He tried to think through the rage, this attack was not the work of a professional that much he knew.  How was that possible? When the bastard had been so careful the first time. The questions where piling up, with no answers in sight. Having no answers didn’t sit well with him at all. It down right pissed him off. He needed answers; like what the hell happened between Camille and Bordereau. A simple break up wouldn’t have him coming all the way to the states to try and kill her. It was obvious Camille was holding something back and he needed to know what it was. Before the bastard succeeded in killing her.

He flipped his phone and got Butch on the line. “Hey what the fuck is going on? I just heard

On the police scanner that there’s been a shooting at the hospital.” Dillon took a deep breath to try to calm down. “Yeah the bastard tried to kill Cam while we were leaving the hospital, there are a few wounded and two that are critical. I need a pick up while I stay and give the police a statement.” Butch could hear in the tone of Dillon’s voice that his friend was trying to tap down the rage he was feeling. “My ETA is about ten minutes.”

Dillon disconnected the call. Then he walked toward Camille. He helped her walk inside to the lobby of the hospital. “Some….someone tried to kill me, I don’t understand, why me what did I ever do for someone to want to kill me?” It was the innocence of the question and the sheer pain behind the words, which made him want to hit something or someone. There were no answers for now. “It’s okay Cam, I’m here and your okay, it’s going to be okay I promise. But right now I need you to go with Butch when he comes to pick you up.” Camille lifted her face to look up at him, his green eyes were dark. Camille knew that look; she hadn’t seen it often, but it was there on his face now. Dillon was ready to go hunting and that didn’t bode well for anyone. “No, Dillon please let’s just go right now please.” She was clinging to him; with her small hands fisted in his shirt. “Cam, baby listen to me I have to deal with the police and you don’t need to be here for that. As soon as I finish I will come home. I need you to go with Butch and Trace, do you understand?” Camille looked at him and then shook her head in agreement. Dillon wiped her tear stained face and kissed her forehead. When he saw Butch pull up he led her out to the car and put her in the back seat. Butch was driving. Trace got in the front seat. “You stick close to her.” Trace nodded his head it was slight but enough that Dillon saw it and knew what it meant. Nothing better happen to Camille. Dillon trusted Butch but Trace the jury was still out. Putting aside his jealousy, Dillon just didn’t know if Trace was up for the challenge.

It had been hours since the shooting at the hospital. Camille sat on the couch with her legs folded underneath her body, staring into the fire in the fireplace; she had been quiet since they got back. All she could think about was Dillon he had been gone a long time. He had called in once for Zane to check on a license plate. Daniel had been waiting on them when they arrived at Dillon’s; he was pacing the floor now. He had been trying to talk her into going home with him. He had threatened and begged to no avail.

Camille was determined to stay she would not put him or Tina or their unborn child in danger. “Danny why don’t you go home Tina has to be worried.” He stopped pacing long enough to glare at her. “She is worried about both of us and that cannot be good for her or the baby.” That was a low blow; he was using Tina and the baby. “That’s not fair and you know it. I love Tina and I would never do anything to willingly cause her harm.”

Daniel stopped pacing and sat down in the chair across from her. He was rubbing the back of his neck, an old habit he had whenever he felt stressed. “Camille listen to me, you need to tell me what’s going on with you and Dillon? Camille tried to hide her surprise at her brother’s question. Someone tried to kill her and he was more concerned about her relationship with Dillon. She wished there was something, anything going on between them. Other than him trying to protect her. “There is nothing going on between me and Dillon, he’s just trying to help and even if there where something going on and I’m not saying that there is. That would be between Dillon and me.”

Now Daniel was rubbing his neck even harder. “Damn it Camille you know Dillon’s reputation as well as anyone, he is not the type of man to settle down, most of his relationships only last a few weeks if that and they are strictly for sex. I know you’ve had a crush on him since you where sixteen.” Camille held up her hand to stop what was coming next. “Just for the record I’ve had a crush on him since I was eight, and your right I know what type of man Dillon is. I’m a big girl and I can take care of myself. I love you Danny but I won’t talk about this with you.” Daniel was gearing up when they heard Dillon’s
voice; Daniel turned and marched into the kitchen. Camille just rolled her eyes and sighed, god deliver her from men who thought they knew what was best for her. First Dillon and now her brother were trying to tell her how to live her life.

