As she and Tom progressed up the brick walk, her eyes traced every angle of Carlos’s face and his growing smile brought her own to her lips. It seemed like it took forever to close the distance, but then the preacher was asking who was giving this woman away, and with a kiss on her cheek, Tom was taking his seat.

Carlos took her hands in his rough, working-man’s hands and his smile stretched, his white teeth flashing in an expression that left her truly dazzled. He squeezed her hands. “You ready for this?”

Alma glanced over toward her mother, to Sam in her lap, and she took a deep, shivery, happy breath as she faced her soon-to-be-husband again. “Absolutely.”
