, looking up. We do have an elevator at the back of the house but I can tell what she’s thinking. When we first met I carried her up these stairs, and have done often since, but not lately. Kat goes to walk away from them, and I bend and scoop her up.

“Dane! I’m too heavy!” yells Kat.

“No, you’re not. Hold on,” I order with a smile.

Kat snakes an arm around my neck, and rests her head on my chest. “I’m going to miss this when we get old.”

“Darlin’ I’ll never be that fucking old.”

I take the steps one at a time, making sure I don’t rush as I’m carrying my most precious cargo. When we reach our bedroom the door is open and I walk straight to the bathroom, slowly lowering her onto the floor.

“Dane?”

“Yeah?”

“I love you.”

I wrap my arms around her and she puts her hands up under my tee. We stay like that for a while, enjoying the feel of each other.

“Dane?”

“Yeah?” I say to the top her head.

“I’m thirsty.”

A chuckle escapes me. “What would you like?”

“Can I have one of those fruity drinks you got me from the juice place in town?”

“Sure can. I’ll go get it. I’m going to start the bath, think you can get undressed by yourself?”

“Yes! I’m pregnant not an invalid.”

I kiss the top of her head and chuckle, she’s feisty and I wouldn’t have her any other way.