She sat quietly listening to the hushed voices in the kitchen, she heard Butch tell Dillon that she would not eat until she knew that he was all right. The four of them were like mother hens. Camille had decided she had had enough, she retreated to Dillon’s bedroom, once inside she leaned against the door her body shuddered with relief that Dillon was safe. She stripped her clothes off and headed for the shower, she needed to pull herself together.

Daniel stood still and listened to Dillon recount what happened, and the questioning he got from the police. Dillon ignored Daniel’s menacing stare. “Zane I need you and Butch to work your magic on that plate I gave you, I would bet my last dime the car is stolen, but see what you can find out.  Butch, if they find the car, I need you to work your contacts. I want you in that car. This feels different, I think we may have two unsubs, if that’s the case maybe it’s Bordereau after all and he’s got a partner.

Dillon turned and watched Daniel carefully, he had his arms crossed over his board chest and he was scowling at him. “What’s on your mind Danny?” there was a long pause before Daniel spoke. “I want to know what’s really going on here.” Dillon gave him an incredulous look. “I have told you everything we’ve found out so far, this guy is really good at what he does, and the thing today well I just don’t know. The first attempt was sloppy but there was nothing left behind. It felt more professional. The second attempt was in board daylight, that’s not a good sign. It means he’s getting bold or whoever he’s working is getting bold and careless. We won’t be that lucky again.” Daniel dropped his arms and walked around the center island to stand in front of Dillon. “That’s not what I meant and you know it. What’s going on between you and my sister? She was nearly hysterical when they brought her back here, she didn’t want to eat and she almost jumped out of her skin each time the phone rang. I asked her, she just says nothing is going on in one breath and then in the next she is saying it’s none of my business.”  Zane and Butch watched as their two friends squared off. They would stay out of the way unless things got out of hand. This had been a long time in the making and they needed to get it out in the open one and for all.

Dillon went to the refrigerator and started removing the ingredients to make a sandwich. “There is nothing going on between Camille and me. She was right about one thing, it’s none of your business if there where something going on. We need to catch the bastards that are trying to hurt her. Go home to Tina and I’ll keep you posted.” Dillon wouldn’t make eye contact with his best friend. How was he supposed to tell Danny that, he wanted Camille so badly that his body actually hurt? You didn’t tell your best friend that you wanted to fuck his sister senseless. Of course there was more to it than that.  However, he didn’t think that would go over so well. Besides he didn’t want to get into it with him or anyone else for that matter. What he felt for Camille was no one’s business. Daniel shot him a disgruntle look, he wasn’t going to let it go. It was Zane who stepped in between them. “Listen, it’s been a long day for all of us. We need to concentrate on the matter at hand; which is who the hell is trying to hurt Camille. Let’s stay on point shall we.”

Daniel backed off. Zane was right as usual and deep down he knew Dillon would put himself between Camille and a bullet. There was no one he trusted more to look after Camille. Daniel knew that Dillon felt something more than friendship for Camille, it started when she was sixteen. Dillon seemed to look at her differently than he had before. Daniel watched Dillon fight whatever he was feeling. In addition, he knew then that Dillon would never act on it. Things
were different now she was all grown up. Dillon had a dark side Daniel had seen it for himself in their younger years they did things that made him cringe when he thought back on it now. He didn’t want to see Camille hurt, that was the bottom line. He decided to let it go and go home to his wife.

Once his friend was gone Dillon set about finishing the sandwich he was making for Camille, he still remembered her favorite turkey on rye with hot mustard, he place some fresh fruit in a bowl he poured some fresh orange juice. He moved to the drawer by the stove and found silverware along with a linen napkin to wrap the silverware in. Once he was done, he put everything on a tray and headed upstairs. He would take a shower and then make sure she ate.

