Snow blushed, despite the position she lay in, pressed tight against Ty’s still semi-erect cock.

“I was wondering why you didn’t want me to.... see to you.” She stammered.

Ty’s chest rumbled – whether from a growl or a chuckle, she didn’t know – behind her.

Jacob threw himself down in her armchair opposite, and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees as he considered her. His gaze lifted behind her first, before he replied, as if checking with Ty before speaking.

She felt Ty’s head shift in response.

“What?” Snow lifted up her head and looked from one impossible gorgeous man to the other. “What are you two hiding?”

Chapter Ten

Ty blew out an exasperated breath, and pressed her head back against his heaving chest, so she couldn’t see him. Her eyes watched Jacob’s expression though, as concern and anger crossed his features.

Eventually he responded, picking his words carefully. “One of us always has to be there, to keep the woman safe. We can enjoy it, but we can’t get too involved ourselves, because we need to be on alert.”

“On alert.”

He sighed. “When a werebear comes inside a human woman, it can cause … trouble.”

“Trouble? Like pregnancy?”

He shook his head, his long blond hair falling around his shoulders like an angelic halo. “No, it can be fatal.”

Snow sat up straight, her head spinning from Ty to Jacob in dawning horror. “Fatal?”

Ty closed his eyes briefly, and then opened them again, capturing her in his hooded gaze. “I didn’t intend to come inside you, but you made it so hard to –“

The sound of her slap across his strong jaw ricocheted around the room like a gunshot. Jacob sprang to his feet, as if ready to defend her against Ty’s reaction.

Her own anger overrode the fear of antagonising this man, and she scrambled away from him, standing over him with her legs askance, arms on hips as she turned on him. “Don’t you blame
that
on
me
mister! I had no idea of what was involved. You two,”she shot a withering look at Jacob too, “did NOT have my informed consent to put me at that kind of risk.”

“You weren’t at risk, Snow. I’m confident of that. Your honey mead has remarkable powers, sweetheart. We’ve only just begun to understand it’s protective properties, and— ” Jacob tried to reassure her, putting a hand on her shoulder, but she shrugged it off.

“Confident’s not good enough. What was I, some kind of
experiment
to you two?” she questioned in horror, fighting rising panic and nausea as she back away from them.

Snow grabbed a cotton throw off the armchair and wrapped it around herself, covering her shaking body with a pitiful layer of protection.

Ty was standing up now too, a pained expression on his face. He reached out an arm towards her, but didn’t move closer, as if sensing she was about to bolt any minute. “Snow, it’s not you that were in danger. It’s me.” He stated bluntly. “If a werebear ejaculates in a human, the usual outcome is he’s no longer able to shift, and his body shuts down. Within days, he’s dead.”

Snow shook her head in confusion, trying to take it all in … especially the fact she wasn’t the one at risk, Ty was.

“Our elders, and Dax, suspect it’s a recent change – nature’s way of keeping our two species from interbreeding,” added Jacob, running a rough hand through his hair. “But that makes no sense. Female werebears can mate with human males just fine. There’s got to be another reason. And I’m going to find it.”

Her eyes narrowed in suspicion. “You’re not just a motorcycle mechanic are you?” Now it was Jacob’s turn to color, the red flush highlighting the slash of his cheekbones. “I qualified as a Biochemist.” He shrugged. “But I’m almost as good at fixing engines as my brother here,” he deflected her gasp of admiration, nodding towards Ty. “Although the true mechanical genius over there wouldn’t agree.”

Ty gave a derisive snort. “Stick to your test tubes and experiments brother, and leave the real men’s work to others.”

“How can you guys joke at a time like this?” she tightened the hold on her throw, wanting to slap them both again. “Ty could be ill. And you,” she spun on Jacob, “had no right not to warn me of the risk to him.”

He had the sense to look shamefaced as she railed against him, but it wasn’t a convincing display.

“Oh you’re both impossible!” cried Snow, after they countered her arguments with good natured reason from Jacob, and blunt disagreement from Ty. Jacob had valiantly tried explaining his theories of why And the fact that Ty would put his life at risk to make love to her, shocked her. Why her?

Eventually she’d run out of energy, and when she started to stagger, Jacob scooped her up and carried into her bedroom.

“You need to rest, my love.” He ordered, pulling the shutters closed on her windows, so that the room was plunged into darkness. Ty’s voice joined came from the doorway.

“We’ll be out here, keeping watch. Rest now. You’ll need your energy.”

“For what?” Snow asked mutinously.

Jacob leaned down and covered her mouth with his in a fierce, claiming kiss. He tangled his hands in her hair and drew her head back allowing him full access to her open mouth.

“For me.” He rasped, when they drew apart panting. “We’re not going anywhere, Snow.” He claimed her mouth again, no longer the gentle man she’d known earlier. Now it was his turn to let his werebear nature out, and she welcomed that with an open heart.

“You’re part of our pack now, with or without Dax’s approval.” He vowed, sliding his cock deeply into her, as the angry roar of a grizzly bear rang out through the night.