Camille stood under the hot spray of water and just cried, the relief she felt that Dillon was safe was overwhelming, she hadn’t realized just how worried she had been. Just thinking about it started a new wave of tears. She would get it out of her system before she saw Dillon again, she knew he hated to see her cry and he would not like it if he knew she was upset because of him. It would only make him think he was right about not being the right man for her, that his life style was too dangerous and he didn’t want anyone worrying about him. Worrying about his safety kept her from thinking about the fact that someone out there wanted her dead. Was it Luc? He’d threatened her before when he was drunk out of his mind. But to actually go to the trouble of coming to the states just to harm her. That didn’t sound like Luc; he would have already found someone else to obsess over.

Camille turned off the water and grabbed a large towel; she stepped out of the shower and set about drying off, then started brushing her hair and after that smearing on her favorite scented lotion, the scent of jasmine always made her feel better.

When she was done, she wrapped the large towel around her body and secured it by tucking the ends in between her breasts. When she walked out of the bathroom, she saw Dillon sitting on the side of the bed, his hair was damp and he was wearing sweatpants and a loose fitting tee shirt. He flashed her that killer smile that made her insides melt. Dillon was tall dark and insanely handsome, his rugged good looks made her mouth water.

“Hey, I thought you might be hungry, so I made you your favorite turkey on rye with lots of hot mustard.” Camille looked at him; he was relaxed even after everything they had been through earlier in the day. He made her want things she knew he would never be willing to give. She
wanted commitment and she even thought she wanted children, In that one single moment, Camille knew what she wanted, no what she needed and that was Dillon and if that meant for only one night she would take it. She gathered her strength as she walked over and stood in front of him. Dillon tracked her movement and when she was just a few feet away, he caught the intoxicating scent of her body lotion. The scent of jasmine filled his lungs and made his mouth water.

She was more upset than he thought; she only used the special scented lotion when she was trying to make herself feel better. She should have a lifetime supply, because every Christmas they all took turns buying her the insanely expensive lotion. That thought shook him, the realization that he knew this beautiful, fragile young woman better than he knew any female. If he where honest with himself he never wanted to know any woman that well, keeping things causal was all he wanted from women except for Camille. From her he wanted her happy and safe and if he admitted it, he wanted her all to himself. He could be a possessive bastard and he wanted nothing more than to be the only man in her life, worshiping that sexy body of hers.

Suddenly he snapped out of that train of thought to see Camille slowly come closer, when she was standing directly in front of him, she stared into his eyes. Without saying a word she lifted, her left hand to the towel wrapped around her body and loosened where it was tucked. In one swift movement, the towel fell to the floor pooling around her ankles. Dillon looked at her naked before him. Her dark nipples where hard pebbles. He let his eyes move over her body, down her smooth flat stomach to her core which to his surprise was waxed clean of any hair, she couldn’t know how much that turned him on. He wanted nothing to interfere with his exploration of that part of a woman. He noticed the skin there was so very smooth and glistened with moisture and all he wanted in that moment was to drop to his knees and worship her until she screamed his name.

“Dillon.” She got his attention when he heard his name. He looked up into her big brown eyes; he saw the longing and need in her eyes. They were dark with desire.

Without saying the words, she was pleading with him she was just as desperate for this as he was. He had fought his need for her so long that once just once he wanted to indulge the almost unbearable need he had to be deep inside her, he wanted to lose himself in Camille. “Cam you need to think about this.”

Camille stepped closer and reached out to take his hand. She pulled him to his feet and then she put her hand on his chest. Camille marveled at the hard muscle of his chest, and the feel of it under her hand. She stood on tiptoe and brushed her lips gently against his, before pulling back she licked his bottom lip. Whatever will power Dillon might have processed slipped away as he hissed and wrapped his arms around her naked body he pulled her close as he took her month with a possessiveness he could no longer hide. Camille opened her mouth letting him in as their tongues dueled with each other. They were both riding on extreme desire and nothing else.
